Jan 5, 2011 12:04pm

ABC's John R. Parkinson reports:

Today's the big day. After a wave election that swept Republicans into the House majority last fall, the 112th Congress convened moments ago.

The money picture should come around 2PM, as outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi passes the gavel off to Speaker-designate John Boehner.

Later today beginning around 2:30PM after the events play out on the House floor, Speaker Boehner will host a ceremonial swearing-in for members in the Rayburn Room.

At 9:00 A.M. Members of Congress were invited to a bipartisan interfaith prayer service at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Capitol Hill.

At 10:00 A.M. Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer spoke at a mock swearing-in ceremony for members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Later today, around 4PM, the House will vote on the Rules package. Read about it HERE.

Here are the freshman stats:

**reports that there are 87 Freshmen Republicans are misleading – two GOP freshmen who were elected in Special Elections were seated during the lame duck of the 111th Congress**

Total House breakdown
