young_voter, this was exactly the same message Obama repeated when he made a guest appearance on “Myth Busters” (whose hosts are frequent visitors to the White House) and when he hosted the science fair in the State Dining Room back in October.
Its too bad Myth Busters won’t take up the Tea Party myth that scientists have created mice with human brains.
The strain of anti-intellectualism displayed by this sort has a long and ignoble tradition in America, including from the top in the cases of Spiro Agnew and GW Bush among others.
The existence (or lack thereof) of leadership on science and education from the President has an effect on our kids. As much as I often disagree with Obama, I have to heartily agree with him in this case. I am only sorry that he couldn’t rise to the level of lauding education and science for their own sake, and had to reduce them to engines of economic growth for his less enlightened audience.

Mr. Obama’s speech oozes out so much BS. For instance, he tells us to celebrate winning a science fair as much as we celebrate winning the Superbowl. But Mr. Obama has never spent 3 hours watching the science fair, the way he spent 3 hours watching the Bears game.

The speech may have had some jingoistic pro-America statements but it was flat and contradictory on the policy side. It was more of the same from this guy, voting “present” on the big issues.

Just a great speech, full of hope and uch-needed national unity:) Congratulations, Mr. President Obama.
It is kind of funny, or peculiar no nasty and angry conservatives from the GOP or the tea party did not send their nasty posts, hahahahahhahaha, anyhow,like President Obama said’
it is time to roll up our sleeves and work hard to create jobs and sellour products abroad :))))))to make our economy full recovery and do the gbest we can to help heal the world!
