oh I absolutely believe Jesus was ‘all about’ loving one another and caring for the poor and sick.
Except He didn’t say “Have thy government take care of the poor”. No, He said “YOU take care of the poor”
And He didn’t say “Have thy government take care of the sick”. No, He said “YOU take care of the sick”
See, you haven’t fulfilled your Christian duty to care for the poor just because your government passes out welfare checks. And you aren’t ok on your Christian duty to care for the sick just because your government has a ‘health care’ program of some kind or other.
No. Jesus’ commands are for YOU to do these things.
So, I’ll ask again since you dodged the question.
Are you saying that it is the function of government to fulfill the commands of Jesus? What happened to the separation of church and state?

I think a government should be interested in the welfare of its people, as that is how to maintain a healthy economy and businesses and thus a strong country. It is all connected.
As for a government protecting its people from those who would injure or harm them, physically or financially, that may be viewed as Christian or just plain common sense. Whether it is child labor laws, financial reform laws, minimum wage laws, etc., any government whether christian or not, should be protecting its people.

Tickle, tickle, tickle. Post Nov. 2010 midterms, President Obama has a lot of center-right chins to tickle to get re-elected in 2012.
Of course President Obama is a Christian. Always has been.
Those ‘investments’ he called for during the SOTUS are a few loaves and a couple fish. They will be broken in half over and over and over again until they result in millions of new private jobs, trillions of new economic activity, and billions in new federal tax revenue.
If that doesn’t work, everyone can go down to the nearest pond. The first fish you catch will have a gold coin in its mouth.
Sure, President Obama is a Christian. Of the Hans Christian Andersen type.
As for the left, you had your chins tickled back in 2008. That was supposed to be enough for you to reelect Obama in 2012 no matter what.

btw, are you saying that government should be used to fulfill the commands of Jesus?
I thought liberals were all about separation of church and state?
Even if you could make the case that Jesus “would be a liberal” (which you really can’t) , wouldn’t it be improper to base government policy on what you believe to be religious doctrine?
So then, what difference does it make if Jesus “would be a liberal” or not?
Are you wanting to merge church and state, Ms Liberal?

Really? Then you should be able to give us a few specific citations of Jesus’ words, right?
Specifically, which words of Jesus indicate that he would support the killing of a child in his mother’s womb?
Specifically, which words of Jesus indicate he would support (as Obama did) letting a child who was just born, (and is now outside the womb), die without medical care because he said that it was an “attack on abortion rights” to do otherwise?

PS – nearly all of the wars in Europe of the 1500′s and 1600′s were direct offshoots of the Protest-ant revolt of Luther in 1517. Over 150 years of wars and hundreds of thousands of deaths which were all about the lack of religious freedom and tolerance of the other guy’s choice.
Same as then, if we do not try to live in peace and harmony, then we cause our own strife.

PERSONAL choice means that my neighbor can choose to be a witch or a shaman or a rabbi and I have to be OK with any of those choices. But I can hang a cross obove my garage door – pointed right at their living room window – and they have to be OK with that, too. (Unless, of course, I chose to buy a house in an area with association/zoning that prohibits such displays).
We don’t live in a country that is aligned with a religion. Regardless whether the majority of our founding fathers were Christians or not.
Have we all forgotten, the Pilgrims had been run out of Holland and England for their religious views? Do you forget that one of our founding fathers rewrote the Gospels, which is altering God’s Word? This IS a country where all of their practices are tolerated.

Chino, I hate to disturb your view of things, but I am a Christian and a liberal. Most of my friends and family are, too.
When I read Jesus’ words, it seems to indicate that if He lived here now, He would choose to be a liberal. Think about how He wanted to help the poor and the sick and how he absolutely hated the idea of accumulating riches…it would be easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the Kingdom of God. He was all about helping one another, not an ‘everyman for himself’ attitude at all!

Don’t deride politicians that support freedom and Pro-Choice rather than Pro-Life. Instead, live a life that displays Pro-Life as the optimal choice. Show the woman with an unwanted pregnancy her better alternatives. Or move to a place governed by people who make the choice for you, like China.
