Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt and Mark Zuckerberg to Meet With President Obama Thursday in San Francisco

Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who recently took a medical leave of absence from his company, and Google chief executive Eric Schmidt will be among the attendees of President Obama's event with business leaders in San Francisco Thursday evening, a source familiar with the event tells ABC News.

Earlier today, ABC News reported that one attendee would be 26-year-old founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

Jobs has been the subject of tabloid rumors and rampant speculation about his health since announcing last month that was taking a medical leave for undisclosed reasons.

Schmidt on Tuesday told a conference he was "very, very proud" of Google executive Wael Ghonim, who helped organize the Egypt protests that resulted in President Mubarak leaving office.

Schmidt himself will step down in April as Google co-founder Larry Page becomes CEO.

Jobs, Schmidt and Zuckerberg will be among many business leaders in technology and innovation the president will sit down and talk to, as he continues to sell his State of the Union message.

“The president and the business leaders will discuss our shared goal of promoting American innovation, and discuss his commitment to new investments in research and development, education and clean energy,” a White House official said.

UPDATE: This post was updated after being told GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt will not be attending the meeting.

There was a message in the State of the Union ?
What was it ?
Or does Obama want to sell his $1.7 Trillion budget deficit and $15 Trillion national debt ?

There are many times in my life when I wonder why I am so mentally deficient.
I watch people making speeches on TV and I listen carefully to what they say, but all too often their use of high-school level english makes it too difficult for me to follow along.
I’ve had an even tougher time understanding basic arithmetic. Doesn’t two plus two equal five?
Once I paid several hundred dollars for the Brooklyn Bridge, and only found out that I was taken for a ride when I asked my neighbor’s eight-year old for help in reading and understanding the contract.

To meet with these type of people sound good and all, but I think Bobby if this message is about deficit & debt they are missing one important person…Bill Gates. Here is a guy that seek out 30 billionaires to donate half of there wealth to the Giving Pledge. Instead contributing a vast majority of that wealth into other countries; why not put it in all charities within the US. Its seems that the US Government is so worried about invading other countries and rebuilding them. Why not fix our debt here? I’m just say…!

Johnny, based on the guest list, this appears to be a California business event. No clue if he will be doing them in other states as I tend to be very California centric in the business news I follow. I try to support these companies and Adobe, Cisco, etc because they are based in California and our economy makes the US economy look good thanks to our own personal little rust belt (aka the Central Valley).
I also have no clue what Obama is selling because it seems to hurt us out here more than help us so I just tune out. I’m waiting for our own version of Egypt.

Posted by: Rachel | February 17, 2011, 12:45 am 12:45 am

Let me guess. Gates will start to whine about not having access to enough cheap, foreign labor and will ask Obama to increase the H-1B visa limit. Never mind that the program has been shown to be fraudulent and has led to our 10% unemployment rate, it’s what the “important” people want and not what is good for the American people.

How does an incompetent like Immelt end up in what should be such an important position…OH, thats right, he was appointed by the incompetent-in-chief.

Posted by: MichaelH | February 17, 2011, 9:09 am 9:09 am

Shocking, President Obama is surrounding himself with people who already publicly approve of his handling of the economy (primary because he has granted them exemptions from the policies hes enacting). If he had ever run anything in his life, he would understand the importance of not surrounding himself with “yes-men”. Nothing will change, let’s hope the country wakes up and realizes this is a farce.

Wow, I’d love to be a fly on the wall there! I’d love to meet each of these people in person and pick their brains. Thanks for the story and can’t wait to hear more later!

No good will come of this.
This is big business running the government. Apple/Jobs has been siphoning 30% of their developers rightful income just for the privilege of publishing on the apple platform. He’s putting developers out of business and hes going to advise how to run the economy?
Zuckerberg has made privacy a joke. Yeah, he’s going to write the new patriot act.
Schmidts the only wild card in all of this, and probably just because I don’t know enough about him.
These people are anti-society. A free and just societies government should be completely separate from big business and working for the people; not taking advice from big business.
Our government is so flawed.

Why won’t they broadcast such an important meeting with the heads of Apple, Google, and Facebook?
Why are these important people meeting with the President at a private residence with only the WH photogs on hand to snap a picture, while the regular press, yet again, will be denied access. Why do all these important meetings happen behind closed doors? Considering Google went under the radar screen, and planned and had a hand in toppling a government, I’m thinking their agenda needs to be explained in a public setting. Google and these other forms of social media need to be scrutinized in full view of the public. Too many things going on behind closed doors.

Corporate influence at the highest levels of government power? Rich CEOs trying to inflence policy and getting unfettered access to the President?
And here I thought Obama was bringing “Change.”
Oh well. Guess that only matters when the GOP is in power.

Those of you that imagine that an alliance between a left-wing president and mammoth corporations is somehow going to work out better than an alliance between a right-wing president and mammoth corporations …
Well, at a minimum you are sorely mistaken.
Alliances between gov’t and business entities almost never do anything than to corrupt both and disadvantage everybody else.
Look forward to more bad news — and expect everybody to feel surprised … again.

What do these three all have in common? They are all smarter and better qualified to be the President than the O’ Bozo they are meeting with. They are probably going to beg (or bribe) the annointed one to exempt them from Obamacare and all the destructive policies he advocates. San Francisco is one of the few places Obama still has any support.

Posted by: AFSGTSAM | February 17, 2011, 10:00 am 10:00 am

Whether you agree with the President or not overall, you have to admit that his honoring of the software and product technologists is important. He sets the tone and the style, and he came into the White House not wanting to give up his Blackberry while most of his election rivals thought he was not eating that fruit any more.
I wish that the techie passion would pour over into space exploration, but I’ll take what I can get.
And, by the way, even company CEO’s from non-techie companies like retail book sellers can take lessons on how innovation will keep your company in the game. Border’s management never got it, thought that marketing and finance would get them through the night, and all it did was get them INTO the night of bankrupcy.

I love how the right wing nuts jump on anything that Obama tries to do and left wing hippies hail the king for whatever he does. There is no such thing as objective thinking in this country. The prejudice and intolerance is fogging up peoples mind. It is so easy to blame everyone else…the government, the system, the corporations are all evil…and the people? oh, they are just poor angels, exploited by the evil left/right wing, the nutty liberal/right media, the greedy corporations and the list goes on. Get real!! Change needs to come from within you. Be tolerant towards the world, towards people of other race, other countries, other religion…be a human being first and then whatever you want to be American, Christian/Jew/Muslim,…
In this case, Obama is meeting some successful business leaders, give the president the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he is looking for ideas to make this country work as successful as their companies, maybe he is talking to them about not shipping so many jobs abroad and create more jobs here, and just for once, leave your negativity and political narrow mindedness behind. Or you can convince yourself that this black liberal non-American Muslim on a corporate payroll is out there to sell your soul and burn this country. The choice is yours.

What a bunch of wack-job, poorly-educated, too-much-time-on-their-hands conspiracy theorists.
Technology is revolutionizing every aspect of human life — health, community, business, education — you name it. These three companies represent the new paradigm for how innovation works in America. Google and Facebook have put their money where there mouth is with many charitable donations that help people, and Apple is used in many educational settings at discounted rates (both of my kids’ public schools have Apple computers).
The President is simply meeting with the next generation of business leaders, the same way Teddy Roosevelt met with Carnegie to help him navigate his institutional giving.

If you think you can do better, then get into government yourself and do it and stop complaining if he isn’t perfect. Are you perfect? He is a human being just like anyone else except that he has taken on a very difficult job. Would you do it?

Come on everybody. Obama did want to revolutionize america before he became president. He was naive now he has continued some things Bush has started and slowly become wiser. Although I would never vote for him. He doesn’t want America to end. He just wants the gov’t's hands in everything. To be honest I’m sure his work in the cyber world and as far as technology is concerned will help continue to be innovative.

Apple has a bite taken out on their logo apple, apparently celebrating the fall in the garden of Eden and Lucifer’s success (new age Gnosticism). Google appears to be storing info on everyone for future Big Brother reasons. Schmidt often travels to the bizarre occultic Burning Man hippie-like cult event each year with his gal-friend (but he stays in Reno for nicer rooms). Greedy Zuckerberg may be the most dangerous, esp. since he stole the idea for Facebook. If a Republican is elected in 2012 to save the nation, social sites may cause a riot/revolution much worse than Egypt. Mixing these guys with Obama is a Nazi-like nightmare in the making.

The rabble are out in force. The Beck-ers, the “America is bankrupt!” economic morons, all of them. Some of the racial nattering is repulsive. You all offer America nothing. These three men would be fascinating to talk to, wouldn’t they, for their vision of the country’s future?
We are working up a debt as we go on because the conservative movement finds it politically attractive to undo the New Deal. The theology of “small government” goes on. Method: lower the top tax rate massively, in fact, irresponsibly, guaranteeing that government income will not be big enough. Then, when a Republican administration has collapsed the economy and weakened the government, move in offering more of the same. Eventually, you’ll have the old people living on charity, and you will win, because of the theology of modern conservatism: they look back at the ‘liberty’ of the 1890s wave of monopolism and laissez-faire, and allow our corporations to run havoc, searching the best deal with the cheapest labor, not acting like American corporations in any way.
The New Deal put up barriers to exploitation. It led, eventually, to the most widely-shared, innovative and prosperous era in American history: the post-New Deal era. Conservative theory has managed to erode the American middle class, so we’re in a precipitous decline. Our businesses are international, with their allegiance to the bottom line: they give bonuses to the billionaires who run them and 40 bucks a week to the assembler, and no factory in America.

Google has been sitting at Obama’s table from the beginning. They share your information, your searches, your websites with the administration and are also vying to be part of his effort to control every individuals energy consumption by monitoring your house and giving the govt power to shut you down if you go over your energy ration. Look it up. Use alt search engines, dont download their apps.

Reminds me of the former Soviet Union right after it fell apart. Saw lots of collusion among government officials, the oligarchs of big business, and the mafia. The fact that Obama privately meets with leaders of major corporations is very troublesome. All communication of this sort should be open to the press. After all, who knows what they’re up to. Plus, the President reports to us not the other way around — or is this a dictatorship now. Will the oligarchs be giving major bucks to Obama’s re-election campaign in exchange for government contracts, which might include using technology to control or spy on the American people? Whatever happened to the transparency Obama promised? I suppose that promise became a lie like so many others (e.g., shovel-ready jobs, closing Gitmo, getting out of Afghanistan, regulating Wall St., cutting spending, ending lobbying, ending earmarks, etc., etc.). The problems of Main Street are the last thing on Obama’s mind — if actions still speak louder than lying words.

This is just another stupid PR move by the Pres to PRETEND he’s doing something….

This has NOTHING to do with trying to “fix” the economy or stimulate jobs/employment. This is just Obama trying to RAISE CASH for his re-election!! He is going to suck money from Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and UNIONS to continue his Socialist agenda. What a LOAD……

We are working up a debt as we go on because the conservative movement finds it politically attractive to undo the New Deal. The theology of “small government” goes on. Method: lower the top tax rate massively, in fact, irresponsibly.

I Say:
While I agree that the conservative fruit loops are out in force your views on the New Deal need some correction.
The Post New Deal you speak of ONLY occurred after WW2. Only after the vast majority of the world’s manufacturing capacity was destroyed.
For 5 years after we were the world economy, and for the next ten the majority.
There was a book published in ’59 or ’60, which I believe was entitled Poverty in America that was read by JFK and LBJ, which lead to the War on Poverty. This disputes the fact of a widely shared prosperity.
As to your first point, Social Security started as a trust fund as part of the New Deal. LBJ’s dirty little secret is that he took that Trust and spent it to pay for Vietnam. Every Administration since has spent every dollar of taxes including SS. They turned it into a pay as you go system, yet even with all that addition revenue they still cannot balance the budget. That is the reason for the call for less taxes and smaller government.
I Hope that cleared up some misconceptions you may have about things.

So, how many pinheads does it take to screw the economy, absent CON-gress?
I guess we’ll find out…with ObaMao and Immelt on the same team it can’t get any worse…can it?
Also, I would like take this opportunity to publicly thank all those Republicrats that voted for extending the Un-patriot Act and clearly violating their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution.
I also want to report all my neighbors to Janet because they sure are acting suspicious.
Now if you will all excuse me I have an appointment with the TSA for a massage.

Jim H: Read your history. It’s the New Deal that partially got us into the mess that we’re in today. You can’t continue to give out entitlements and make everyone else pay for them. That’s what the New Deal did. If you are fortunate enough to know anyone who lived through that time, ask them. They’ll tell you that the country was coming out of the depression and New Deal only reversed it.

Job summit?……maybe Obama’s own…..nothing more then political pandering for campaign dollars. Don’t get me wrong, they all do it, it just that this administration, which was to be so open and transparent for all to see, is possibly the most secretive, disingenuous, and lying group of scum we have seen in a long time. Spare me/us the propaganda Obama, call this what it is, a campaign suck up meeting.

This is what I was getting at in my earlier post. Our Government has taken in well over 10X as much in S.S. taxes as has been paid out yet every year we run massive budget deficits. Simply because of the New Deal. Of course it hasn’t helped that welfare went from being a safety net to Entitlements, or that Nixon signed into law COLA ( cost of living allowance ), which means all Government
expenditures grow each year without Congress needing to vote line by line for each increase. It all happens automatically without a vote!

So, Obama is talking about business? Right. He’s got his hands in their pockets, exchanging cash for perks. Their agenda?….how to screw America today?

God forbid the Big O meet with some citizens who aren’t rich and powerful just to see how things are joing for the average joe.
Then again, why not reach out to the big players controlling everyone’s information…that’s an effective way to control the herd.

If this group can’t win the future, no one can. All we need is an IPhone app that can create about 350000 jobs per month.

More than half of all jobs are created are by very small companies, yet Mr. Obama has no interest in meeting with anyone representing small and micro-sized businesses.
Yet those are the type of businesses that happen to be least poised to easily handle sudden change. And most likely to quickly feel the impacts of any increase in taxes, as well as by excessive govt regulation.
So why hasn’t Mr. Obama ever had substantive and in depth meetings, with the owners of of truly small businesses?
To answer my own question, it’s because Mr. Obama doesn’t want to hear an earful of the truth. And especially not from those who won’t sing any of his praises, or offer him hefty campaign contributions, or feign some nonsense about his supposed “personal charisma and charm”, that the sycophant media gushes about all the time.
Aside from that, Mr. Obama seems to believe he has no obligation to reach out or listen to any segment of the citizenry that are unlikely to have voted for him. And among all the reasons stated above, that’s perhaps the most insidious of them all.

Obama’s intent here is likely to do with Net Neutrality bill, which he wants to pass. If he doesn’t have these guys on his side there’s no way he could pull it off.
So that said, I wonder what he could possibly say to get them on his side? any ideas, anyone?

I wonder if Schmidt and Jobs will have a fist fight as representatives of iPhone and Android. Zuckerburg? He’ll just update his status.
Either that, or they will all kiss Obama’s butt. Obama is the control freak.

The reason that Obama will not meet with small business is because it is non-union. If the workers are not ‘union workers’ then he could care less.
All of his major programs have all be union central; saving the automakers, infrastructure overhaul (which utilizes union employees) and creating over 200,000 new federal employees; all union.
When is he going to realize that the rest of the country is being pummeled by his catering to this select few, and in the opinion of many, vastly over paid portion of our society?

Political parties and the President aren’t the problem. RELIGION is the problem. We need to get rid of religion to get rid of the problems. All of the world’s problems are caused by RELIGION. There’s just as much hate in christianity as there is islam, and it’s becoming sickening. The current political climate in the U.S. has been escalated by christians, just as the political climate in the middle east has been escalated by the muslims. It is sickening to watch creatures capable of such amazing intellect act as ignorant as dogs salivating at the ring of a bell.

Enjoyable read no doubt but There is only one way to correct the current financial trouble of the USA but it is too painful and no one wants to look at it. It is far too easy to keep passing the buck to the next office rather than admitting failure and starting the pains taking process of repairing.
1- Close the borders and REMOVE all ILLEGALS
2- Bring BACK OUR Companies and JOBS
3- Give tax Penalty instead of tax break to big corps that wish to produce goods off shore
Penalize those such as JP Morgan and the Buffets who feel the need to INVEST out of country rather than at home. Their trillions of dollars would certainly go far if invested at home.
The Free Trade Agreement has done nothing but destroy the American Middle class and now not only did we give all the jobs to their countries they still pour over the border creating more tax burden on an already beaten down economy.
