Many Americans watching the Grammy Awards last night were surprised by the win of Esperanza Spalding in the category of Best new Artist.
Not us. White House reporters have seen her talents three times since President Obama’s inauguration.
She performed at the White House when the Obamas honored Stevie Wonder for receiving the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song:
And she was back in May 2009 for the White House poetry jam:
She also performed in the December 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony:
Spalding also performed at a DNC reception in April 2010 in Miami, Florida.
“Isn’t she terrific?” the president said to the crowd. “I love listening to Esperanza, she is wonderful.”
She is. Congratulations, Esperanza!
