ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports:
The Obama family picked Shiloh Baptist Church in northwest Washington, DC as their place of worship this Easter. The historically black church is not too far from the White House.
Last year, the Obamas attended service at Allen Chapel AME in southeast, Washington, DC. The selection of that church was not insignificant. Days before the Obamas made their visit, the neighborhood was shaken by a drive-by shooting that took the lives of four teenagers. Back in 2009, the first family visited St. John’s Episcopal Church right across the street from the White House on Easter.
The first family has not picked a church since moving to Washington. The president has said he realizes that his family’s attendance is disruptive to services. George W. Bush also never formally joined a church.
The Obamas last attended church the Sunday before MLK Day back in January at Metropolitan AME.
