Shutdown Showdown: A Glimmer of Optimism?

Apr 6, 2011 8:05am

ABC News' Jonathan Karl reports:

After the contentious meeting at the White House yesterday where a government shutdown seemed all but unavoidable, both sides are now sounding more optimistic that it can still be avoided.

That's because a meeting late yesterday on Capitol Hill with Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid went considerably better. Aides to both men tell me the meeting was "productive."

Time is, of course, running out, but Reid and Boehner will continue meeting today — on the Hill (there are no plans, yet, to return to the White House).
