Dancing with the…First Lady? Michelle Obama dances The Running Man and The Dougie
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports:
It’s not every day that you see the First Lady of the United States doing “The Running Man” and “The Dougie.” But today, First Lady Michelle Obama well, busted a move.
While visiting the Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, DC Mrs. Obama watched students perform the dance routine choreographed by Beyonce for Mrs. Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign. The video, called a “Let's Move Flash Workout,” to Beyonce’s Move Your Body” aims to get kids moving, in an attempt to curb childhood obesity.
“Beyoncé is one of my favorite performers on the planet. And when she agreed to remake her video and do this "Let's Move" flash workout, I was so excited, because this is what we’ve been talking about — that exercise and moving can be fun,” Mrs. Obama said, “It’s about dancing, it’s about moving.”
The First Lady said she had not had time to learn the moves so “not to embarrass” herself she’d just watch from the sidelines as the students danced in front of her on the football field.
But once the music started Mrs. Obama couldn’t resist and she started mimicking the moves – including The Dougie, The Running Man, the Cha-Cha, and the Rumba among many other choreographed dance moves.
She called for a second playing of the song so she could join in, and she did so…rather animatedly the second time around.

This is awesome! I’m so happy that America is making an honest effort towards helping children here become more active.
Plus this Beyonce song, is awesome! The kids love it!

Amazing! Mrs. Obama is so incredibly real and full of energy. She’s such a wonderful role model–gotta love her!

How Ridiculous! If she is so interested in obese people why doesn’t she look at the processing plants that process meats, chickens, make lunch meat, chicken fingers etc. That is where the problems are. Ever look at what they put in chicken and pork? 12 -15% solution. That solution contains sodium and other junk. Seeing Michelle jumping around makes her look silly and not a FLOTUS. Also, where are all the boys. Was this a girls school or are they being discriminatory against boys?

It’s great having a FLOTUS girls and women of all ages – and color and ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds – can look up to. (I grew up with Nancy Reagan – not many girls could relate to her.) She looked to be genuinely having a good time, and I had fun watching her.

Love Her! Best first lady ever, indeed!
Posted by: Kelly | May 3, 2011, 8:50 pm 8:50 pm
This is great it shows she’s down to earth and an inspiration to kids to get moving. To plane Jane or whatever your name is..this isn’t ridiculous this generation of kids are sedentary and the processed food you speak of is not just served in the schools but in YOUR HOME where the foundation of good nutrition and healthy eating habits begins. So essentially with regard to diet the choice is yours… and did this problem start with her? No! so show some respect as much, and as much as I can see that it burns you that she IS the FLOTUS she deserves the same respect given to previous previous First Ladies more espescially for taking such an active role in this cause and not just sitting around kissing a baby here and there…

This First Lady is a brilliant and inspiring woman. To join in with this group of girls exclusively shows her care and understanding of affirming their specific culture and approach to exercise. Each gender and community does not have the same “in” toward health consciousness. With these girls, Beyonce is their connection. With another group of girls, or a group of boys, it will be a different connection. Michelle Obama is a queen for recognizing that there are a million ways to bring health success out of our kids. And bless her for being ACTIVE enough to try them all.
LOVE THIS WOMAN!

WILLET784 and Kelly – It is a shame that you cannot express appreciation for Michelle Obama’s many fantastic qualities without criticizing Laura Bush and Nancy Reagan. Each first lady has their own strengths and personalities. Each in their own way has made wonderful contributions to our country.

Ok, not a fan of the Obama’s but I was pretty impressed with this. I would like to see her comments on the homework for kids though. I am finding my 14 yr old daughter doesn’t have time to move because of her homework schedual. Any advise to combat that aspect would be much appriciated.

She makes me feel great about being an American, a woman, an exerciser. GO MICHELLE! Fantastic to have a First Lady who is actually a part of the American scene rather than apart from it.

Very good! I’ve read that several schoolteachers begin the day in the classroom with five minutes of music and dancing. It helps children transition to the school day/studies. We have hectic mornings, getting dressed, irritable parents and siblings, getting on the bus, etc… and the music/dancing helps get rid of the junk and clear the mind.

I don’t mind telling anyone that I am a fan of this First Lady. I think she is just great. I love seeing her out there moving with the kids. And doing a pretty good job too. I am not trying to put down any other First Lady. I’m not about that, people can like what ever First Lady they want and they can do that without trashing any other First Lady.

It is sooo sad that we have so many people full of hate in this world! The Obamas are hated no matter what they do! She is doing something positive, but we still have people hating her for that. What really saddens me is so many people who claim to be christians are hating on them worse than anyone else! She has to start somewhere and this is a great start. Thank you Mrs. First Lady Obama.

Haven’t been too impressed by Obama but my opinion is improving after this past week. It was neat watching the First Lady get into the dance moves with the students.
Posted by: Janice | May 5, 2011, 2:38 am 2:38 am
She looked silly. These kids need physical education brought back into the schools, not a Beyonce video.
Posted by: susan | May 5, 2011, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm
Yes Michelle is good looking and yes the music was great. Yes it is a wonderful idea for kids to get up and move and yes it made me move my feet! But why did the cameras focus primarily on Michelle Obama instead of the children? Her visit to this school to promote getting the children to get up and move was turned into a “look at me I have some moves” by the news media with a cameo endorsement of her silk blouse designers. I don’t care what she wears or who it is by and the majority of Americans also could care less. Just stick to the facts, show us the children dancing, cameo Michelle dancing, and tell us what the program is all about. If Michelle or Obama make speeches then let us watch them and allow us to form our own opinions. Don’t tell us what they said or what their words meant. We are intelligent enough to understand them for ourselves.

great, children learn by example and a good teacher, Michelle Obama was both and she doesn’t mind showing the children that exercising be a good dance, running, bowling, etc. to stay fit and still have fun. Love it, I am 72 and can still do James Brown.

Look… Michelle Obama is just what America needs. She has got it going on!! You know, she is totally cool and lady-like as she breaks it down. It’s just so affirming to see her. I showed the video to some of my students and they were totally enthralled and impressed by her moves. Yes, Mrs Obama demonstrates the breath of what being an American means. It is so refreshing and inspirational to young people. They connect with her and just be her being so relaxed and comfortable in her skin makes them realize that she is with it. Aretha may be the First Lady of Soul… but Mrs Obama, without apologies is the First Lady With Soul!! Let’s move y’all!!
