Former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton Issue Statements on Osama Bin Laden Death

ABC's Karen Travers and Z. Byron Wolf report:

Former presidents are weighing in on the killing of Osama bin Laden by American forces operating inside Pakistan.

Former President George W. Bush, whose entire presidency was defined by the September 11th attacks, said in a statement tonight that President Obama called him to inform him of the news of bin Laden’s death.

Bush called the operation a “momentous achievement” that “marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.”

“I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude,” the former president said in a statement. “The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.”

Former President Bill Clinton, who was in office for the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, also issued a written statement.

"I congratulate the President, the National Security team and the members of our armed forces on bringing Osama bin Laden to justice after more than a decade of murderous al-Qaida attacks," he said.

Great news. Buy, let’s not forget, Bill Clinton had two chances to kill Bin Laden and didn’t pull the trigger. Bin Laden was spotted by predator in the open with a group of people. One of the people there was a prince from another Arab country. Madeline Albright told Clinton not to launch an air strike since it might kill other people. DUH? So…Bin Laden went on to conduct more terrorist attacks, and 9/11. If these people were all around Bin Laden, they also deserved to be wacked because they obviously were friends, supporters, or sympathizers. Death to them all.

God Bless you GW for putting together the US Military and Foreign Relations Machine that allowed this to happen. If it had not been for you finally recognizing the threat and sticking to your guns through 8 years of constant Dem obstruction and calls for pulling out at every opportunity, including wonder boy Obama, this would have never happened. Sit back and have a cigar, you have earned it President Bush.

Its funny, Obama inherited Bushs recession, but somehow, Obama did this whole war on terror thing all on his own, even after campaigning against it, voting to defund, ect ect. Obama even said in his video, TODAY he authorized this mission, the real news is the mission was executed a WEEK AGO, that means Obama is a whole week out of the loop!
Thank You Prez Bush!

Looks like Obama was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, politically. The infrastructure that allowed for Bin Laden to be killed was put there by Bush years ago. Clinton should be credited for first realizing that Bin Laden was going to be a problem, and trying to take him out.

Posted by: Mike | May 2, 2011, 12:14 am 12:14 am

Giving credit to obama is like giving credit to the crowing rooster for the sun coming up. obama opposed the War on Terror, even outlawed that term from being used. it seeks to defund the very military and intelligence that truly is responsible for this victory.
Thank you George W. Bush, with whom I disagree on most things, but was genuine about protecting our nation. Thank you men and women of the military and of the intelligence agencies who risk their lives so that ignorant liberals can continue to have the freedom to spout off their foolishness.

There were soldiers that went in to get Osama bin Laden, maybe they were supposed to kill him maybe not. What is done is done. And in the off chance that I ever have the opportunity to meet one of those fine individuals: your next beer is on me!
I know this isn’t likely to be seen by the eyes of the people who went after Osama earlier today, but thank you.

Why are so many people leaving comments thanking George Bush? In case you’ve forgotten, George Bush had 8 years to bring Bin Laden to justice and failed to do so. In fact, not only did he fail, but he decided that taking down Saddam Hussein, who despite being a bad guy had not attacked the United States, warranted more effort than bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice. Barack Obama is the president now guys, and Osama Bin Laden was killed by the order of Barack Obama, not George Bush, so why don’t you put your one sided views on hold for a night and thank our current president for this extraordinary accomplishment?

How can any of you thank Obama? The first thing he wanted to do in his presidency was to pull the troops. He didn’t want us there and talked poorly of Bush for them being there. He had to be convinced to leave them there longer. He probably didn’t even know about the operation and had to be updated before he went on air. This was set up by Bush and the congratulations belong to Bush. Obama is a horrible president and this surely doesn’t give cause for a re-election. This is the only thing in his presidency that he can even talk about. He has failed at everything else. He is a failure. He won’t get my vote.

Yes it’s good news that Bin Laden has gotten his due. However, it leaves me wondering who will take his place. There will be no end to the war on terror, because there will be no end to the terror. I don’t think it matters who the president is. Do you really think we’re heading for utopia? I’m thinking commiunism is more likely. Sad but true. What are you all talking about? Bush had nothing to do with this, the CIA used credible intelligence and Obama was smart enough to wait till the time was right to execute the plan! Bush would have rushed in, screwed up again just like Tora Bora and then stood in front of a big mission accomplished sign while adding three new words to the English language such as plorificate while explaining how it was all the Dems fault that he screwed up again. Go Obama!

Posted by: Brad | May 2, 2011, 12:30 am 12:30 am

It wasn’t from lack of trying that Bush did not succeed in capturing and/or killing bin Laden. I have read that there were as many as 10 different attempts to kill him during Bush’s presidency. We came very close on numerous occasions, but always something went wrong. Bush began it, Obama gave the most recent order, and our brave soldiers carried it out. God bless America and our fighting military. Being that it’s the first thing that Obama has done right in this presidency, I don’t think he deserves to be re-elected. He has done more in more ways to harm America than the terrorists did on 9/11 killing our citizens. But this one thing, which was a BIG thing, well done Obama. Now strengthen our military against retaliation!

Understand that the location where Bin Laden was found is right outside Islamabad, in a city of nearly 100,000 people. It is a major hub for the Pakistani military – he was living in a freakin’ mansion, NOT a cave. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was similarly located in a major city in Pakistan that is a major hub of Pakistan’s ISI intelligence services. It’s a known fact that elements of Pakistan’s ISI and military were involved in 9/11. Now you know why GWB told the Pakistanis “you’re either with us, or you’re against us”, and why Bush officials told the Pakistanis “we will bomb you back to the stone age” if you don’t help us. That’s because significant elements of Pakistan’s military and intelligence were involved.

There seems to be a lot of comments claiming that Barack Obama attempted to scale back the war on terror. I love how people who clearly do not pay close attention to the news are so quick to chime in on a discussion like this. For those of you who are not aware of what US foreign policy has been over the last 3 years, Barack Obama INCREASED the number of troops in Afghanistan. He decreased the number of troops in Iraq, not Afghanistan. Under the Obama administration we have EXPANDED the war on terror by sending more troops to Afghanistan, a country that General Petraeus has repeatedly said is the central battleground of the war on terror. Please read a newspaper sometime before you start accusing the President of being soft on terror.

It is a good day, and the credit should go to the Military that got the job done. Those of you that would credit our current President with this are very short sighted. This White House wanted to remove our troups and promised to do so long before this happened. They also promised to close Gitmo and bring the Enemey Combatants to trial in N.Y. Keep believing in this White House and yen will be your in future.

Disgusting how Obama is politisizing this. “At My Direction blah blah” This guy is the worst yet the only reason his poll numbers arent around 15 percent is he is proped up by a willing media. Never hear anything now that he is prez about 5 dollar gas or 10 percent unemployement. If this were Bush, the media would be telling us how we must hate muslims for killing bin laden.

I trust people will now understand President Obama’s measured responses to serious matters. It is more than notion to go off half cocked when so much is at stake. It is unfortunate though, that there are those who would give credit to his predecessors, who were friends of the bin Laden family. But then, what can one expect from delusional Republicans. Can’t see the forest for the trees.
THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA!

Posted by: SierraBW | May 2, 2011, 12:44 am 12:44 am

What did Bush do to deserve thanks? He was the one who let Osama get away, and instead chose to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. It was Obama who actually went after the guy who was responsible for 9/11, and eventually killed him. Really, this is just more proof that Bush is a failed president, and Obama is much more effective at dealing with terrorism. Thank you, President Obama! Can’t wait to help re-elect you in 2012!

When President Bush left office, here are the economic numbers:
Unemployment: % 6.5
Gallon of Gas: $3.20
Average value of home in U.S.: $320K
After two and a half years of Obama-nomics:
Unemployment: % 8.8
Gallon of Gas: $4.40
Average value of home in U.S.: $260K
Obama called Bush’s economic numbers “RECESSION”
He’s calling his own numbers: “RECOVERY”
Go figure!
2012 will be about the economy…and ONLY THE ECONOMY.
Most people will forget about tonight’s announcement within a couple of weeks…then it’s back to:
“It’s The ECONOMY STUPID!” (Bill Clinton)

Posted by: Harold | May 2, 2011, 12:54 am 12:54 am

Obama wanted to run out of Afghanistan and Iraq which has now been known to harbor Bin Laden’s forces.
Obama wanted nothing to with Pakistan and guess where Osama was?
Once he became President he learned the truth that Bush had known. Why didn’t Obama stick to his “run and hide” plan he pitched as a candidate? He learned Bush was right.
I am no Bush fan by any means, but let’s be fair people! Obama did not kill Bin Laden any more than Bush did. Obama may have gave final approval to the operation, but if we followed what Candidate Obama wanted to do, we would never been in the position to carry it out.
Obama is a flake.

I also remember how the left and Dems have impeded this country at every turn in is fight against radical Islamic terrorists!
Oboma may attempt to take credit for this, but he did his best, prior to his election, to undermine President Bush’s efforts.
I think the American electorate is too smart to buy the Left’s spin on this one.

President Obama, along with our military, should be commended on a job well done. The reality of it is that any president would have authorized such an operation. To rush to the conclusion that Obama is a good president simply because he authorized this op is a bit foolish. To be completely honest, we still have a failing economy and an insurmountable debt and deficit, most of which was and is still being created by this president.

Those who “thank” Bush for a job he didn’t do are not only delusional to the nth degree, but, they are also forgetful.
Remember when Bush told reporters that bin Laden “wasn’t a priority”?
Clinton may have failed in his attempts to get bin Laden, but, at least he tried, then, was man enough to take responsibility for the failures, something no neocon has ever been man enough to do.

What a joke this is! I mean, I’m glad the guy isn’t a threat anymore, but I thought Osama died 8 years ago. This man sure knows how to turn up dead at the right time politically, doesn’t he? I think the solidarity between Bush, ,Clinton, and Obama further illustrates what a scam the “two-party system” is. Don’t even get me started on 9-11. What happened to all the liberals who protested the war and claimed 9-11 was an inside job? I remember protesting you with you guys when Bush was president, but you all disappeared after the glorious Obama came into power. Funny how that works. When will the drumbeat of “Blame Bush” start for the killing of this man that believes in a religion of peace – lol!

I am always amazed when the left and the right get together on occasions like this. Everyone wants their guy recognized so let’s give credit where it’s due.
Bush set up the intelligence and military apparatus to fight in Afghanistan and search for him. They were unsuccessful during his 8 year tenure
Obama won the election and those men and women continue searching and finally found him.
Thank you President Bush and President Obama for finally finding and dealing with Osama.
As for the left and the right, you guys need a CIVIL WAR once again to settle your differences if the left isn’t too passive or afraid. No country can stand when it’s people are as divided as this country’s people, that’s why people get divorce. Common sense has long sense been replaced in this country with “I want my side to win” at any cost to the country.

Good work, and my prayers are with our soldiers. Noticed friday, seven US soldiers, AF and USN, USMC, lost, said mideia should contact military authorities for more info. It was obvious they were Special Forces from the mix. What,s up? I feel smoke blowing up my skirt, and I dont even wear one. Still, good work, and God bless.

Not to take away from the good news, but it’s weird how some people are praising FORMER president Bush for a CIA operation that was approved and commanded by CURRENT President Obama. Bush tried for 7 years to capture/kill Osama bin Laden and bin Laden eluded capture. Bush failed: Mission Botched. God Bless America and President Obama who focused on the real threat to our country, used real intelligence, put the right people in place and got the job done. Mission (actually) Accomplished.

8 years to the day after “Mission Accomplished”, our Commander in Chief has issued the orders and accomplished a mission that others could only use as a fantasy photo op. In the face of absurd attacks on his legitimacy, not only as a President, but as an American, President Obama has shown, once again, that he is the right man for the job, can make the right decisions, and doesn’t need to be right wing to be right.

President Bush made the statement,
“I want justice. And there’s an old poster out West, I recall, that says, “Wanted: Dead or Alive”.
Referring to Osama Bin Ladin after the 9/11 attack.”
“Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.”

What did Obama do he just let Bush’s order stand. I’m sure if Pakistan had of cooperated we would have had him under Bush’s Watch. All Obama did was to say O.K finish the job. Now that that is done let’s see how he protects us against retaliation. Bush should have never had to ask our military to seek Osama! If Clinton had done the right thing 9/11 would not of happened.

Now, Kitty, don’t be daft. The people who say this is Bush’s doing do not have their heads stuck in the “sand.” I think we all know where their heads truly are.
As always, the president gets too much blame when military operations fail and too much credit when they succeed. I’d guess that both Bush and Obama had the pressure on to find Bin Laden. But to use this occasion to credit Bush to the exclusion of Obama is Orwellian at best and childish at worst.

Thank you President Reagan for re-funding the Military back in the 1980′s and allowing this to happen.
Also, I’d like to thank President George Washington for creating the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy (Without the creation of, we wouldn’t be celebrating this victory).
Oh, and also props should be sent out to President Abraham Lincoln (A Republican), for freeing the slaves… Which ultimately led to the election of an African-American to the Presidency of the United States, Who presided over the killing of a man whose name sounded a lot like….. his own.

President Bush you told us many times it was going to be a hard and difficult road, and you were correct! Those liberals that want to claim Obama had something to do with Osama’s death are diluted at best! GOD BLESS AMERICA and GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH!

Thanks to OUR MILITARY & INTEL who got the job done!!!! Pres Obama had the guts to pull the trigger UNLIKE bubba did on 2 occasions. Just think of the tens of thousands of lives that could have been saved & injuries prevented if bubba had done this when he had the chance.
As for BHO doing this TY even if it was as some are saying it was a ploy to boost your pop #’s like bubbas missile strikes when he was on trial for raping monica.
Maybe Trump will try to take credit for this saying it was because of his “pressure” that he finally gotUBL

Thanks to President Obama and our wonderful brave men and women who serve our country so proudly. Yes, I thanked our President. why? Because he helped bring Bin Laden down. Bush you started the mission but you also forgot about it. He concentrated more on Hussein than on Bin Laden thats why he was never succesful at catching him. So CHEERS TO OUR PRESIDENT AND MILITARY> JOB WELL DONE. For those who dont agree with me. Who cares.

OUTSTANDING JOB on the part of our Military and especially those warriors in the Special Forces! And THANKS to President Bush for planting the seeds of this “tree of freedom” from one more terrorist. And in an ‘unusual’ Presidential act, kudos to Obama for notifying the man ‘he blames for everything’ of the success of this long operation. Now everyone be extra watchful!

Now I’ve heard everything. People want to give Bush credit for this? After ignoring the message that Bin Laden was determined to attack the west a few weeks before 9/11? After flubbing Tora Bora? After leaving Afghanistan to fight in Iraq? With thought processes like this, it’s no wonder we are in crisis. Sheesh!

Most wars start because of perceived weakness. Osama attacked us on 9-11 because he thought that America was weak after watching Bill Clinton’s (non) reaction to his prior attacks. He thought Bush wouldn’t attack and come after him. He was wrong.

Posted by: Darren | May 2, 2011, 6:41 am 6:41 am

Seems awfully convenient to me. Why does this kind of thing not happen on Fridays or the weekend? Because most people do not watch news on the weekend. If you don’t think things like this aren’t carefully orchestrated you are only kidding yourselves. Gas prices up, unemployment up, Obama’s ratings down so let’s announce the death of Bin Laden! Sheeple abound.

Posted by: JD | May 2, 2011, 6:42 am 6:42 am

From Lew Rockwell:
Every time the US waves the bloody shirt of Osama, it has a purpose. Obama has been drastically weakened in recent months, and the US has been hurt by murdering Gadaffi’s family members. The mass-killing in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, etc. is not going well. The economy is a wreck. Dollar debasement is speeding up. Gasoline prices are high. So…tah-dah…the body of Osama bin Laden for our edification and distration. It may even be true. Certainly the CIA will assure us that its DNA test proves it.
UPDATE from Darien Sumner:
In re: Osama bin Laden’s death, here are the first three things that went through my mind:
1) Congratulations to the United States government on spending only ten years and a few trillion dollars to kill one old man.
2) This means we get all of our liberties back now, right? And our money? And the thousands of lives lost?
3) Ah, now the Libyan war is beginning to make a lot more sense from a political standpoint. The government needed a new bogeyman to chase.

Posted by: James | May 2, 2011, 6:44 am 6:44 am

This President should not take ant credit for this noteworthy accomplishement. He has no clue about military operations (or anything else, for that matter)! Give the ENTIRE credit to our Armed Forces…these are the brave men and women who put themselves in harm’s way for our freedom in this great country. Does OBL’s death mean decreased gasoline prices? I think not!

Posted by: S Estes | May 2, 2011, 6:54 am 6:54 am

Thank you President Bush. We sure do miss you. We also thank our brave men and women in uniform for their bravery. We are safer now, but liberal democrats and Obama will take all the credit. Maybe Obama will be on Oprah in a week or two to tell how he got
bin Laden, but everybody knows Bush put everything into place.

Posted by: justavoter | May 2, 2011, 7:10 am 7:10 am

After two years in office, President Obama gets credit for Bush’s catastrophic economic meltdown and socialist rescue strategy, and Bill Clinton gets blamed for the 9/11 attack after explicitly warning the Bush White House that an attack by bin Laden was imminent, but G. W. Bush gets credit for killing bin Laden two years after leaving office in disgrace and nine years after starting a war in Iraq under false pretenses and costing perhaps a million innocent lives. I suppose this makes perfect sense to the birthers, but…
This mysteriously ass-backwards birther logic is an embarrassment to America.

Posted by: Drake Jones | May 2, 2011, 7:11 am 7:11 am

Big deal. Our country is still collapsing from within, we lose more and more freedom everyday, and there are still people out there that think obama is the best thing since sliced bread, which is becoming VERY expensive, just like gas, and food and clothes. The same people congratulating obama are the same people who hate the military, hate the wars(as long as a dem didn’t start it, those ones are ok)what a bunch of fools, they are the enemy

Posted by: Ed | May 2, 2011, 7:11 am 7:11 am

Amazing that Obama found Osama on that golf course. Must have been right next to O.J.’s killer. What a laugh to give anybody but the U.S. Military any credit or thanks.

Posted by: oldFan | May 2, 2011, 7:12 am 7:12 am

Bush DID NOT Make this happen. BUSH diverted us to occupatin duty and “Nation” building. Had he stayed focused on why we went to war in first place we would have pursued Bin Laden into Pakistan long ago and killed him. Instead we squandered the lives of our brave men and women in occupation duty. So, NO BUSH had absolutely NOTHING to do with this. I hope current President will get our troops out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Liby and continue after Al Queda clandestinely with special forces which is more cost and operationally effective. I disagree with President Obama on many of his policies, but I applaud his courage in letting this operation go forward. It could have turned out bad and remember Clinton did not give the go ahead for two operations that could have killed Bin Laden long ago. This victory goes to our brave men and women in the military, and NOONE else!!! God bless them there are not any finer in the world.

I have become very synical when it comes to this topic.
They got him years ago – I am certain of it. Obama needs some points in the polls so he is taking them. Look for some resolve in the war on terror soon. He put Panetta in charge of the DoD. Panetta is the cost cutter for the democrats. Obama needed a big event to bring cause to the reduction of forces and a reduced DoD budget – both of which a growing number of people want to happen. As this show plays out, look for magical peace starting to form in the Middle East. Look for Obama’s poll numbers to go up. Look for the DoD budget to get slashed. Obama timed this absolutely perfectly – not too close to the next election, but close enough to start the needed work on reviving his image.
This scenario was talked about years ago with Bush – when the news was reporting the OBL was a goner. Conservatives concluded that Bush had more to clean up with terrorism and that OBL being dead would weaken the resolve to finish the work that had to be done. They further felt that if Bush did take advantage of it, we would never support Bush again (taking advantage of a crisis). Well, let us see what this week holds out. It can be played in a couple ways, OBL becomes the martyr Islam needed to raise a ruckus or this will die out soon. If they just killed OBL last night, then look for retaliation hits. If peace looks eminent, then I say OBL was toast a long time ago, and most likely because of illness – not a hit. Either way, the left will fall behind Obama with gusto – making him a hero.
Just like any cover-up OBL is already “buried” at sea in less than 24 hours! Right! There are also no pictures. Also, look to Wikileaks for some entertainment in the next few weeks. Obama does not play his cards well and if there are federal workers who hates Obama and who have access to key documents, I suspect Wikileaks either has or could get some fairly damming stuff soon. If Obama was going to play this card, he had to right now – his timing is perfect. But his hand may be weak. The federal workforce has far too much access and those in the DoD who have not been letting this crisis go to waste, may not be ready to let this cash cow go so soon. The defense contractors get almost $400 billion from us taxpayers (well over half of the operational budget of the DoD!) There are far too many people who have a big stake in this deception.
This could go either very well for Obama or it could put the final nails on his political coffin. At this point, the stakes have never been higher for this man. This was an all or nothing play.
My hopes are on the simple story and a big thanks to the troops who risked their live with this mission – but like I said, I have gotten to be synical with this corrupt government – I fear nothing is simple. Keep your eyes out.

Well, what do you know, waterboarding terrorists at Gitmo apparently worked quite well.
Thanks to President Bush and VP Cheney; who it turns out, were right after all, and thanks to Obama too, albeit being dragged kicking and screaming to follow what Bush originally set up.

Posted by: Kelvin | May 2, 2011, 7:27 am 7:27 am

George Bush and Barrack Obama both deserve praise in this achievement. Bush probably more because it was his fortitude that laid the foundation for this to happen. Obama deserves credit for having the stones to give the green light.
I wish this could have happened years ago. That monster has been able to eat and sleep and breath for the past 10 years. Now, he is sleeping with the fish!
I don’t really feel joy in the knowledge that a man lost his life but I feel joy in knowing that justice was served.

Great credit should go to our troops especially, President Bush, President Obama and all the people involved in finding Osama Bin Laden. This was a four year mission that came to great fruition, but we have a lot further to go.
The Pakistani government and military it looks like were likely protecting Bin Laden with his compound having 12 – 18 foot walls, barbed wire and extremely tight security and being built in 2005. If you protect the terrorists you are a terrorist and should be destroyed.

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

Fact: Bush’s strategy broke this case open when our Gitmo enhanced interrogation techniques caused KSM to give up intel on OBL’s most trusted courier four years ago. As our intel teams continued to search for the guy, they gradually got a bead on him, and it led to a huge, protected compound that had no phone or internet lines going into it…only the occasional visitor. None of this would have been possible without Bush’s strategy, and frankly without Rumfeld’s retooling of our military with a focus on terror hunting and ultra fast deployment. Kudos to Obama for continuing the hunt and Bush’s key policies.

I’m glad the SOB is dead and hopeful some closure is given to the families of the 9/11 victims. For them, I am happy this day came.
That being said, this country still has serious problems! For those of you thinking this gets Obama reelected, are kidding yourselves. A dead OBL does nothing for our wallets. And it certainly doesn’t help at the pumps. And it’s not going to be any better come November 2012. Hold on tight for a double dip recession, folks.
(AND…. keep reading people. The intelligence that caught OBL began 4 years ago at Gitmo. They interrogeated someone that led our intel to follow up on a courier close to OBL. Tactics used were approved by the Bush Admin..not the Obama Admin!)

Posted by: Mel | May 2, 2011, 8:26 am 8:26 am

Congrats. Don’t mess with USA. GW Bush should get the majority of thE credit as it was the detainees that helped to identify the courier 4 years ago and it was his aggressive strategy that pervailed. But this is a Bush victory … Remember obmama would have had the detainees in US federal courts and they would have said nothing!

Now, close your eyes, and tell me you can see bo hovering over a ‘war-room’ strategizing all the intricate variables that went in to pulling the raid off successfully.
First of all, any of the TRULY RESPONSIBLE parties would not feel COMPELLED to bring the ‘I’ or ‘MY’ into the statement’s first breath. A normal statement would have read… at worst … ‘WE…” … and more likely, “Our eternally vigilant special forces … ” or “Our resilient special forces..”. Hell, it took bo 4 months to decide on how many troops to turn loose on g.w. bush’s surge in Afgahani; and that was a tremendously less strategic-nuanced decision/mission.
The only war-room bo acquaints himself with is the campaign war-room !!
Credit for this successful military operation, needs to go to the TRULY repsonsible Lieutenant, Colonel or Major and all the special forces (participants and peripheral supporting members) who planned the operation and orchestrated, and implemented the mission, while KEEPING THE ENTIRE PLAN UNKOWN from the usurper-in-chief ! Rest assured, if bo truly had any forward knowledge of this mission, it would have been leaked, and bin laden would still be on the loose.
And for those Americans who feel a great weight has been lifted from America and our enemies have been greatly compromised, LOOK WITHIN !! An extension-cell of bin laden’s inner circle sits smugly in the oval office, figuring out how to return the holy remains of one of our nation’s most vile enemies to the muslim brotherhood for proper blessings, and worship !

All this turning into political support for Obama is inappropriate. The facts are as follows. The “hated, out of control” CIA along with information gained from GITMO prisoners, which Obama pledged to close BTW, allowed us to go into Pakistan just 60 miles from the capital city and kill him in a millions dollar mansion.
The left should learn two things form this. Firstly the world is a dangerous double dealing place and we need the CIA to do the dirty work of keeping our nation free and safe. Secondly Bush and Cheney were exactly right when the opened GITMO and signed on to rendition and enhanced interrogation programs.
Obama campaigned on exactly the opposite, yet he and and his supporters are claiming victory for him and the left. Wrong, it is a victory for the US, and Obama should but will not give Bush credit, he will use this CIA action as a campaign tool. That is sad, but typical.

It’s funny (but entirely expected) how Obama tries to take credit for Bin Laden’s demise (“at my direction” etc.), when if he had his way, we wouldn’t even be over there and this wouldn’t have happened. He opposed the war in the first place, opposed the surge in Iraq, and since his election has broken his promises to get out. So, should we give him credit for something that coincidently occurred on his watch? Nope.

It was actually reported that it was the enhanced interrogation tactics of Kahlid Sheik Mohammed that provided the name if the courier that eventually led them to Bin laden. Regardless of your political affiliation, give credit where credit is due!! Bush didn’t get anything accomplished while in office! OBAMA was the master-mind that directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al-Qaida, NOT BUSH!!!! One question.. If Bush had any part in it, why didn’t he give himself credit in the statement he made?? Only one president had the intelligence to get this done.. THANKS OBAMA!!YOU ROCK!! Statment from Bush—..“Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001. I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude. FLASHBACK TO 12/26/01: Report – Bin Laden Already Dead
STATEMENT: George W. Bush on Death of Usama Bin Laden
Filed under 911 Archives, Featured Stories, US News
(FOXNEWS) As reported by Bret Baier, below is the statement released tonight by Former President George W. Bush on news of the death of Usama Bin Laden by U.S. forces:
Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001. I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.
So the question is…whose body did they “bury at sea” if any at all?

The crucial intel to Osama’s location came during the water-boarding of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who wanted to plead guilty. But, Obama wanted to put him on trial in a NYC criminal court. Obama said the immoral practice of water-boarding produced no valuable intel. In fact, under constitutional law Obama would have to throw out any statement or intel Khalid Sheik Mohammed gave under the exclusionary rule as “fruit of the poison tree.” Now, Obama wants to take credit for Bush’s moral courage to stand his ground and protect his fellow countrymen from attacks from Obama. In fact, Obama had made thinly veiled trheats of prosecuting Bush for water-boarding Khalid Sheik Mohammed the one time it was used.

Posted by: pilgrimsjog | May 2, 2011, 10:33 am 10:33 am

From the AP:
“Based on statements given by U.S. detainees since the 9/11 attacks, they said, intelligence officials have long known that bin Laden trusted one al-Qaida courier in particular, and they believed he might be living with him in hiding.
Four years ago, the United States learned the man’s identity, which officials did not disclose, and then about two years later, they identified areas of Pakistan where he operated.”
During this time, then Senator Obama was bashing Bush over Gitmo and enchanced interrogations when it turns out it was exactly what was responsible for helping find Bin Laden.
While I do believe President Obama deserves some credit for the successful operation to bring Bin Laden to justice, we shoudl keep in mind that it was actually Bush’s policies and the work of our intelligence people and the great men and women of our military that made this possible and should be thanked for this accomplishment.

Bush was the one who claimed bin laden was no longer important. Bush was the one who let the trail go cold. Our military finally used the right small covert tactics that did not involve the Pakistan ISI to make a score.
There is limited trust in Pakistan and even less now that this Pakistan enbarrassment has come to light.
Also, Hammas has removed any support they might have gotten from people “on the fence”. Their support for bin laden the murderer of Muslums makes them look like fools.

If you’re really dumb enough to believe this news concoction, then you deserve anything you get. What a sad day for America.

From Bloomberg:
“U.S. intelligence picked up the trail that led to the house after tracking an al-Qaeda courier, officials said. Intelligence officers learned of the courier soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, identified him four years ago, and found he was living in the compound last August.”
And just who put the intelligence apperatus in place? Obama?
Who’s policies are inplace now regarding the war on terror? Obama’s?
Who’s key administration members (defense secretary, generals) are figting the war today? Obama’s?
Who setup a specialized military prison for holding and interrogating these thugs? Obama?
To his credit Obama DID give the order for the stricke but that is pretty much a no-brainer after all the heavy lifting was done by who? Obama?

Not really a fan of Obama, but I must admire the fact that he had the fortitude to do what Bill Clinton did not. The easy way out, of course, would have been to hit the compound with air strikes and hope you got bin Laden. He chose a much more decisive course. I also think it was gracious of Obama to call his presidential pedecessors to advise them personally. I’m sure that it’s a brotherhood that only those gentlemen understand.

Obama told the Navy seals to shoot over Osama’s head and read him his rights. But, the Navy seals either acted stupidly or their aim was off! Now Obama was a moral dilemma. Who should he apologize for yet anotehr act of American aggression!

Posted by: pilgrimsjog | May 2, 2011, 10:56 am 10:56 am

I bet Pres Obama really wanted Bin Laden captured so he could talk with him and apologize for the U.S. being evil and causing Bin Laden him to execute the 9/11 and other attacks, but his advisors told Obama that it would be better for his re-election campaign if Bin Laden were eliminated. Re-election is more important than anything else…..

President Bush had alot to do with it Brain. He is the one who sent us in to get the guy.As you know terrorists are sneaky. It is not a wonder that it took this long to get him.Obama had nothing to do with it.He just happened to be president at the time.It was the former presidents who initiated this attack.

Posted by: Elaine | May 2, 2011, 10:57 am 10:57 am

Obama ordered the Navy seals to keep their bullets in sacks until they saw Osama. Then, to load one bullet chamber and order Osama is return to the NYC to face trial. But, the Navy seals either acted stupidly. Or, got confused and loaded full clips. Then, their guns rammed while firing. This cause Obama to hide Osama’s body in the deep blue sea. There is no long form death certificate!

Also, congrats to a President who finally decided to not dither on international policy and get it right by letting our people do the job they were trained to do. Its the first thing you’ve done right on the international politics scene Obama but boy was it a biggie. Also, thanks for doing it now Obama. George Bush Sr. rolled into Kuwait and had 92% approval. How did all those young college radicals have time to get to the WH before Obama told the country Osama had been killed last week? The kids with signs cheering the death of a fellow traveler, Osama, looked like members of a staged, astroturf event for Obama, who murdered Osama.
Normally, those college kids would have signs saying Obama is a murderer and criminal.

Can’t we give credit to both administrations? It’s clear from reports that we have been following his courier for years, so it seems that President Bush had a hand in his capture as well as President Obama. To say President Obama did nothing is stupid. He authorized the strike, for God’s sake! That alone deserves our thanks!

All libs that are bashing Bush, please note: Obama has not changed any of the Bush Doctrine since assuming office. It was the policies that Bush put forth that lead to this day. Any thinking person knows this. And to show you that I am not being political, the same can be true of Reagan and the collpase of the Soviet Union. Reagan always gets credit for bringing the Soviet Union down, but in truth it was Nixon, Johnson, Ford and Carter before him whose dilligence, focus and containment lead to its collapse under Reagan. These evens are multi-year processes. Thanks to all our Presidents!! And also remember that NO presdient is above America. This is America’s day.

Maybe, just like for a brief time after 9/11, we can just all be Americans who stand united…quit taking sides on which president to thank based on your political beliefs. No matter which party the former, current, or future presidents affiliate with, the war on terror will need to continue for this country to be safe. Thank the presidents for being great commanders in chief and being vigilant against terror, but leave the politics out of it. We need to stand united as Americans in this war on terror and on all other issues. Let’s be Americans, not Democrats, Republicans, Indepentdents, etc. — We are the United States of America!!

Just a point on clarification, you are mistaken to have implied that Former President Clinton and Osama Bin Laden overlapped by way of the 1993 WTC bombing (it had no relation to Osama Bin Laden).
Former President Clinton’s administration experience with Osama Bin Laden occurred in August 7th, 1998 with the East African bombings of U.S. Embassies.

Or perhaps you can if you will elect him in his re-election. Then you too can be on winning side. You just have to put the past behind you. Easy, peasy. I am so angered by the partisan comments. Why isn’t possible to just take solace that we, as Americans, got it done. Way to go Navy Seals.
George Washington, in his farewell address warned us about the two party system: “It serves to distract the Public Councils, and enfeeble the Public Administration….agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one….against another….it opens the door to foreign influence and corruption…thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”
It’s evident that it is tearing us apart.

Remarkable how the GOP Bushbots are still ranting on. It’s a great day for America. Period. But they’re obsessed with pushing their message that 9/11 was somehow the fault of Clinton, and that Bush gets the credit for stopping Bin Laden. Even at a moment like this they’ve got to push their agenda. Ridiculous. Yet they’re always the ones to tell us they have a monopoly on patriotism. While I don’t feel this historic victory should be trivialized into which president deserves credit i do find it amusing that many thanked Bush and not Obama. It’s like giving an MVP trophy to the guy who sat on the bench for eight years and contributed much of nothing to the team’s success. It was a joint effort and yes America is a team, not black not white nor democrat or republican but one nation fighting for freedom.

Thank you Sarah Palin for your part in bring down Osama…
Oh sorry.

Congrats to President Bush on this Victory! Credit is due where Credit should be due. Obama should not take credit for this. If he does it is another disgrace to his position.

Posted by: Tom | May 2, 2011, 2:15 pm 2:15 pm

You want to give Bush credit for something Obama did, but not give the same credit to Bush for the crappy economy he handed to Obama? You people crack me up. Was Bush instrumental in this – of course and I respect him for that. Wish he would have been a little more relentless towards Bin laden and not so much towards Saddam.

Posted by: genhrules | May 2, 2011, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

How about we thank both Bush and Obama. I think they’d both be laughing about silly some of these posts are.

Thanks George W Bush, for standing strong against Terrorism, even as half of the United States berated you constantly, idiot Comedian’s who pretend to be News Anchors belittled you, as you constantly stayed strong and resolved to finish the fight. It was your leadership as President and the continual efforts and bravery of our military that made this happen. I just wish you could have still been in office to take the proper credit you deserve, but alas, Obama is trying to take all the credit…which is no surprise. So, I had to write this for the sake of truth and justice. God bless you!

we all as a country should thank all three of our last presidents for this victory today. we as a people do not know all of the details and they did their best to bring bin laden to justice. i thank them all.

Hummm…President Bush said on actionable intel for six-eight months and walla!! 9/11 happened and you morons are giving him the credit? Please! Sure…Mission Accomplished…that’s is something President Obama with the outstandnig job by the nation’s elite SEALs were able to accomplish in less than 2 years? That’s the difference between a level-headed President and a Cowboy…

Posted by: Eddie | May 2, 2011, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

Bush might have put the system in place, but his National Security Advisers were a bunch of losers…wasted 8 years and countless of military lives hunting him down…are you people blind? Republicans are a joke!

Thank you Bush, the VP and Haliburton for stealing millions of American Taxpayers money while our brave Men and Women busted their ass hunting Osama for 8 years…hummm something was done right by this administration…oh I got it…someone is actually working for the taxpayers in the White House…

Thank you President Bush for keeping our Country safe and not letting them attack us after 9-11. History will give you the honor and recognition you deserve, but until then my family and I thank you for being a GREAT PRESIDENT!!!

Posted by: Luis | May 2, 2011, 3:20 pm 3:20 pm

Let’s not forget that it was President Bush’s policies with respect to interrogation of captured terrorists to get the appropriate information needed to complete the task–something for which he was soundly criticized by Obama and the liberals. For Obama to try to capitalize on this makes him even more pathetic!

Our Blessings on you George W. Bush. It was your steadfast determination and attitude that got us to this point. Obambam would have run and peed himself if he had been in your shoes on 9/11. Obama loss 2012

Congratulation to Our President Barack Obama and to our United State Navy Seals for bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice. I just have one question, did George Bush get re-elected to the presidency last night and I didn’t know about it? Because all morning all I have seen is his face on the television making speeches as if he was instrument in making this happen. NO! Obama did in 2 years what George Bush couldn’t do in eight and our armed forces are the bravest to be able take on, and successfully complete this mission. THANK YOU UNITED STATE TROOPS FOR YOUR BRAVERY AND COMMITTMENT

Thank you Obama, Bush bs’d he left the dirty work to Obama but he did it anyway everyone was so worried on what he wasnt doing but hello if if was for him and their was another attack we’d be in a even bigger economic crisis Obama didnt let that happen!!!

It’s funny, no Republican will give Bush any ‘credit’ for the recession which started under his watch, but they give him credit for Obama catching Bin Laden, which he failed to do on his watch.. what am I not getting here?????

Posted by: paul s s | May 2, 2011, 4:45 pm 4:45 pm

Thank Obama that’s a joke, I would say it’s a ploy for reelection if we did even in fact get Osama Bin Laden I would like to see the proof
But like sheep every one believes it’s true

Posted by: Bella | May 2, 2011, 6:04 pm 6:04 pm

Obama snidely remarked, “And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al-Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network”—as if killing or capturing bin Laden was not also a top priority of the previous administration.
Perhaps if the Dems had allowed the Bush adminsitration to do a little more water-boarding we could have gotten bin Laden years earlier.

President Bush made this happen. If he hadn’t taken charge and made unpopular decisions then we’d be a lot worse off than we are today. It’s too bad he couldn’t have had a 3rd term – I miss having a leader that actually worked hard and tried to accomplish something. Thank goodness we have a very strong military who believes in our country and is willing to fight hard to keep us safe

Thank you President Obama for dedicating our focus back onto Bin Laden and off of Iraq, like you said you were going to do since 2007.
Thank you President Obama, for while doing this all, responding to the trivialities of the birther movement, and not allowing silly “scandal” to get in the way of the real objective.
Thank you President Bush for being so passive on the issue and allowing this to be executed by your opposition, yet another brass ring you failed to grab. Also thanks for deficit spending for weapons, and Iraq (which has cost us 3x as much as Afghanistan/hunting Bin Laden). NCLB really worked well too…but I hear Halliburton and Cheney made out alright.
To the guy talking about Christians, I am an atheist anti-capital punishment person and I celebrate the fall of an enemy combatant in battle, this particular one just happens to be huge for quite a few reasons, some personal and some not.

This all began in Clinton’s term, ended in Obama’s term, but GW was the man who put the pieces together to finally hunt for this guy. Whoever would be president at this time would follow the same advice of his intell and order the same hit. Who started the prison in Cuba for these criminals, and who wanted to close it during his campaign? Where did the intell come from?

I want to thank President Bush and his administration for his hard work and sticking to his guns regarding this war on terror, Clinton was a coward and did nothing, Obama is taking the bows for what Bush has done. He never even gave a nod of thanks for the work that Bush had done, I believe he even said Bush belonged in Jail. Love you GWB

just get our men an woman soldiers home and let them all in the other countries at war or whatever kill each other off. Not our problem. We have our own problems in our own back yard. Concentrate on that Mr president! And as far as Obama getting credit, BS!!! He was there at the right time thats all! Bring our families home and let the other country’s destroy themselves!

Glad GWB started the job.

I did not & would not vote for him, but cheers to Obama. He did promise in at least that 1 debate with McCain to kill OBL in Pakistan if necessary if the intel was good. It is a parallel universe to see Obama of all people keep a campaign promise. A good one, that is. Not the leftist garbage like no-DADT, Obamacare, etc. Oh well, hats off to him, for this one.

The mission was a success, so all the ppl now out of office (Bush, Rumsfeld, Condoleeza) all want credit. Had the mission gone bad, they’d all be blaming Obama personally! Amazing…

It takes a team for this country to rise and/or fall!!! The government, military & “we” the people collectively!!! I’ve never seen the government allow the media/public to disrespect ANY President the way they’ve done President Obama!!! I’m baffled by y’all commending Bush for bin Laden death!!! The only thing Bush can be credited for……. Is our economy being in such bad shape!!!! Some of the most “educated” people are the most ignorant!!!!

Posted by: Zavi | May 4, 2011, 7:57 pm 7:57 pm

@ Al in Social….. What makes you think President Obama needed help w/ his speech??? I don’t know if you’re implying that he “needs” help because he isn’t intelligent…… Every President has a team of help…. Bush is no exception…. But even w/ PR writing all his speeches….. He still wasn’t able to deliver & sound educated!!! Good Grief….. Have you ever listened to him give a speech. Bush is really dumber than a bag of rocks!!!!!!

Posted by: Zavi | May 4, 2011, 8:12 pm 8:12 pm

it seem to me that many of these people who commented suffer of dementia. Do they forget that during the last presidential election republican critized obama just because he has another way to deal with those people of middle east. And I remember that john mc. said you cannot sit at a table and discuss with your enemies like they are your friends. But the way Obama do things work perfectly in our favor. It proved that he is very smart and he is a very, very capable president. And I gave him all my credit for Osama Bin Lader dead.

THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THE US MILITARY. Bush said in several statments after he could not find OBL that he was not looking for him and he had not heard from him in a while. You see that is why we are being attacked because United States does not stand to gether.

we cannot praise one president for what these men and women did. oh, yeah they may have said go or not. to me, from what i hear it was because of the oil that kept that terrorist to be taken down until now. thousands of lives were taken. the presidents really don’t deserve credit. the generals and all them that got the job done deserve our praise and the men and women who made it happen.

Isn’t it nice you pols can agree that killing another pol merits congratulations. If you hadn’t made conditions right to create terrorism, your back slapping might have gone for something a bit less sanguine. You are no better than Bin Ladin, and your brutality has proven to be far greater. But go ahead, join the other revelers in kicking the dead horse. The riders may change places but the lash goes on. Mr. President Bush started the operation and the NAVY SEALS ended it. Not Obama! Obama did nothing but wait in a secret office! However there are still Al Quaida members out there so the fight is not over yet.

Obama KEPT the BUSH INTELLIGENCE team and still is, because Bush set up Homeland Security, which forced the FBI, CIA, NSA, and military intelligence to SHARE their info among each other rather than trying to be babies and say “It belongs to ME”! BUSH’S team caught him. Bush set up the SEALS. Obanma ONLY got up the GUTS, AFTER “SLEEPING ON IT ONE NIGHT”(on his wife, or to sallow Osama a last ditch effort to escape) to give the go order. THAT was the EXTENT of Obamas move! It was GW that REALLY GOT HIM, and the teams of intel and seals he set up!
