Gates, Clinton Advising President to Not Release OBL Photograph; Obama Increasingly Concerned No Good Would Come from It
President Obama is increasingly doubtful that there's a compelling reason to release a photograph of Osama bin Laden's corpse, ABC News has learned.
Having monitored media around the world, officials believe that there don't seem to be many credible skeptics of bin Laden's death in the Muslim world, with bin Laden's wife having survived the attack to identify bin Laden's death both to the Navy SEALs and Pakistani authorities.
Meanwhile, sources say, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are advising the president about concerns at the Pentagon and State Department that releasing a photograph could prompt a backlash against the US for killing bin Laden where one does not seem to currently exist.

Well, for one thing, in the Muslim world a Muslim woman’s testimony on its own isn’t enough to satisfy conspiracy theorists. But then, nothing is enough to satisfy conspiracy theorists.
But expecting the testimony of one of his wives is a vain hope.

Bingo. From a national security perspective that is, which is the proper perspective here.

I like Bin Laden to be killed. But I don’t believe he is dead until those pictures and videos are released. Why Obama & CIA want to hide evidences? The longer they try to hide, the more doubt I will have.

Yes many do believe he is dead, the problem is that many believe he has been dead for years of natural causes and not of a bullet to the head only a few days ago. If they have the photo(s) to prove they themselves did indeed kill him then they should show them. This is deja vu all over again, ya know? “Show us your birth certificate” has taken years for him to finally do it. Are we going to have to beg for three years to get the photo of Osama now? You’d think the president would have learned his lesson.
Posted by: monkey | May 4, 2011, 7:35 am 7:35 am
The whole thing was fishy from the start. But I agree it won’t do any good, because the Muslims don’t trust anything from America anyway, especially given the too convenient “funeral at sea”. Nothing short of the body at a viewing by selected Muslim clerics would have sufficed.

Posted by: youcantbeserious | May 4, 2011, 7:37 am 7:37 am
The photograph is not going to be the main issue. bin Laden is dead. The more salient and pressing issue is going to be the contradiction in the story, and whether bin Laden was shot without resistance, His daughter and other eyewitnesses are providing conflicting stories to Pakistani intelligence and we do not have access to those family member eye wirinesses who were take in custody by our military. In addition, the version that the situation room and President Obama did not see the actual event seems curious. What happened to the video stream? These are the questions that will persist, and if the world thinks bin Laden was simply murdered rather that “killed in action” then Americas great triumph will be sullied.
Posted by: pauldia | May 4, 2011, 7:37 am 7:37 am
I don’t see one compelling reason to show these photos. If the peoples of the rest of the world want to believe OBL is still alive, is there any harm? On the other side of the coin, I suspect that showing it could unnecessary inflame many, which can’t have any good coming to us.

Yeah, I also didn’t understand why Obama wanted to release the photo in the first place. Specifically, (1) why does it matter if Bin Laden supporters don’t believe the news? (2) Even if there were a photo, shouldn’t we expect them to call us liars? (3) Even if they didn’t call us liars, shouldn’t we expect retaliation?

Not so sure why we have to be so sensitive about this and towards muslims. Really you think if the shoe was on the other foot they would not be in the streets cheering and passing out photos while they kick and pulled apart the body on a street? Show the photo!
Posted by: nowaytoday | May 4, 2011, 7:41 am 7:41 am
It’s a fairy tale until they provide proof. Tim Osman has died several times in the past 9+ years, each time without proof, but for some reason this time around we’re supposed to believe it without proof? If people still have that much blind faith in the American government, then they truly have been given over to a strong delusion.

Come on. His freakin’ wife was there. Conspiracy theorists are really wrecking the nature of truth. If there is a picture, it’s “Photoshopped”. If there’s a video, it’s a double of Osama, or an outright plastic dummy. I wish they had their own little Internet so they could all stay at home like teenagers and talk day and night about the connection to UFOs and Kennedy, Elvis and the Loch Ness Monster, and whatever else is an entire waste of time. Proof = No Proof. It’s a no win situation.

Enough of this political correctness. Nobody who died on 9/11 was buried in a dignified manner according to their religious tradition. The world watched people jumping from the 100th floor of the WTC because they felt they had no other choice. They should release all the pictures as to show what happens when you kill innocent Americans.

And once more American leadership is afraid we might hurt some ones feelings by proving to the world and the American people that their American tax dollars have brought another infidel to meet his “god”. Show the damn photos! Prove to us you, the present administration, isn’t lying to us again!

The only ones – so far that I’ve seen from doing a quick google – who are rioting are Arabs in Jerusalem. Don’t know if releasing the photo would cause more anger or not; but it would certainly do away with the skepticism that many people have.

Frankly, Obama should have even released the photo when he announced that Bin Ladin was supposedly killed. That’s what happened when Saddam’s sons were killed.

I’m so tired of being lied to by our gangster government. If they told us the sky was blue, I would absolutely look for myself to make sure.
Everyone else in the world except most Americans knows that Bin Laden didn’t have anything to do with 911. Our government needs to explain why there are unmistakable traces of military-grade THERMATE in the WTC dust. Unless we bring to justice the politician/criminals who arranged for those towers & building 7 to be brought down via controlled demolition and covered up, the next “false flag” terror perpetrated by them will be nuclear on some unsuspecting American city.
I mourn for our fallen Republic and the sheep who will deserve the title of “Worst Generation.”

Post the pictures already.

As military member, with several tours in support of OIF/OEF and an understanding of the Muslim world, the negatives outweigh the positives concerning the photo being shown. We still have troops in harms way, just like being in Baghdad when Abu Graib photos were leaked. Unnecessary risk for us in the military.

As an overseas American, I’d be scared to death if a photo of ObL was released to the general public. The world needs to see the “gravitas” of the bin Laden photos, hole in head, and before and after being fed to the sharks.
How ironic, that the same Bush-Cheney tactics that were so mercilessly blasted by Obama and his democrat comrades, turned out to have provided the information necessary for Obama to order the military hit on Osama.
Obama, Clinton and Gates are out of their pointy pin heads. Nice to see that Obama took time off the links to watch the hit.

If he was alive and free, he would not hesitate to make another video to embarrass the President of the United States.
Al-Qaeda are a smart bunch, they’re trying to goad the United States Government into giving them a recruiting tool. If they had that photo, they could slap whatever story they wanted alongside it.
I don’t need to see a photograph of a bloody corpse. I’m not interested in seeing it either. I’m sure it’s horrible, regardless of how evil the man may be. If the US military says he’s dead, and he’s unable to prove otherwise himself, that’s good enough for me.
If they’ve secretly taken him into custody and are extracting intelligence from him, even better.
If he died long ago of natural causes, well, he’s still dead and that’s what matters.
I don’t want these photos to be publically released. I agree with the WH, nothing good would come of it.

They are elected and paid by the American tax payers. Who gives a rat’s a$$ about what the Muslims think? If they are the religion of peace and do not mean to harm non-Muslims, they should be glad that the whack job OBL is dead and they will not retaliate – this is a chance for them to prove it.
Posted by: VERITASEEQUITAS | May 4, 2011, 8:03 am 8:03 am
Its the ninth time OBL is pronounced dead. Naturally you should provide evidence that independent third party’s can verify. They conveniently already dumped the body at sea (which was AGAINST muslim tradition) so that no one can take a closer look at it. What if he died allot earlier (which is what the evidence atm points toward) and this is all a farce to boost Obama’s approval ratings?
The fact is tho, a government that has been caught lying over and over and over again, is telling you “trust us”. I don’t understand how people all over the world still believe what their governments are telling them without even questioning.

Not releasing these photos and the film of burial at sea will only spur distrust and skepticism. That’s just great, cause more conspiracy theories, and distrust in the government by hiding more information from the people even when they feel they need it, and THEY PAY THESE GOVERNMENT WAGES AND FOR THE WARS.
The various differences in stories is what leads people to conspiracy “theories”. Whether they are true or “theories”, many cases have yet to be proven to the people either way. For instance, here we are told that the only pictures of Osama Bin Laden are gory, the best being with a gash across both eyes, yet another story, that he was shot above the left eye and in the chest. So, we have two different stories, yet we also have the story that the Navy seals had cams on their helmets. Navy Seals don’t shoot out into the dark. Osama Bin Laden would be on film, without being shot yet, in the films from the shooters (Navy Seal) cam. The “theories” are justified when the people know they are being lied to by government and media. I still want to know why our Presidents want New World Order for us, yet will not explain how this is good when the New World Order wants to reduce world population to 500 Million. Full and complete truth would be so nice about now.
The helmet cams have to have clean pictures too, let’s see them.
Posted by: Tess | May 4, 2011, 8:06 am 8:06 am
The question isn’t so much is he gone or not but to a degree; when was he gone and how? Did he die in a special ops raid last week as the White House claims or did he die some time ago, as has been claimed before, in one of the missile attacks aimed at getting him that left no remains allowing the most corrupt administration in a century to make a claim and stop the plummeting approval ratings of a failed “President” who operates more like a dictator. Navy Seals who will never be able to speak of the alleged operation, a hasty burial at sea so no body to produce and now no release of photos – how very, very convenient?
Since it has become abundantly clear that Barack Obama and his administration lie like most most people breath, with ease and regularity, I’m going to assume that either there was no operation at all and either bin Laden is still alive or he was killed some time ago and this is just another of their false claims to legitimize a failed administration… until I see convincing proof otherwise.

If I remember correctly OBL’s radical rebels didn’t mind making an in process video beheadings of our Americans and releasing them on the internet. The picture of OBL with a bullet to the head isn’t any worse than seeing one of our own screaming until the knife pierces the Trachea and the blood coming from internal jugular veins and arteries.
If the enemy gets incensed over the picture then it is good because just maybe it will bring them out from hiding behind their own women and children.

Ok, think about this people.
At first OBL’s wife is used as a human shield and killed in the operation. Now we learn she was only shot in the leg and is the ONLY reliable witness to the fact OBL was killed. Remarkably convenient now that the death photo won’t be shown.
Then we learn that the Seals and Pakistan are the only ones who have heard her testify that OBL was killed. Again, no objective third parties.
And of course, the body is dumped at sea (because no country wanted him). How about THIS country?
I’m sorry but this whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Publication is not neccesary as some people would still doubt if Osama is really dead. We all know America is the land of conspiracy-theories and that will just go on and on, since people have nothing better to do.

I don’t really need to see it. I believe Washington. Plus, isn’t it in Al ‘Quedas interest to refute these claims? If this were all a lie, wouldn’t they want to expose it? Not to mention if he is indeed alive they are in exclusive control of that evidence. Show or don’t show, I don’t care.

What a bunch of ghouls we have here, wanting to see a photo of a dead person. Releasing the photo will do absolutely no good. Most of you will claim its a fake anyway. I could care less if Muslims are offended. Possibly the first time I’ve ever agreed with Obama on anything. Releasing the photo will accomplish nothing.

Cowards. It’s ok for us to watch thousands of our citizens get murdered on 9/11–inspirational video for terrorists around the world–but we can’t see one photo of our dead enemy?
Posted by: Rxse7en | May 4, 2011, 8:13 am 8:13 am
NO! No need to release any photos, operation logistics, nothing. It’s over. I don’t care ‘how’ it happened; if interested, wait for the movie!!
And nothing has really changed has it!? If the doubting Thomas’ don’t believe it, who cares!? I don’t care what they think, why should you? NO. Its time now to get out of Afgan, totally; get rid of Ka-daffy (for those who ask why – he killed Americans just like Bin Laden); bring our troops home from ‘rich countries protecting them from no one’ B. Anything to distract from the high unemployment, the high gas prices, the high cost of food.
When Obama has the answer in his back pocket he is going to milk it. What would Alinisky do? I think he’s following rule 1. I guess the picture isn’t too dramatic enough. I’m sure a Navy Seals beheading Bin Ladin story is going to make the rounds first.

I can’t believe that some of you are such COWARDS.
You fear these muslim pigs.
What you fail to understand is that if they get mad, they get careless. We can kill a whole bunch of muslim terrorists.
Another point for you cowards to consider. What did we do to provoke 9/11? Nothing. These pigs attack whether we stir the nest or not.
By all means though. If you think that maybe a bouquet of flowers and a hug while singing Kumbya will stop their desire to kill us – please feel free to prove me completely wrong. Go over there with your tie dye and flowers, peace sign and hugs.

Don’t release the photo Mr. President, it’s not going to convince anybody that is not convinced already, and people want to see it out of some strange morbid curiosity that doesn’t need to be satisfied.

WH wasn’t worried about a backlash when it forced the military to normalize same-sex behavior, or when Obama bowed to the Saudi king, or when Administration leaders called the Tea Party every vile name in the book, or when the vast majority of people opposed nationalization of healthcare, or when Obama signed an order allowing U.S. tax money to be spent overseas for abortions, or when millions of voters send a message last November. But let a few imams make threats and well, then, be very concerned about backlash. No there’s a game plan: display fear in the face of your enemy and hammer your own people. WTH?

President BUSH is the person responsible for getting bin laden….BUSH, did all the work.obama should take absolutely NO credit at all.By obama NOT releasing PICTURES, he is YET AGAIN..ignoring HIS BOSS,We the People. obama likes to “feel important” by withholding information from the American People, which shows his immaturity, and arrogance. He seems to THINK he is a one-man government.obama will be history in 2012, if not sooner..obama will NOT be re-elected!

SOLUTION: Invite all interested nations to send a representative, on a specific day, to view the photos of a dead Bin Laden. No cameras, and one time only. Then, archive them.
Done, finished.

Why release a photo? Stupid idea. The fanatics will wear the picture over their bomb vests when they detonaite themselves at your childs school. Yes they are that crazy.
You people are just stupid no one needs to see this miserable persons death photo. Bush is a coward for refusing to go to NY with Obama. Is he afraid of what the documents say that Seals collected.
I don’t give a d#m about the feelings of Muslin fantics. Don’t give them a picture to venerate while they blow themselves up . They are crying in Pakistan over the death of this creature that incited theses crazed fantics.
President Obama should now resign the Roman International Criminal Court so the rest of these animals will be hunted down that caused the thousand of our men killed.

First, I’m glad OBL is dead and that the last thing he saw was an American with a gun….but the irony of this all is the folks that told us waterboarding terrorists was torture and un-American – and that Bush should be put in jail for war crimes – authorized a kill of an unarmed man in his bedroom – shot in the chest – then they put a bullet through his brain.

Those who are determined to hate this country already do…and they already DID, long before OBL died. The “picture” is not going to sway any fence-sitters!!
There was no problem showing the actual hanging of Saddam. Why now the sudden discretion in providing proof of death of the most elusive fugitive in the world?!! Don’t get me wrong, I believe he is dead, it just makes no sense!

Obama’s admin probably got word that Bin Ladin died in his sleep surrounded by loved ones. So they know Bin Ladin wouldn’t turn up again and staged this, to give the illusion that Obama had balls to enter Pakistan and kill Bin Ladin. Pakistan gave the okay, and said ‘we’ll make you look like a tough guy before the G20 meeting, just give us a helicopter in return’.

I am against the idea of releasing the photos. The white house should keep the photo and make money off it by charging individuals who want to see these photos. It will help out with the economy. Besides, people who want to see the photos are people who doubt about the death of Bin Laden anyway. I am sure they are the same crowd who doubt about our President’s birth certificate in the first place. Mr. President, do not post the photos. Use those photos and make money with it from people like Donald Trump.

No one has the right to see the photo of a dead person except the next of kin if they want to. No one has the right of see photos of a military operation. In my opinion, I would rather error on the side of being too civilized about the death of an enemy than to glorify his death with photographs of his dead body. Release the pictures in 10-20 years for historical purposes and when his death is no longer an issue. If Americans don’t want to believe their military and government officials of both parties and all important positions of this operation, then those doubters have the problem, not the American government. The only exception would be if there really are family members of victims of 9/11 that won’t believe it unless they see the photos, then arrange a private showing of the photos can be arranged.

According to the reports, Bin Laden was captured alive and then killed. This means they had options on how things would play out.
With an operation so meticulously planned and with so much distrust of the government (wmd scandal, etc.), I fail to understand why all of this *apparently* was not considered.

For a short period of time immediately after word came out about the killing of Osama bin Laden, I was, as always, grateful for our military and even felt Obama did the right thing and finally did what was good for our country. But now a couple days later, reality sets in and we are now back to the self centered, politically driven agenda that is setting a course of disaster.Bush was right when he said we’d hunt bin Laden until he was found, no matter how long it took. Unfortunately, I guess down deep, we all knew this administration doesn’t have the leadership skills (or balls) to tackle the problem head on.

I think that this is a big Conspiracy I am not one for thinking like this but honestly.
America says hes dead. Release a photo which was 3+ years old.
Says he used a woman shield his wife who was shot dead. Then later said that his wife was not there.
Then it says that he was armed and now he is unarmed.
Now to be honest if Barak in the whitehouse watched it how could u get that information wrong when he later quoted that he used a woman.
They then dump his body in the sea and distroy his house. And any evidence relating to it.
Common you Patrotic americans can you not see your govt is pulling the wool over your eyes.
If you believe this then your inteligence must be re-assed. As the rest of the world thinks its fake.

If they can show JFK getting his brains blown out by a radical Marxist every other day on the History channel then there should be zero qualms about showing this zealots photo.
We want proof with the photographs, the raid video (the one that shows Hillary all aghast)and numerous independent tests on the DNA that was taken.
No one option will do, as Americans we demand the proof.

Posted by: MadCharles | May 4, 2011, 8:46 am 8:46 am
The reason people will doubt that bin Laden was really killed without seeing the photo is that this President has lied about so many things that many, many people don’t believe anything this Administration says. I believe bin Laden was killed, but I absolutely understand why many good Americans have doubts. This President, by refusing to release for over two years the most basic document, his birth certificate, that any American would be expected to produce for a variety of purposes, has created the most opaque Administration in American history. And such opacity breeds distrust. I would have no doubt that bin Laden were killed if it had occurred under GW Bush. Regardless of what you thought of his policies, Bush was open and transparent. He didn’t lie repeatedly on so many issues, as Obama has done blatantly from everything about promising not to have lobbyists in his Administration, and then hiring hundreds of them, to not signing a budget bill with earmarks, and then signing one with thousands of them, to saying he would close Guantanamo which he (thankfully) did not do. So the only person to blame for people doubting whether bin Laden was really killed is Barack Obama.

NYGUY30 | May 4, 2011 8:38:00 AM – So you want to see the pictures because you think the President is lying? Wrong! Asking someone to believe a habitual liar like Obama is like asking the fat kid to guard the pies at summer camp. If independent nations were able to send people to examine the body and they all agreed I wouldn’t need a picture. If the body wasn’t dumped into the sea after an hour and we got to see that I wouldn’t need a picture. Asking me to take this anti-American’s word on it, oh just trust us… it’s not going to happen. I don’t understand how Americans can take the what goes around comes around approach to this matter. If you would like to google the death tolls in the last 10 years you’ll see we have killed probably 20 times more people than we have lost. The fake Bin Laden death photo that surfaced Sunday, immediately after the military operation, was a photoshopped fake done by the CIA which was floated out to the public through indirect means to see if people would believe it. This would have become the ‘official’ photo, until a Twitter user realized it was a superposition of two pre-existing photos. The morphed photo was never before seen, meaning it was created explicitly for this purpose. The military operation was supposedly top secret, so nobody else in the public would have had the knowlede or inclination to create this fake. It came from inside the government.
A news story released yesterday indicated that not even President Obama or Leon Panetta were privy to the video of the military operation. Nobody actually saw the operation unfold, not even Obama. The situation team room learned of the result after waiting 25 minutes for the outcome. The ‘body’ was then dumped into the ocean a few hours later.
This is absolutely absurd. The most wanted terrorist in the WORLD, and not even the US President has actually seen real time proof he was killed? As for the rest of the public, we are not allowed to see official photos of the body? We paid for them! Worse yet, they dump the body in the ocean! Are you kidding me with this? Were supposed to believe his ‘wife’ identified him? Huh???? His wife?! A woman none of us has ever heard from, and who hasn’t event been connected to the actual event or military operation? No photos of her either.
NOBODY I know believes this garbage so far. I voted for Obama and Biden. I think they are being duped by the CIA and the military too.

Release the photo. Americans want to see his dead, lifeless, bullet ridden face. Not because we doubt his death but because it is deeply satisfying.
The ONLY concern is the sensitivity of all true Americans. The sensitivities of the Middle East BE DAMNED.

The American People paid billions of dollars for the capture or killing of this terrorist. And the Obama led government ponders if “we the people” should be allowed to see them? Ha!
Also, if the Obama led, government decision has anything to do with Muslim sensitivity they are on the wrong side of the equation considering the 2012 elections. Muslims won’t be the swing voters responsible for Obama’s reelection, Americans will be. I will tell you this; many Americans do not appreciate being treated as children, especially when we are paying the bills.

Typical for the liberal leadership in Washington. The damn terrorists are going to try and hit us again whether they show the photo or not of dead idiot. Show some balls and release the photo for public viewing so we can tackle the issues at hand which are job creation, high fuel costs, the economy and figuring out how to get Obama out of office in 2012.

Many of the same folks who are now claiming the death of OBL and refusing to release the photos because it might “enflame” the Islamists and “endanger” our troops are the same folks who were screaming for Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld to release the photos of Abu Ghraib. The same press that skewered Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld for doing so are now “…meh…” about the “death squad” teams and photos from Afghanistan and now OBL’s pics. So much for the “most transparent” White House ever. Incompetent, intellectually dishonest BOOBS enabled by a fawning press corps. RELEASE THE PHOTOS.

You’ve got to be kidding me. At the most politically convenient time, you suddenly say you killed Osama Bin Laden, but got rid of his body immediately. Then, you won’t even release pictures at the very least. This is absurd. It’s common sense to question this. You don’t have to be an “extremist” to see that something is wrong here.
Posted by: John | May 4, 2011, 8:55 am 8:55 am
From another report:
“Muslim clerics are predicting revenge attacks against American targets because of the way the government decided to dispose of the leader’s body.”
If it’s not one thing, it’s another. How can the people at the highest level not understand that there is no “good” option here?
Release the photos and forestall any controversy! Nobody should hold our people accountable for retaliatory actions – that is on the conscience of the individual Muslims. Common sense.

Give the Muslin fantics a picture to venerate for years to come of their hero. Why? Makes no sense. I don’t need a picture. I wouldn’t give them any thing but the flushing of my toilet.
There will always be right wing fantics with their religious frenze and conspriatory theroist they are as nuts as the fantics that followed Bin Laden.

Thank Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld for “rendition”, “secret CIA prisons” and “enhanced interrogation techniques” that developed the info leading to OBL’s death. The same folks who were SO against “torture” are now benefitting from the fruits of that labor under a different administration and characteristically, suddenly “forget” about the source of info because it helps them politically. Hypocrits.

Really?? Like showing a photo is somehow more likely to incite them than KILLING HIM? You don’t think you owe it to the American people- on SO many levels- to give SOME sort of proof? No body- no photo-.. details that change by the hour. Why was it again that our military didn’t shoot down those planes before they hit the towers? Who will our next boogey-man be?
Posted by: sistaelle | May 4, 2011, 8:56 am 8:56 am
Let me settle this: My tax dollars paid for this operation. I want to the return on my investment in our military and this war. Show all photos and/or video. Muslim terrorists want to kill us no matter what. Nothing we do or don’t do will change that.

They posted pictures of Usay and Kusay, Saddam, the 4 contractors on the bridge, GITMO, Abu Ghraib and all kinds of gruesome war dead. Now we can’t see a dead Osama! We tax payers spent hundreds of billions of US $ and the country lost the lives of Amercica’s best and we will cower to muslim sensitivities. Release the pics or see your polls drop further Mr. President!

Unless there’s a big surprise coming, I’m hoping that Team Obama didn’t orchestrate this OBL assassination as a part of Re-election 2012. This is a disaster! Ideally, Team Obama would have produced a snuff-film that only would be broadcast closed-circuit to military personnel ONLY. Subsequently, a low-quality video and conspiracy theories would circulate around the web: SEALs capture OBL; fly him to an aircraft carrier (off the coast of Manhattan); keep him on his knees on the deck for hours; POTUS lands on deck of carrier via Marine One, disembarks copter, and walks toward OBL; SEAL captain locks & loads a Glock and places it into POTUS’s hand; Jr. SEAL removes a black bag from OBL’s head, (close-up) OBL’s face, (wideshot) OBL on knees, BHO standing behind OBL with Statue of Liberty in background; (close-up) OBL’s face as large bullet enters back of OBL’s head and exits front of head taking out facial components. NO ONE would believe the authenticity of the video, NO ONE would ever see that OBL again, and NO ONE would ever know what happened to OBL (like Jimmy Hoffa). In this scenario, BHO would have it all: dead OBL, inspired troops, plausible deniability, and re-election in 2012.

I think that it’s time that we stop being controlled by the sensitivities of terrorists and bullying terrorist organizations. I don’t care if they’re inflamed or have gas, or a bad hair day.
The only people who should be ‘inflamed’ by this are people who support bin Laden’s cause.
It’s time to stop cowering to bullies. People who would have no problem putting Bush or Obama’s head in a basket if they got the chance, and who have literally done this to other human beings all over the globe, and we’re worried if they’re ‘upset’?
It’s ridiculous. Show the picture to our enemies what can happen if you attack the US. We’re dealing with a medival mindset, speak to them in a language that they understand because verbal logic escapes them.
And if you are ‘upset’ at looking at a dead body, don’t look at it. You have a choice not to. Don’t fantasize about some inherent humanity about the guy because he has proven over these many years that he has none. He was a sociopath and a mass murderer. I don’t care if he liked puppies or gave candy to children. As my dh said this am, ‘but he’s a NICE mass murderer’.
Cut the crap. He abdicated his humanity and pleading that we grant him the ultimate respect in death falls on my deaf ears. He has earned none.
Show the picture. Stop cowering. Stop being afraid. They will try to attack us whether we do this or not. Nothing has changed in that area.

I’ve got to agree with Baroness Voldemort (a/k/a Hillary) on this one. In the digital age Releasing a photograph does nothing to quell conspiracy theorists and serves only to satisfy morbid curiosity. But unfortunately for the Bamster, it’s already been promised by his PR squad and so a change of mind will appear vacillating. Obama badly needs a new PR team.

why does releasing a photo matter? The next comment after releasing it will be that it was photoshopped. and there is a lot of questions in the arabic and muslim communities whether or not the killing actually took place and not just among extremist, so you can stop trying to lie to the public about that Clinton. Either way, the only thing that changes at this point is there will be more fear of reprisals, more freedoms taken away in the name of security. We are all heading on a one way trip to all out nuclear war anyways.

Should anyone be surprised?

Hmm, so many doubting Thomas’s out there, who can’t believe without seeing. For those on the right, who “love” our military. Do you think the Navy SEAL’s would lie? Do you think that Bush, Cheney, Condolezza Rice, Don Rumsfield, and RUSH LIMBAUGH would congratulate Obama if it were not true? Bush even wrote, his biggest regret was not getting Bin Laden. I doubt that even if Bin Laden were marched down Pennsylvania avenue, that you would really believe it was him. Besides, if it were all “planned” wouldn’t it have been better for Obama to wait till say late next summer?, and then ride the wave of jubilation into November. I bet you are the same people who need to go to ground zero to see that the twin towers are no longer there.

Speak for yourself. I live in Denmark and I can assure you that not giving the world any real proof of OBL’s death will cause a major backlash for the US government in public opinion internationally (as well as domestically, I presume). It has nothing to do with right wing fanatism. My own political stance is center/left and I share most of Obama’s political views. But that does not mean that I should trust everything he says. I do not do that with anybody, especially not on something this important. Your problem seems to be that you confuse faith with politics and think that unless you trust everything your leader says, you are not really supporting him. But by doing that you become complicit in whatever mistakes he makes. And he will make mistakes, everybody does. A real supporter sounds the alarm when his leader is about to make a mistake. That is what you should be doing right now.

The first night it was announced, the news said they had killed him a week ago and sat on the information until the ID could be confirmed. Now they say they just dumped the body yesterday, but only 24 hours after they killed him. So which is it? 2 days ago or a week ago?

So this is the question: Wouldn’t binLaden have been better off for us being captured alive?
It seems to me that this was either a botched mission, or a near totally contrived story. If he wasn’t armed, why kill him? If we did shot an obviously unarmed man our troops should be held to no more or less a degree to the “rules of engagement” than any other person, and if found to be guilty, punished. You either sink to their level or bring them up to ours. The former means they win.
They have changed their story so many times that I wouldn’t know which story to believe. First he was armed and fighting, next he’s hiding behind women, then he’s not, and now he’s unarmed. So which is it?
Why aren’t we seeing any interviews with the soldiers involved with this now seeming act of murder? One would think they’d be national hero’s and the administration would be in a hurry to have ticker-tape parades in their honor. (Good for the war effort, you know.) So, where are they?
Where’s the body? Are we too presume that after seeing thousands of shots of Saddam in his underwear that our government gives a fat-crap about binLaden’s “dignity.” Or that they are hiding all and any evidence out of respect for the Muslim religion, or fear of reprisals? Who believes this?

“Americans want to see his dead, lifeless, bullet ridden face. Not because we doubt his death but because it is deeply satisfying.” Geez, what a sick puppy you are! Then again, reading all the other hateful comments on here about bin Laden and Obama, there are lots more sick puppies out there as well. But what should one expect from all these, I’m sure, good “Christian” folks. Like the Pharisees, they think they can live a life by rules and they’re going to “heaven”. And as long as they have God on their “side” and hate what “he” hates, they’re fine with it. Whatta bunch of schmucks…

Why not show a film of the corpse, including the chest wound – but show only the face, not the forehead, if the wound is too gruesome. Bin Laden was a tall man so a film of his body will prove something.
Posted by: Chancy Gardner | May 4, 2011, 9:02 am 9:02 am
I would really like to see the photo, too. And initially I thought it would be necessary. But these days a photo is not really concrete evidence because of so many computerized tricks available, especially to the CIA. Those who want real proof would likely remain unconvinced. So, in spite of my personal morbid curiosity, I side with Gates and Clinton. Do not release the photo.

Dr. Pieczenik is calling this a total hoax and naming names as to who was really behind 9/11. You won’t hear this on the MSM propaganda outlets.
So desperate are the criminals in our government and the flunkies in the so-called “established news agencies,” that their lies are now beyond the pale and insiders within our government are coming forth blowing the whistle on the insane criminals we have in control of our country and that this has to stop!

The only thing that the public needs to know, is they are safe. I don’t trust obama too, but I do trust our intel community. The admin. needs to realize that releasing these photos WILL NOT make it worse, as the terrorist are going to kill as many americans as they can… they need to you use a real excuse…not everything can be made public…there is a reason this operation was considered “COVERT” or “Black out.” Let’s find the rest of the chain of command and finish it. Photos can come when it’s over, until then keep them locked. But personally, I would love to see them just for my own satisfaction… but I with my career experience, I will have to wait.

It’s unbelievable that our military has been in total control of Pakistan’s military for years, and the fact that we’ve had intelligence all over Pakistan that they too would not also not know.
It’s unbelievable that with numerous reports of binLaden’s death that he would suddenly surface when it’s politically advantageous for a failing president.
It’s unbelievable that after our State Dept has made such a show of parading Saddam and his sons after their deaths that they would decide to instead bury binLaden’s body at sea, because “they respect the Muslim religion.”
It’s unbelievable how they keep changing the story.

Osama is captured right before re-election campaigns begin even though we searched for 10 years. His body cannot be shown because it could be inflammatory even though we occupied their countries for 10 years. We’ve given up more money and freedom with this President and the last one than ever before. If money is power then BANKS call the shots. If more money and power is the goal then why not “Stay the course”. Make’s sense to me, and 5 year olds.

Ffej | May 4, 2011 8:56:11 AM – So you are saying the key information for this operation was from the “enhanced interrogation” in 2002-2003. If that is true, then that means the Bush administration was incompetent not to be able to get him for 5 years and Obama was able to resolve it in 2 years. That makes no sense because Bush, Cheney, military and intelligence all wanted to get him as soon as possible. Just because some of the information can be traced back to 2002-2003 does not mean that was the only source for that information or that it was the most critical pieces of information to catch bin Laden.

It would appear since the old Boston Tea Party America getting a Republic seams now that many people dont like it. They like the Independance sure but their presidents lie no one person should have that much power.
Perhaps come back to the UK Ownership you can become devolved and have a slightly less curroupt Govt lead you. Sure your Federal Reserve is all in Canary Warf Anyway.

When your popularity is in the toilet along with the economy, a man like the president might just think,”what can I do about this?” And then the old refrain may come to mind ” what the people need is a way to make them smile ” and what better way than to go out and get the master blaster? Then anything might happen. I am bothered by the timing, the lack of a real photo and most of all by the burial at sea.Didnt we want to know about his kidneys? This is not conspiracy thinking just conjecture.

~ Bulletin Flash:
Washington. D.C. 7 August 1945
President Harry S. Truman announced today that aftermath photos showing the destruction of Hiroshima, Japan will not be released to the American public. It has been determined by the president and government officials that the viewing of such images is of no value and may in fact anger and upset the Imperial Japanese warlords along with other fascist militarist thugs.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter . . .
Now shut up and pay your taxes.

You know…the American public needs to stop being so gullible. So far the only thing we know about this situation is what is coming out of our government. Notice they have not offered any sort of proof, just words. Don’t be sheep. Question things. I’d love to believe my country is above such things, but frankly I don’t think that is the case.

Release the photos you cowards! Give us our pound of flesh! I don’t give a flying **** what the muzzies think. I don’t care how bent they get, this is wa r!
On 911 my heart was filled with hatr ed, and my mouth was filled with ven om towards these animals. I swore i would never forgive them and i won’t! Towards that oath i force myself on every 9/11 to watch the footage of the towers falling again, again and again. To steel my heart, to heat my blood and to prevent me from ever forgetting.
No Mr President, you need to release those photos. It’s not enough to know we got UBL. Some of us need to see his lifeless body laying on the dusty ground with his head blown apart. Give us our vengeance! And not for the sake of morbidity, but to take a step towards inner peace.

What is the big deal about not releasing the photo. That is what the world needs to assure that he is dead. Or is he? We see worse pics in the movies, internet and TV. IF is he really dead (and we all know that politicians lie) then show the pictures. We are big girls and boys and we can handle it.

I laugh at all of you fools and your stupid conspiracy theories. I see no need to release the photo. As Secretary Gates and Clinton have already stated the extremist are not going to believe Bin Laden is dead regardless of a photo. If you believe the President is lying about the death of OBL, then you would also have to believe the Navy Seals are lying, and you have the believe OBL wife is lying. No wonder they call you all the lunatic fringe.

BALONEY! I am a taxpayer, my county was attacked on 9/11, I have a right to see the pictures. But here’s the problem — there are NO pictures. That’s the whole point. This thing is a charade. So instead of actual proof, they now say, “just believe his wife, she identified him”. A woman none of us ever knew existed, and who none of us have yet to see, is supposed to be the one and only source of proof we have of his death? This is worse than a joke.

I don’t necessarily need to see the picture, but I laugh at our concerns for Muslim sensitivities. Where were their concerns for Christian sensitivities when they murdered Daniel Pearl and posted the video? Give me a break.

If Obama was not going to show the photos to the world to prove Osama was dead, why did he put all those Navy SEALS at risk to take Osama out? I thought killing him in a verifiable way was the whole point of putting American lives at stake? Otherwise, why not just send a Predator or cruise missle in to destroy the whole compound? Or didn’t the President think about this in advance? The Administration says they have been planning this for months – why all this deliberation now?

Listen, it’s a given that the decision to make this raid a go was not based on Obama’s act of gutsy, field general instincts but was an act of desperation.
He was desperate for something that the American people would view as an awesome achievement across the board.
He ordered a HIGHLY dangerous mission with a high probability of Osama being in that compound without eyes on verification.
You rolled the dice and used our top of the line troops in pulling off this mission, Kudo’s, we got lucky in that the Paks didn’t attack our boys and we got away clean, plus we supposedly killed Bin Laden.
None of that happened without verification and that verification needs to be shown to the American public and then the world.I’m interested in the American people, not Obama or Hillary or Bush or Cheney.I want iron clad proof.
And I don’t think this current administration realizes it or just doesn’t care but WE DON’T TRUST THEM.
So be good little public servants and serve us.

Come on … the American people deserve to see this photo! If it’s too graphic, people can choose not to look. We saw death photos of Sadam Hussein and two of his sons. And why should Osama’s followers take offense … they do these kind of things, and worse, to their own people! And let’s face it, the media and their speculation about everything negative only add to the tension regarding the situation. Show us and this will be over for the American people after a short time. For the terrorists, it will never be over. They hate us with or without photographic proof of Osama’s death!

Fedup said, “This Country’s libs are pathetic!! No insensitive photos were shown BEFORE 9/11 and look what happened!”
It’s not about ‘liberals’. I voted for Obama and Biden in 2008, and I plan to vote for them again in 2012. The reason they are not releasing the photos isn’t because of ‘muslim sensitivities’. It’s because they don’t actually HAVE photos. This whole thing is a charade.
Do you know that neither Obama nor Panetta, the CIA director, actually saw live video of the raid? A news story reported yesterday the screens went blank during the 25 minutes of the raid. Obama could be getting duped along with the rest of us. The only ‘agency’ who has access to all of the information is the US military, and they are the ones that dumped whatever body they had in their possession into the ocean. The only ‘photo’ that has surfaced so far was a complete fake that was the superposition of two previously existing images. The fake photo had never been seen before, and it surfaced about an hour after the military operation, meaning someone IN the government produced it. It was floated out to the public in my opinion to determine if anyone would believe it. A resourceful Twitter user proved it was a fake by finding the two original source images that were morphed together.
I think Obama needs to demand that the CIA and the military release all pertinent data, video, and pictures on this operation. The public requires and deserves PROOF that the most feared terrorist, the one the government kept warning us about year after year, is dead.

He cost us our freedoms in many ways (see DHS handbook). He made children orphans. He made women widows. He made men widowers. He created havoc. He was an insanely evil man. He was violet beyond all human belief. Does any of the above facts disturb the “sensitivities” of anyone involved or observing his well deserved quick, clean death.

Excuse me Mr. Government Official but not ‘only extremists’ are asking questions.
Your typical tax-paying patriotic American citizen is asking for confirmation.
The taxpayer funded the multi billion dollar manhunts and operations. We demand to see evidence of the death.
It was too suspicious his body was immediately disposed of at sea, no video confirmation, no image confirmation. Just the word of liars (politicians and government). Do not expect we accept the word of liars.
Show us the evidence. I do believe Osama is dead but I want confirmation that things happened the way the government is claiming.
This man has been public enemy number 1 for decades, much hype was assigned to him from our own media and government. Now you won’t even provide closure for the American people?
Perhaps we should ignore this distraction then and refocus our efforts onto the birth certificate.

The entire National Security Council doesn’t huddle in the White House Situation room at night, then later announce to the world Osama bin Laden is dead just for giggles. Duh. Half the people who read Tapper are Drudge-ites (i.e., morons). There is no compelling reason to release the photos. Dude is clearly dead — unless of course you read Drudge and are a nutjob who still thinks the moon landing never happened.

The confusion in communication is sad and disheartening, but what is more disheartening is the continual bitter partisan bickering, which is so evident here. A house divided can not stand and this division just pleases our foes the most. I am no fan of Obama nor foolish speculative reactionaries; now is not the time for rancor, it’s time to shut up and wait to see what happens next. I am a father of a son who is in the US Army and he could be redeployed at any time to any hot zone. So, shut your flippant mouths and just be thankful one evil person is gone, but recognize that his collaborators are just as bad or worse. Please get on your knees and ask God for mercy on the USA.

Bin Laden died several years ago. This isn’t about risking reputation. They knew he was dead already. This is about proving to the public he’s dead, for whatever reason, and this whole thing stinks to high heaven. You don’t go just dumping the most wanted terrorist into the ocean an hour after you kill him. This whole thing is ridiculous, and now that they are not releasing the photos or videos, this is even less believable. But I predicted yesterday they would not release them, because quite frankly I don’t believe they have them, and very few people that I’ve seen from comments around the Internet believe they have the photos either.

The government is not like a person or private organization. It doesn’t just decide when and when not to allow access to information concerning its business. The First Amendment and the Freedom of Information Act guarantee public access to these photos. This is a government by the People for the People, not by Obama for what he thinks is good for us, and the People have a right to see all information about the government’s operations so that they can govern themselves intelligently. “Muslim sensitivities” are not one of the limited exceptions to the Freedom of Information Act, any more than if religious followers of the Waco cult demanded that photographs not be released of the raid on their compound. The government is not run to appease religious zealot’s policies. It’s run to serve the people. There’s another clause in the 1st Amendment about that.

We shouldn’t be bated into these propaganda exchanges with these criminals. So far Obama has done a great job around this issue, I hope they continue to think before being manipulated by this shrewd enemy. They understand their audience and know this will only be in their favor.

Okay, first off most of these comments are just plain stupid. People do not understand that if a picture is released then there will be trouble for the USA. We already know about “code orange” and stuff, and another attack on the USA will be horrible. I say, if he is dead, then leave it alone. I see these people cheering, and happy that he is dead but now you are doing the same thing that Al-Qaeda does cheer, and laugh after the killing of another human being. You are showing them, what they wanted the whole world to see, that the USA is nothing but people that does not care about life. We as Americans should not cheer his death, instead we need to think about those that are overseas, and problems that we have here in the USA. If you believe in Jesus, and you are cheering Osama’s death then you are giving him power of Jesus. Simply, because we celebrate Jesus’s death, and now people will start, and has started celebrating Osama’s death. If you want to look at it like that then please do so.

What would it be like for you to find out some iddiot, that wanted revenge after looking at OBL’S picture, killed that millitary person. Was it worth it then? Osama is dead, that all we need to know. Drider – Citizens do not have the right to see photos of a military operation. It is primarily the decision of the military, the intelligence agencies, and the administration as to whether information is released. There is not much harm in showing a close up of the head with a bullet hole through it, but it is still up to them to decide if now is the best time to release the photos. If you are not going to believe the Navy Seals, the ship commander, and all top government officials of both parties that this happened, then photos are not going to prove anything.

Consider now the possibility of a release of a UBL “death” photo.
It has all the same procrastinating and indecision that were part of the original mission. I have to wonder if they think they can continue the “glow” by dragging it out with a promised “photo” that appears to always be “over the horizon” (like communism). They did exactly that with the “birthers,” so why not do a repeat ?
As for the sensitivities, doesn’t anybody think that killing him was insensitive enough. After screwing with the narrative, they now even have it looking like they shot down a defenseless UBL … like a mad dog. I don’t think the “he may have had a bomb under his clothes” story line is going to cut it.
If they really want UBL to be forgotten, let him go. Release the “death photo,” convincing those who can be convinced that UBL is dead, and close the bloody thing out. Instead, they have made a political calculation that they can bask in the glow of a killing, like a KKK mob after a lynching, and somehow show that they are “sensitive” by not releasing the bloody “photo.” Oh, please.

It’s not that I don’t believe that Bin Laden is dead.
It’s that is is America, and we aren’t supposed to have to just accept the President, or any politician, at his word.
Our press has a history of pressing for the most information available, and that is what Americans expect.

Republican senators and representatives have not had a problem in the past about disagreeing with what Obama has said. So why do you think all of them are believing Obama this time? Some of them have inside sources to information, so why are they congratuating the military? Because it is true. They disagree about releasing the photos, but they are not saying that bin Laden’s death is not real until they see the photos.
Posted by: MikeMo1947 | May 4, 2011, 9:57 am 9:57 am
So, what exactly are the consequences if someone doesn’t believe? Bupkus, that’s what. A fact isn’t more or less of a fact just because you do or do not believe in it. We’ll get by just fine without your approval. All these people want to do is:
- gloat
- satisfy morbid curiosity
- add another gory picture to their collections
- insert other childish behavior here
Posted by: LH | May 4, 2011, 9:58 am 9:58 am
I’m starting to become skeptical about this whole thing. Not saying that he isn’t dead, but the worrying about the sensitivies of terrorists is setting off an alarm bell.
No sensitivities regarding Abu Gharib, in fact, there was a huge push to publish those…no worries about the pics of Saddam’s sons, or even SH himself. NOW we’re worried about OBL?
Something is starting to stink in this, and I find it bothersome. What that means, I’m unsure, but there is something stinky in this story now.
Posted by: JR | May 4, 2011, 9:58 am 9:58 am
And for the President to basically say to the American people, “I am withholding information from you because I am afraid of our enemy” is shameful.
The President of the United States should not be leading the way in changing OUR lives to suit people in far away countries.

Obama and his minions has perpetrated the biggest sham in American history….this is all a political ploy to jump start The Obamanations 2012 campaign….well, my guess is, it will fail. The story has changed four times now? He had a gun, he ddin’t have a gun. His wife was killed, his wife was not killed. Obama gave the “Kill” order, Panetta overrode the Prez and gave the “kill” order. We would have taken him captive, we would not have taken him captive. The body dumped in the Ocean within two hours? A Musliim religious ceremony? Who are these idiots trying to fool? And now, Obama has the audacity to go to Ground Zero to gloat? Please, am I watching “wag the dog” or what???????
Posted by: Pol Cat | May 4, 2011, 10:00 am 10:00 am
The desire by some to release photos of Osama’s corpse, is consistant with our current pathetic American culture of reality TV; showing the most intimate, bloody details you can..in order to appease a voyeuristic public consumed with the gory details of whatever comes their way…so that they may feel better about their own lives. It would have been refreshing for a change if the American public conducted themselves with digity by marking Bin Laden’s death with reserved satisfaction, rather than getting drunk and chanting “USA” in the streets for all the world to see.

YAY! I agree with Obama! DON’T release the photo…. No good can come of it. Even if he releases it, there will be those skeptics who still don’t believe on top of the fact that there are some who will retaliate. Let his wife verify the information to the world!

“…with bin Laden’s wife having survived the attack to identify bin Laden’s death both to the Navy SEALs and Pakistani authorities.”

I think that one reason that Obama is in the trouble he is in is that he has chosen to surround himself with idiots, and he listens to them.

You poor people just don’t understand the situation. We’re all just Jerry’s, I mean, uh, Barry’s Kids. No matter how old we are, we’ll never really be grown up adults who can make our own decisions. Of course you can’t see the pictures. It’s just too much for you.
Posted by: Mike Field | May 4, 2011, 10:04 am 10:04 am
I will tell you who has a right to see the photos – the military service men and women who have spent a decade hunting down this man, the families of those who gave their lives for the operations (including the almost 1000 who have died in Afghanistan since Jan 2009), and the people who have funded all this (that would be you and me). You people work for us. Release the damn pictures.

“Osama is dead, that all we need to know.”
Yes Maurice, blindly believe everything your government tells you. I’m a natural born skeptic (I do believe he is dead though), so I don’t take the government’s word on anything without a large serving of salt.
Posted by: John the Revelator | May 4, 2011, 10:08 am 10:08 am
Obama will get a focus group and consider alternatives. Assign homework, and grade it. Then he will will ponder the problem and decide after thoughtful consideration. He’ll hide the photos, based on advice and his own fear that he will be targeted by Al-Qaeda.
Everyone believes him, so why show the pictures? He ordered that Seals kill the first thin male, in his 50′s with a beard, so it must be Bin Laden. The Seals had a few split seconds to decide, and then shoot to kill. Who would doubt it must have been Bin Laden? The body’s in the ocean somewhere. So no one will know. Maybe it will wash up on the Potomac someday.
Posted by: david hume | May 4, 2011, 10:09 am 10:09 am
What a contrast. White House delays in making the decision to go with the operation, multiple versions of the events on the ground being briefed and now vacillating on whether to release photos. SEAL Team flies in, fast-ropes down, takes out the bad guys, loads up files and departs within 40 minutes.

Then, when people start to look elsewhere, he will say “I made a decision to release the photo(s)”. It will bring it front and center again. Look at how he treated his birth cert.

After reading the comments on this post alone, I don’t believe releasing the photos would do any good. Every single skeptic will believe the picture was photoshopped. After all, tons of “fringe” people believe Obama’s long-form birth certificate was “heavily photoshopped”. If Gates and Clinton advise not to release the photos, I’m with them. Don’t release them. Doing so will inflame terrorists around the world. Their singular mission in life is to kill Americans and destroy our country. You don’t throw gasoline on smoldering embers.

Show the photo. We’ve seen our citizens sawed apart on video and the images of bodies dropping to the ground after propelling themselves out of the twin towers we need to post these photos. Their “tiger” is dead, let them see this coward broken and dead, let us see this coward broken and dead and let’s have some closure on this.

How did everyone feel when the two american soldiers where stung up in Samalia? Did it do Samalia any good? No it made them look stupid and weak, like heatherns. The photo will come out because we still have a third of the people in this country in denial that we have a black President. I am really dissapointed in this blind hatred and disrespect that so many are showing the Presidency of the USA. Just because you didn’t vote for him or even don’t like him he is still “OUR” president and deservse the respect of a President.

Do not let your personal dislike of the president blur that fact.

After we’ve seen every magazine and news agency with pictures of a fireman carrying a lifeless child’s body out of the federal building that McVeigh bombed I’m beginning to wonder why it’s only insensitive when it’s not an american we’re viewing dead? We routinely post photos of dead children, brutal assaults on women and mutilated service men but we won’t post a picture of a dead terrorist? Is it insensitivity or fear? And if it is fear, how long are we going to have our actions dictated by it? We already take our shoes off at airports, have our personal belongings rifled through and even our children’s bodies publicly examined and now we’re worried about insensitivity? Crapola, it’s all about fear and as my name says I’m done tired of being afraid.

There’s no need for the photo. Our government says he is dead and has staked a lot on that assertion. The proof of his death is that we will never hear from him again. If he survived he would be VERY eager to make a new video to prove it. The only reason to show the photo is blood lust and gore. It won’t be “proof” of anything for the wackos because anyone can be photoshopped or doctored with makeup. The photos will disgust people around the world, be seen as a desecration of a muslim body, and cost us good will. Jihadis will reprint it as propaganda. “See what Americans do to us?!” they will say. Please don’t release it.

This blog is a good example of how stupid some people are. They distort and lie and then turn around and accuse the President of lying about bin Laden. They talk like the President is the only person that claims bin Laden in dead. They don’t believe Bush and Cheney when they congratuate Obama and the military for a job well done. They are stupid enough to think that a photo is more proof than the eye witnesses and the DNA. They say the President is not releasing the photo because he is afraid of the enemy. False, he is concerned about Americans over seas and our military that are in hot spots of the war. Why would he want to make their job any more dangerous than it already is? I hope military parents and those serving in the military are not reading these stupid posts.

“US official: “The only skeptics are extremists and they wouldn’t be convinced by a photograph anyway.” Exactly. The real shame is that most of those skeptics are right here at home, and they ARE extremists; they will never accept ANY proof which legitimizes or lends the slightest degree of credit to Obama. Why would the release of these images resolve anything with those who STILL refuse to accept the overwhelming, undeniable evidence that the President was born in the U.S.? Why would PHOTOGRAPHS be considered any more persuasive than DNA evidence, the testimony of eyewitnesses, video footage, and the word of our own intelligence, military and elected officials? Release would do no good and likely do great harm to Americans serving and living around the world. Shameful that some care more about playing partisan politics and attacking the President at every turn than the good of the nation and their fellow Americans.

That’s going to leave a BIG SCAR! Besides, what were they watching as they sat around the Video TeleConf? This is about as unwise as Nixon’s recordings and others like it.
Running to the press with a Paul Revere approach to spread the news is equally unwise as the facts were still not clear—we all know the First Report is ALWAYS WRONG!
The historical sound bytes of Saddam’s capture clearly demonstrate a much more coherent approach…you may want to google it and see for yourself as it was NOT the POTUS making the initial announcement.

No one had a problem showing our people getting their heads sawed off by the Islamists. Show the photo and grow up, Obama.

Sorry, about upsetting the constantly enraged Muslims, Americans paid over a trillion dollars in tax dollars and a loss of over 10,000 of its citizens. We are being molested

Those who already hate us will do so whether or not it is released. We saw people jumping from the towers, our own slain president is on the internet for all to see (JFK)…release the photos of this mass murderer and stop worrying about what amounts to a bunch of crap.

It is pretty obvious that Hillary Clinton has once again placed herself over the country. She doesn’t want the photos of Osama Bin Laden released because she wants to use it as a platform against Barack Obama when she challenges him to the Democratic Primaries for the presidential elections.

This is just another example showing how the President cannot make a decision. I’d say he was wishy-washy, but I wouldn’t want to insult Charlie Brown. It was his indecision that increased the danger during the raid in the first place. Look at the picture above. Does Obama look like he’s in charge? Release the photos and videos already!
Posted by: tnmccoy | May 4, 2011, 11:11 am 11:11 am
For the most part, you could show a video of the blood gushing out of his head and him taking his last breath, and the naysayers would say it was a “doctored” film. Obama haters will never give up.
Posted by: mjinmd | May 4, 2011, 11:13 am 11:13 am
Please DO NOT release the photos. This is not a matter of respecting Muslims but respecting the USA, including Muslims. Releasing those photos will only serve to incite the extremists and terrorists, both here and overseas. The ones demanding proof that he is dead will not believe a photo in any case. The ones who already believe he is dead but want to see a gruesome photo for their morbid satisfaction should be seeking therapy.
I have spoken with dozens of active-duty soldiers since Monday and not one of them wants these photos released. I don’t think any of these men are afraid for themselves, but are afraid for the civilians around the world that will be at increased risk for extremists.

obama tried to stop the mission but was overruled by intel in the WH. They had to drag him off the golf course – this was part of his 16 hour delay before making the decision (“i want to sleep on it”).
obama isn’t a leader, and he doesn’t like to be told what to do. Look closely at the ‘war room’ photo….you’ll see obama for the failure that he is. Insiders say he tried to scramble the mission because he decided its failure could negatively impact his reelection campaign. Intel told him to shove it and they went ahead.

EASY SOLUTION…Allow 1 week for any and all media (from Beck to Olbermann)to fly to D.C. and examine photos and video and report back to the American people. That way it can be confirmed and it can’t be used to inflame further violence/retaliation.
Posted by: herbissimo | May 4, 2011, 11:18 am 11:18 am
The best way to avoid media hoopla and all that goes with it would have been to immediately release the photos hours ago without much comment. But by delaying and hand wringing and wondering aloud what to do, what to do… just stirs up a heated controversial frenzy! Once again, Obama is far too concerned (fearful?) about world opinion than he is American morale or he is trying to use this for political mileage. How about the guys who did the job? Do you really think the military is afraid to show the results of their heroic actions? Are hunters afraid to show the photos of their successful hunt?

That’s great. The left is always adament about releasing photos depicting the wrong-doing of a few bad apples within our military to the incalcualable and infinite detriment of the vast majority of our honorable military men and women. But, when it comes to releasing the death photo of America’s elusive number 1 enemy, the left is concerned about inciting violence in our enemies.
The hypocritical, politically-driven, double-standard is one area the Obama administration can claim great transparency over. While I’m glad Obama captured bin Laden, I can’t wait to have a president in office, again, who values country over such petty, partisan politics. If we can release Abu Ghraib photos and such, we can absolutely release photos of a dead bin Laden. Release these photos immediately! The world and the country deserve to see the evidence.

Why can’t you just be comfortable with that, like my supporters on this board who are supporting me are? They don’t mind being led by the nose, why should you? I know what’s best for you, just like your daddy did. So be thankful that I’m here to protect you from the bad people. I love you – really. Obama.

Why do we care what the Muslims will think? They prove to us every day by word and deed their goal is to kill us – how much damage can a picture really do after that? Besides, there are plenty of skeptics here in the US that believe bin Laden wasn’t killed. Unfortunately, this administration’s past history of deception only fuels that skepticism. However, should it ever be proven to be a lie and bin Laden is still alive – the disservice to our military and our citizens may never be able to be repaired. Show us proof of death!

NO NEED TO TRUST A PRESIDENT WHO DOESN’T LISTEN TO THE WILL OF HIS PEOPLE. Remember Obamacare, Arizona and our borders, unemployment won’t

To be honest, since the operation we have seen nothing but confusion and incompetence coming out of the White House.Failure to publish a photo rapidly has already spawned the expected “Osama lives!” BS among his supporters;the shock and awe of a quick release has already evaporated. The changing story of Osama armed, then not armed, then resisting, then not resisting, using a human shield, then not using a shield-is it any wonder that now there is a report from a “witness” that he was shot after capture? If this was all along a mission to kill him,why not just bomb the compound without risking any lives-like originally planned in March?I will grant that we may have picked up important hard-drive info, but that appears to have been a secondary issue.Lastly, unless the “courier” story is misdirection, you have seen the greatest release of confidential tracking methods and techniques in the history of covert warfare, therefore eliminating any further use of these same techniques.

It won’t convince people that want to believe he’s alive anyway. Professional photoshop may be detectable by some and others could probably figure it out with the right equipment, but no one that believes it’s not him will accept a photo, or reported DNA, or even eyewitness reports. Releasing a gory picture of him without much of his head remaining isn’t going to help anything. I don’t like it when the animals over there do it to us, and I don’t think we should do it. If any of the victims of 9-11 need to see it, they should be allowed a viewing, but no copies.

Mr. Trump Card is insulting the office of the President of the United States. So are the others who are using him as an attack dog. SHAME ON YOU, SHAME ON ALL.
If you really want to destroy these beautiful United States of America, please do vote for
Mr. TRUMP CARD. It surely will expedite the process. Before you do that, please check
the following RUMORS about the TRUMP CARD:
1. He was not born in the United States either (Birth Certificate?)
2. He is a Jew but claims to be a Christian (Bar Mitzvah or Baptization?)
3. He is promoting Gambling (Casinos), womanizing (adultery) and admitted
SCREWING Qaddafi on TV (committing acts of cheating and fraud)
4. Ask him where did he get all the money from? PROOF OF THE PRODUCT?
5. He could not manage three wives, admitted his failure and divorced them.
6. One of his daughter is having or had a child out of wedlock (Family values?)
7. And many more to come.
Please ask him to rebut these so called rumors by providing documentary evidences from the local, the state and/or the federal authorities before OFFICIALLY announcing his candidacy for the highest elected office in the United States of America.
A man, who cannot manage his own personal affairs, has repeatedly failed in business VENTURES, divorced his wives and has no moral values to speak of, how can he manage the affairs of more that 300 million people of the United States of America? THINK and Think again!
He’s an inexperienced dude with NO real plan for the country, (he’s like a snake oil charmer, selling hope in a bottle to the masses). He will tell you that he can get rid of trillions of dollars of debt in the first year of his presidency. Yes he can.
That‘s what he has done all his life. He will put the United States on the BLOCK and sell it to highest bidder, including China, get rid of the debt and everything will be fine and dandy. Your children and grandchildren will not have to pay anything to anyone,
any more.
United States of America, the greatest nation on this earth will be FREE at last
from all those hypocrites, who are bickering about the debt and balancing the budget.
FREE at last, free at last, once for all. FREE AT LAST.
May God bless America and save us all from the evil intentions of Mr. TRUMP CARD, Amen.

The bottom line is the American People have a right to see these pictures and bring closure to this chapter in our history. Its sad that this administration holds the American people captive and tells us what is goog for us and cares more about the muslim world than they do the people in their own country. People would much rather seen him burn alive then get his brains blown out. People quickly forget all of the people who were murdered at the hands of this mad man. Him being shot in the head is too human for evil like him yet were debating a picture with his evil brains gushing out? Are you kidding me! Im sure he provided a proper christian burial for all the christians he killed. America has become so politically correct its ridiculous. Do people honestly think that not showing his picture will will inflame anymore radical muslim extreamist than there already are? Its time for a reality check , show the damn picture and show the world what happens to evil when it attacks america. Not showing the picture and this continuous rhetoric about being overly sensitive to the Islamic community is making are country appear weak around the world and some could argue by the united states appearing weak causes more violence around the world because evil like UBL thinks they wont be brought to justice. WAKE UP AMERICA THE WORLD IS A ROUGH PLACE AND BY YOU LIVING IN YOUR BUBBLE AND PRETENDING EVIL CAN BE RID BY THE WHITE GLOVE TREATMENT WERE GIVING EVIL PEOPLE YOUR GREATLY MISTAKEN.

Seeing a bloody photo of bin Laden will do nothing positive. Not for America’s global image, not for US troops in harm’s way, not for our children at home. Supporters of Osama bin Laden must be bitterly disappointed at the relatively quiet worldwide response over his death. They would wish the photo released – what better way to stir up fury and promote his martyrdom.
But keep in mind, negativity is exactly what those howling for its release want for this President, whether at home or abroad. Their hatred shines most clearly in a time when our nation should soberly reflect on how to prevent future costly wars and extract our military from the Middle East.

They should be used internally to verify what we are doing is correct, but not for the public when it could be used to put Americans and our military in greater danger than it already is. They can be released in about 10-20 years for historical purposes if international situation is hopefully better.

Obama and team struts around and beating your chests? — and now they are worried about how the Muslim world and in fact, the rest of the world might react to our childish, immature, and blatantly political use of this event? You have to ask yourself – How would the Israeli Mossad have handled the initial action? – and more importantly, how would they have handled the release of the information? I can tell you that the target would be dead – with little to no evidence of an action. The bad guys would know that Mossad had done it — but, you would not be seeing or hearing anybody openly taking credit for the action. No wonder the world thinks we are a bunch of clowns.

A photo proves nothing because it is so easy to alter. However, it is very difficult to have all government officials of both parties and former Presidents of both parties agree that bin Laden was killed. They all agree and that is solid proof. They may disagree as to whether the photo should be released, but they all agree that he was killed.

For you liberals on here who don’t think the photos should be released, can you tell me what prompted the jihadist muslims to attack us on 9-11-01? What about the Ft Hood murderer? Need I provide more examples? What photos were released to entice these murderous attacks on Americans?
When are you ever going to face the fact that these murderers were murderers before any photos were released and that they are on a mission from allah to kill us infidels? WAKE UP America!

The primary source of the “Osama Lives!” conspiracy theory is RIGHT HERE in the U.S., among the usual suspects (the “birthers” and others who grasp at any straw, no matter how ridiculous or far-fetched and regardless of any evidence to the contrary, to attack our President.)
Even JOHN McCAIN, who atended a special briefing on the issue, sees no reason to release the photos in light of the potential harm AND the abundance of proof already avaialble.
The extreme right fringe long ago went off the deep end…even most Republicans want nothing to do with them. This is NOT about partisan politics; it is about the crazy idiots vs everyone else.

If Obama doesn’t release the photographic evidence soon these polls will nose dive. I was personally affected by UBL and lost family and friends. I want to see pictures of this man dead. Call me cryptic, call me late for supper but I’m done being toyed with by this administration. This looks to be nothing more than a larger set-up to call Americans insane for wanting to see this evidence akin to the baggers and birther’s with the BC but much larger in scope. This exemplary prosecution by our Navy SEAL’s is being tarnished IMO. We paid for this GD war and we want to see the fruits of our investment however gruesome this may be. The release of this evidence is not up to Obama, it’s now all about Obama, not 9/11 or UBL which is unacceptable. This is now up to the Press and I expect the Press to complete this decade old circumference. EOM

JOhn | May 4, 2011 11:38:16 AM I agree with you. It seems that all this story about showing or not showing the pictures is again news entertainment: and some people love that. The news is that OBL was killed, and the pictures won’t change the mind of anyone believing in conspiracy theory. At the end of the day, we should ask ourselves: why should the pictures be released? What could the USA as a country achieve by releasing them? The argument that the Administration should release the pics because the terrorists have done it, is problematic: should we, as a country, engage ourselves in the same mindset as terrorist groups.

I know the left blames us for anything they think they can get away with, but this seems like a stretch to me.
While I don’t trust this administration, or this lying president about anything, I don’t think the pictures should be released.
Wanting them released, or not, would depend more on other facets of a person’s views about events, than on one’s political views. The only group I know whose political views do not include concern about accuracy and truths is the Progressive left.
Obama contemplates transparency only when he thinks it will give him some political benefit.

If you don´t publish them even Americans will begin to doubt it happenned and it will become a big mess for the president like his birth certificate. Delay only suggests that an elaborate process of photo fabrication is underway.

Here is my thought.
I agree that releasing these photos are not the right thing to do.
I am not a “sheep” and don’t always believe the hype, but is releasing the photos really the important thing here?
How about getting our men and women out of the Middle East and back home where they belong? No matter what, (even tho I didn’t vote for him) Obama is going to make what he thinks is the best decision. and I kind of believe that releasing these photos could unveil a horrible backlash — maybe even worse than what happened on 9/11.
I have loved ones fighting this war and my younger brother just joined the Army is currently in boot camp for the next several months. I want my loved ones home. and I want to know my brother is not getting deployed immediately beyond boot camp. It’s not reality tho.
Not releasing these photos is not weakness. It’s a good judgment call.
So what if others would release the photos. Would that not mean a bigger, worse retaliation is about to come? Think about it. If the extremists were to murder one of our own figureheads, and then parade the photos around, would we not fight harder to eliminate them?
Obviously, we would. And we would come back a million times worse.
The same logic applies here.

I’d say there is some doubt with the American people that he was really killed, especially since the body was disposed of so quickly. Americans need to see the photos.

Sally Hayes – Are you on the on the front line in Afgahanistan? I assume not since you are not worried if the release of photos will increase the determination of the enemy. Even if it only incites one more Afghan to kill only one more American soldier, is it worth releasing the photos so you know the military did kill bin Laden?

Posted by: Suhm Dumgai | May 4, 2011, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm
While releasing the photo may seem gruesome to some, it will help serve as closure for those who lost a love one during the 9/11 or any other attack against the US. It’s the right thing to do. Alternatively, the US could release a COPYRIGHTED photo on a ‘subscription only’ basis similar to lots of news feeds, online subscriptions, photographers, etc. with a legal disclaimer that it can only be viewed and in no manner distributed. That way, only people desiring to view the photo would be allowed to and the Pakistanians may not view it as us releasing the photo to the general public resulting in no backlash. I think our US government could serve to think ‘outside the box’ a little more.

My opinion, It will make much difference if the photo is released or not. The Isalm world will invent a reason to attack us. Just the mention that the USA killed Osama, is enough for major plans to be in motion. Do not kidd yourself thinking that photographs or no photgraphs will really make a difference in the upcomming weeks. The release may prompt radical behavior from some groups, but the bigger plan to invaid, set off bombs in the USA is still active. As long as the USA is thought of as weak, they will attack. The best thing to do,is to bring our military home to protect our boarders.

This would be a good time for the president to show he is strong and will not pander to racist skeptics and conspiracy theory hunters… none of them will EVER be satisfied anyway. If the american public needs further proof… talk to Bin Laden’s wife/kids… or get someone the American people respect like…unfortunately… Donald Trump or a little better Bill Clinton to watch the kill video and then report that they have seen the evidence with their own eyes and it is real. But releasing the video and pictures at this point would have a devestating effect to the world and to his presidency… and I think that the people who are calling for this realize that… and the american people shouldn’t support it… he’s dead… believe it.

Photo or not, the discrepencies with the entire situation is the issue. Maybe if The administration got their ‘facts’ straight before telling us how it happened in 6 different ways and more to come, there wouldn’t be so many issues with trying to match DNA and photo recognition. Remember after 9/11 there were tons of discrepencies and they created a 9/11 commission to shut us up, yet they did a very bad job of resolving the most important issues. So i believe independent research will be required in the future. Don’t believe everything authority and people with power tell you… Think for yourselves.

Who are “THEY”? You are very confused. The “THEY” that the Administration talks about are the Muslims in general, not the extremists and terrorists.
Unsatisfied became your leitmotiv. This operation could have turned as bad as the operation in Iran under Carter’s presidency. But it did not. So, now what? It absolutely amazes me, after everything this country has been through in the past few years, being led into economic collapse at the hands of our deceitful government, with our rights slowly being taken away in the name of “security,” how ANYONE who claims to be of intelligent, sound mind could just blindly believe whatever the government tells them without wanting verifiable PROOF.

If the people wish to just trust the government, like we have, they will do what they want, like they have. Hence the reason for our out-of-control debt, and policing the world. The government doesn’t listen to the people anymore, and here is another example. Hope you all enjoyed having a country that belonged to you, because those days are gone. How do you like having no voice?

I am absolutely amazed…AMAZED…that ANYONE is buying the crap our President is selling. The Pakistan Observer reported 12-26-2001 Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication. So we DON’T need to convince the Muslims. So WHO is being duped here? The American Sheeple! On December 17,2003 Madeline Albright told Roll Call executive editor Mort Kondracke Bin Laden was caught….so who are the Conspiracy Freeks? OK, move along now. Nothing to see here…..maybe Thursday the administration can get their story straight & maybe even a picture? I hope they use a better computer whiz than they did on his new & improved Birth Certificate!!! LOL

There is no controversy about whether bin Ladin is dead or not. The only controversy is how many doubters will believe it after seeing photos.
Posted by: MikeMo1947 | May 4, 2011, 1:29 pm 1:29 pm
So, why no photo? Panetta said we’d have one by now. But here’s the rub. A photo-shopped image of Bin Laden with a head wound can be detected by blowing it up in size. A 35mm photo can be doctored up more effectively, but almost nobody in the military uses those cameras anymore. The only thing to do is have a good artist — someone who works with wax — create a fake Bin Laden head and have an expert make-up artist gore it up. Then take a photo of it with a digital camera and voila — we have a nice seamless fake to show the public. What so many of you are missing is the Seals video their raids. Yet we haven’t seen one second of the raid’s video. They could leave out the gory parts, if they had it, but the fact is they probably did not get Bin Laden, and he has indeed been dead for nearly a decade now. Madeleine Albright and others in a position to know have said as much. By blaming Pakistan for hiding Bin Laden (in almost plain sight no less), we have the pretext to invade Pakistan, a country with nukes and a country we’ve been concerned about for quite some time. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was contrived to get us into Viet Nam and that’s an indisputable fact. As a nation, we need to “trust but verify”. After the Tillman-incident lies — one after another — I believe it’s best to trust but verify when it comes to this latest incident involving Bin Laden.

Why is it okay to show our towers falling which killed thousands of people on live tv, but not okay to show the supposed man that did it to us dead. Were desensitized enough to handle viewing the death of thousands before our eyes, but cant handle viewing one man dead? Kinda makes you question whats really going on.

I don’t think that they should release the photos. Place them in the Smithsonian on Sept. 11, 2011, and if people want to see them they can travel to Washington DC. I am not interested in seeing them.

Bad move. Very bad.

Anyone who would believe that a picture of a dead-appearing Osama Bin Laden on the internet proves anything would also believe that the CIA could not fake a “long-form” birth certificate for Barak Hussein O’Kenya and insert it into the Hawaii State Records to be “found” by the President’s foot lackey.
Posted by: Rwirerope | May 4, 2011, 1:32 pm 1:32 pm
So, the issue here is that releasing the photos may harm the sensibilities of people living in Pakistan (pronounced Paw-kee-ston), Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Yemen, Syria and the rest of the Middle East. Is our president giving greater regard to them than his own people, the Americans? Overwhlmingly, the American people (whose tax dollars funded this gutsy mission) want to see the proof of our money well spent. Yet, our sensibilities seem to be of less importance than those of the Mooslim world in the Middle East. I am not a “deather,” I believe Osama is dead. But as an American citizen and tax payer, I DEMAND to see these photos now. Remember Barry, you work for US. And WE want the photos. Now. Screw the radical Mooslims, they hate us anyway. SHOW US THE PHOTOS and stop jerking your people off like this.

Every man, woman and child in America has already paid about $4000 for that picture. The government has NO RIGHT to not release it. We bought it, it’s OURS.
As far as I’m concerned, until everyone sees it, Osama’s still alive. I would NEVER take the word of the Ministry of Truth or its henchmen in the MSM on this.

Just google “bin laden dead pic” The pic comes up on a pic of an arab news report. Looks real to me. That’s UBL with a bullet in his eye. What’s the big deal? The pic is out there. Just show it like a badge of honor! My husband’s bro was killed on 9/11/01. I really hope UBL is alive and being tortured.

Photos we won’t see: OBL corpse. Photos we will see: Obama grandstanding around Ground Zero in his sudden first visit there.
Note to WH: Any Muslim upset by the handling of Osama’s carcass or photos of his exposed brain housing group was probably not too thrilled about his killing in the first place.
I’ve seen more decisiveness from a 5 yo in a toy store than I have from this President in the past 48 hours.

Not a Moron – You cannot easily tell if a photo that the military releases has been photoshopped. Besides that, photos published in papers and on web sites are low resolution copies of the real photos. Evidence of tampering is generally undetectable except in clumsy efforts by amateurs. Forensic specialists do not work from a copy of the photo as it appears on web sites, but with the photo claimed to be original.

There is a story that shows that the Imam at the Al Aqsa Mosque knows his Koran much better than he knows about the rest of the creations of God. He sees the teeth of Islamist Fighters and assumes they are lions. Since he has no concept of size, perhaps he is a mouse or vole. They are in fact ferrets which also have teeth (both the ferret and the lion are considerably larger than a mouse or vole). These ferrets attacked the nest of the eagle, and then hid like the cowards they are. (Eagles do not have teeth, therefore they cannot be lions). It took ten years for the eagle to locate the correct ferret. The eagle then swooped in on the lair of the ferret, dug him out, and carried him away to the sea where he dropped him in so he could disappear into a well-deserved oblivion. So shall it be with all cowardly ferrets that attack eagles. The moral of the story for Islamist fighters is that just because lions have teeth, and so do you, do not mistake your puny ferret’s body and cowardly ferret’s heart for that of a lion. That mistake can be fatal for all of your coreligionists who choose to pick a fight with an eagle.

“Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are advising the president about concerns at the Pentagon and State Department that releasing a photograph could prompt a backlash against the US for killing bin Laden where one does not seem to currently exist.” – ABC News
So let’s see if I follow the logic here.
In areas of the world where people at least were ambivalent towards the USA will now erupt in protest against us for killing the world’s number one terrorist.
Huuummmm . . . . . that doesn’t make any sense.
Wouldn’t all the good people on the planet, muslims included be cheering and happy that Bin Laden is dead? Aren’t they cheering USA! USA! USA!

The man is dead, there are family witnesses to it and DNA evidence to it. There is no point in showing pictures. weighing all pros and cons – there really are no pros (nothing to gain) and yet there are many cons. Having a son in Afghanistan as i write this, why potentially flare things up for our troops. It’s a no brainer.

What a circus. How low has civilisation sunk? And WHY does the WHITE HOUSE version of events change by the hour? What are the “sensitivies” that are frightening Obama? Is it Mrs Clinton’s look of horror as she witnessed a ritual killing as glorious as a gangland slaughter? A raid on a nursing-home killing an old ill man…and then on day one trying to portray him as the coward …and later changing the story, and changing it again and again?
Where are all the dead bodyguards involved in the “firefight”? It seems these bodies evapourated. Was there ever a firefight? Probably not! Local people would have been aware of guards etc…but this seems to be a piece of US fiction. So what Obama and staff okayed and watched was ritual murder.
And for one day at least…before questions were asked…it was painted by Obama a a glorious event…
What a bloody shambles by an incompetent idiot doing all in his power to be re-elected.
It will be Bin Laden,s laughter that wll resound if his killing inflicts another spell of Obama-Biden on the Western world….long life the wild west. Long live Obama the man that shot Bin Laden

One of the best quotes I heard about the whole Osama thing is this. “On July 20 1969 the United States landed a man on the moon. The President at that time was Richard Nixon. Nixon neither took or has been given credit for the success of the mission. That went to NASA, the astronauts, and the President who had the goal to put a man on the moon, JFK. Now, compare that to what President Obama said Sunday.” Nuff said!

Yeah, this is the admin that promised transparency. So how it would be “no good” if we were to see evidence. What a decade of war, trillions of dollars, countries invaded, and innocent death has gotten us. I’m no fan of American bloodlust, but it’d be edifying to see a photograph of the man we just killed.
And if they were going to pick and choose about the operation and how the information is released, they should have waited until longer after the first press conference of the Federal Reserve. I mean, that’s kind of more important than some dead A-Hole.

Recent events have led me to the conclusion that we are being told truths, half-truths, and lies. Only three days have passed and the story has changed just as it would – had it been told a thousand years ago. DECEPTION… More important is the fanatical relationship that many people seem to believe they have with whichever puppet they choose to believe in. DECEPTION… Until people start to wise up, look at the strings being pulled, and ACTUALLY TAKE NOTICE – DECEPTION…

I agree, although I can understand the need of people to see with their own eyes what has happened. Without giving any conspiracy nuts credence, it is also true that our government from time to time has lied to us. The military lied about the reason for going to war in Vietnam, and we paid for that decision with many thousand american lives. And both a democratic and a republican president held up those lies.
So, I can understand the need to “see”. But Bryan is right – we are americans and we do not do many of the things that our enemies have done. Posting a video of the beheading of Pearl doesn’t mean we should do likewise.
And I agree with President Obama completely about the doubters: no amount of evidence will convince them, anyway. They will be looking of evidence of photoshopping, will be searching in every nook and cranny to be able to say, nay, it ain’t so.

People who hate will find a reason to hate no matter what you do, so don’t let conspiracies run amuck! That isn’t good for anyone. Note: we also allow victims to view executions what is the difference.

I am sorta Right Wing and I do believe that OBL was killed in this raid. I do not believe Obama an Company committed murder. This was a justified kill. The house was a command center and OBL was the leader. Obama did the right thing in this case. I may disagree with any number of his other policies, here I approve.
That said, I want to see the pictures. Our enemies won’t like it, but they will come up with reasons to attack regardless. I want to see as it gives some closure that only seeing the picture can provide. Remember the first rounds of the fight began when the US was a brand new country with the Ottoman Empire protected Barbary pirates in Tripoli attacking our commercial ships. We did not start the battle. We cannot win by coddling them. They respect strength or at least fear it enough to back off if it is perceived to be real.
Bush may or may not have made a mistake attacking Iraq, but he went in so strong that Libya surrendered their nuclear ambitions without a fight. We then went soft and everyone started pushing back.
It seems strange, but if you commit to a war, you should push hard and strong to the end. Fewer people die and suffer that way. Your enemies will then be less likely to strike in the future as well.
I love my nation and would never invite the President or any member of our government to make a misstep just for mere political gain. My request for the photos is sincere and I hope to see them one day.

Yeah. Lets not show the body of a dead man, but we can use as much gore make-up we want to dramatize a wound in shows like Law and Order and CSI. The media released video of people jumping to their death when the World Trade Centers were attacked. Why is it we can show our citizens commiting suicide, but cannot see a still picture of a dead known terrorist?

President Obama is increasingly doubtful that there’s a compelling reason to release a photograph of Osama bin Laden’s corpse, ABC News has learned.
