This resolution authorized military force for the purpose of capturing or destroying the Al Qaeda leadership. So why are we still there? Nation building? US forces will never control the complex allegiances and loyalties of Afghan tribal communities or the Afghan approach to government. We must ask our leaders to recognize the will of other peoples and acknowledge our own limits, financially and morally. Otherwise, what ARE the justifications for a lingering war in Afghanistan – Heroin and a gas pipeline?
