The best course of action would be for his body to be returned to his family in Saudi Arabia; after that, they can do what they will.
America is not a country that parades bodies through the streets. You need to be the bigger man in all this and prove to the rest of the world that America is run by rational adults.

It is very important that we show respect and follow Muslim tradition in regards to bin Laden’s body. We need to be better than our enemies and we need to not create a foreign policy nightmare in the middle east by showing disrespect of Muslim tradition.

It is interesting that the President never mentioned this disposal of remains tonight but it is being reported on every local newscast across the country. Where did the information come from?

As much as I hate to say it, I can understand the US’s position in this. Does he deserve all of the care that we are taking to make sure he is buried right according to his religion? I think this is a huge mistake, not due to the fact that they are burying it according to religious protocols, but rather because people will demand proof. With Saddam, we had reasonable proof that it was him, and this is how it was being dealt with.
With Osama, we will be giving people sufficient doubt that this was truly him, including myself. The public needs something more definitive. Otherwise there will be controvery and doubt.

Burial at sea avoids any possibility of turning a land burial site into a shrine to what they will consider a martyr. Remember what happened when Terry Jones burned the Quran? Innocent people died over that – we don’t need to add fuel to the fire and above all else, we are better than that. He was pure evil, don’t stoop to his level. I’d imagine there is helmet cam or gun cam footage of Bin Laden being killed, but unless there’s another Bradley Manning out there to leak it, we will never see it in our lifetime.

Why at sea? the reason given does not actually make any sense, because that means the military does not have a problem wit the place where he was killed becoming a shrine for his followers. He showed sympathy to the American kids who have to grow up without the love and care of their parents who died in 9/11. What about the Iraqi,afghani and libyan children who have to face life without parents because of the U.S led military intervention in those countries? And if Obama does not care about those souls how does he expect those children to respect american souls?.

It is essential to draw a distinction between bin Laden/al Quaida and Islam. There are thousands of American Muslims who despised bin Laden and have been suffering as a result of the stigma that has tainted their religion. By respecting the Muslim tradition the presidency is sending a global message that America is a civilized nation which has ensured that justice was served.

If in fact this is such a momentous occasion, then what is the rush to dispose of what could be some of the most important historical evidence that was under our control? If bin Ladin performed all those heinous acts, the we all wanted (or still want) him to be brought to justice. However, something fishy is going on here. I think they are lying about killing bin Ladin or about burying him. Let’s take a look at the facts here.
1. The extremely quick burial: If they killed him on May 1st, why were they so quick to bury him on May 2nd? I dont care religion or not, for a man who they claim killed so many people, they would want to hold his body for sometime for number of reasons.
2. The never shown body: How come they never shown the dead body that we can all tell it was him. I remember when they killed Saddam, his dead body was all over the internet and news. This is what would actually bring closure to those who lost their loved ones to this man. The same reason why when a murderer is executed, the victim’s relatives attend and see the criminal die.
3. The untraceable burial site: Why bury him at sea where nobody can never exhume the body for any reason in the future. If it turns out that the man they claim was not really Osama, nobody can ever exhume his body and test is for identity.
Conclusion: Either they are lying about the whole issue of killing bin Laden. Not only did they fail to show the dead body, but they claim to have buried the dead body within 24 hours according to Islamic law, a reason I find unbelievable. If they wanted to respect Islamic law, then the burial itself must have performed by Islamic men, and must have been buried at land, not sea. If they really killed him, which at this point they have not presented us with convincing evidence proving this, they are lying about burying his body. They have it somewhere for whatever reasons.
It’s not the first time they have claimed they’ve killed this man. Politicians lie everyday to get what they want.

I can understand not wanting a proper burial for this man,I can. But what use is it to just be as hateful as the people we are at war with right now. How does that make a right? We finally found and killed the most wanted man in the world. I also agree that Islamic Sharia should be followed in the burial of Osama Bin Laden. I also read a few passages on a few sites regarding his family (in Saudi)…. the majority of his family disowned him many years ago and he was not allowed to go back to his home country of Saudi Arabia (man with out a country.)

Good Morning America and Several Talk shows,back after 9-11, spoke of Bin Laden’s failing health, he has to be on the dialysis machine once to twice a month, the jaundiced skin and thinning features, then greying hair where in the face it looked as if he aged 10 yrs, the man had maybe a year or so to live. The burial at see is not about respecting obl. it is about decorum and minimizing potential fallout from his death. Why get rid of the body so fast? What are they trying to cover up? They said they did DNA testing to verify who he was, but it takes about 2 days to do those tests and there are nofacilities to do it in that part of the world. No, the ships don’t have that kind of equipment. So who did it and where was it done? It is not possable to do the tests in a few hours before telling the world the tests were done. There are too many questions with no answers here, and no more “body of evidence” to check out again. Too convienient!

I would like a picture showing that Bin Laden’s brother alive. If one were to argue that we “got the wrong guy”, then it would have to be his brother who also lived at that house. They said they used the sister’s DNA to confirm that the dead body was Osama bin Laden. Couldn’t that also match his brother? I am pretty dismayed by a lot of reader’s comments. Did bin Laden care if he be-headed American captives on live broadcast Al Jazeera??? Don’t think so….. did he give those people, that he killed any kind of moral, ethical, religious treatment??? I don’t think so…. He deserved what he got… he died a cowardly death, hiding behind one of his wives. If he had any balls at all, he would have, once knowing he was doomed, walked up to the first American Special Forces personnel, and say, I am ready to die, I am ready to go see Allah, but the coward did not….. How about his 23 virgins in heaven??? Do you really really think he thought he would go to see that??? He would chose to die a valiant death, if he were a true believer.

First it’s a 45-min. firefight and he hides behind his wife, then he’s unarmed and he didn’t hide. We get Photoshopped pictures made two years ago, and a “Situtation Room” shot we’re told shows Obama’s team watching the raid, but then they say there was no such video.
