ABC News’ Arlette Saenz (@arlettesaenz) reports:
Newt Gingrich may have skipped the social conservative conference in Washington, D.C. this weekend, but Ralph Reed, the chairman of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, isn’t too bothered by the lack of his attendance given Newt is the only candidate who spoke at the conference in its inaugural year in 2010.
“Newt was the only one of all these candidates who was here last year, so I don’t want to say anybody gets a pass,” Reed told ABC News. “Newt was at the first conference and he’s a dear friend. He would’ve been here if he could’ve been.”
Asked if he thought the next Republican candidate for president was speaking at the conference this weekend, Reed told ABC News, “Obviously Newt or one of these others is going to be the nominee.”
