deadwrestler hit on the head.too poor to eat right but not poor enough for a cell phone.i see it every day. kids exempt from paying for school lunch and day care while mommy and daddy ( if he is around)and the KIDS themselves have cell phones. got love it. only in america.

Isn’t it obvious? They voted with the Democrats because they felt the Democrat are correct on this issue. Slashing these budgetary fractions of pennies from social programs that help the most vulnerable among us is STUPID, short sighted, and ultimately costs MORE MONEY in the long run……

EXCELLENT REPORTING!
First and foremost, my thanks to the John R. Parkinson and his editor for not only providing a link to the actually vote tally, but for listing those 19 Republicans who voted “nay.”
My only critique of the article concerns the lack of reporting as to why true conservatives like Michelle Bachman, Ron Paul, Dana Rohrabacher and others would vote against the bill.
What reasons did the Republicans who voted with the Dems give for doing so?
I’m sure I’m not the only reader who would like a answer to this question.

Bob, slashing funding for programs to feed the poor is not updating or modernizing.
You are totally ignoring that 12.4 million children live in ‘food insecure’ households, in other words they go hungry a lot.
The Republicans who voted for this bill, are part of the class warfare being waged by the Party against the poor and middle-class.

Let me guess peanut butter and jelly to costly. Baloney or turkey to fattening.
The things most people over 45 grew up on,
brown bagging it to school while our parents
struggled to pay the bills, just to much these
days. Funny how all these kids have cell phones and can text each other all day long but there is no money for food. Priorities in
this country are just plan screwed up.
