ABC News' Mary Bruce reports: Next week in L.A., the first lady will share her message of support for military families with Carly Shay, her sassy best bud Sam, and the always tech-savvy Freddie, also known as the cast of Nickelodeon’s popular show iCarly, the White House confirmed to ABC.
Mrs. Obama will appear in an upcoming episode of the popular comedy to promote Joining Forces, an initiative launched by the first lady and Dr. Jill Biden in April to encourage communities to “give our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned.”
For those of you not familiar with the show, a favorite of first daughters Sasha and Malia, Carly, played by Miranda Cosgrove, is the daughter of a U.S. Air Force Officer temporarily stationed on a submarine. Although Col. Shay is never seen on the show, he is mentioned often.
In the episode, likely to air in January, Carly and her friends will break some rules to set up a web chat between Carly and her dad on his birthday. The first lady apparently learns of the mischievous behavior and intervenes to speak with them, according to the Associated Press.
This will not be the first lady’s first appearance on a television program to promote Joining Forces. She and Dr. Biden dropped by Sesame Street last month.
