The Presidential Planner

ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: After two days on the road in North Carolina, Florida and Puerto Rico, the president is back in the White House today for a series of meeting and briefings.

Most notably, Obama will meet in the Oval Office this afternoon with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who is resigning at the end of this month. The Vice President will also attend the meeting.

Making a return to the schedule is the president’s economic briefing. Obama used to receive a daily briefing on the economy, now, according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, “it  happens occasionally, it doesn't happen all the time.”

In the afternoon, it’s off to the movies.  As a Father’s Day treat for military families, the president will host military fathers and their children for a screening of Disney’s “Cars 2” at the White House. This is the first in a summer movies series supporting military families.

This evening, the president and the First lady will host a picnic at the White House for Members of Congress.
