The constitutionality of invoking the 14th Amendment is perhaps in question. On the other hand, if faced with eminent danger to the full faith and credit of our nation, downgrading our credit rating, being cast as a deadbeat nation, the President should simply order the appoprate departments to ignore the deficit and proceed with payments.

Critics should remember that the deficit was predominantly created by Republicans.

Consider also that increased federal spending underr the president — even with Bush's grotesque spending assigned to the President for the stimulus monies, spending was much lower than any other President since before Ronald Reagan's term of office.

Want facts? Most conservatives don't, but if they are interested they may review reports of the U.S. Office of Management & Budget — hardly a liberal federal organization.

Annualized growth under Obama was 1.4. Bush II finished his record at a WHOPPING 7.3 in his first term, and 8.4 in his second term. Ronal Reagan was worst at 8.7! President Clinton? 3.4 and then 3.9.

Most conservatives simply gobble wildly about the President about anything and everything, but consistently fail to provide facts of any kind. If you are such a person, I cahllenge you to actually READ the Affordable Care Act before you bash it. I submit that you will be persuaded that it is a good bill. What is needed at this time is greater stimulus. The overwhelming majority of economists will happily tell you that the deficit is a virtually insignificant matter right now in the face of the need for more stimulus.

Do it Obama! Invoke the 14th Amendment if this falls through. The GOP doesn't have enough votes to impeach you! Default is not an option. Those who don't like you, will never like you, so who cares. Just do what's right for the country. The 14th Amendment all the way!! If I were president, that's what I would do; to heck with the GOP and the Tea Party; they just want you to fail anyway.

JULIA u hit the nail on 30% of washington BS.
It Doesnt realy matter enyway today was coming for decades. the seiling will rais but soon we will defult and the again a yaer after and prices will go up. we must except that no empire can last for ever.
Obama needs not be impeach as he has done a terific job.OBL and the right calls with afgan iraq and the decision to share the majority of war burden with other nations the atempt to stop the healthcare rape the fda extors out of our tax dollars to overprice NOT THE SOLUTION to medical problems and the sucsess of the dod bill and homestar though they were trampled on by 2010. saveing us from defult without ceiling raising in 2008, I just wish he had more power.
but what is the solution.once again his opinion dominated the lazy donkeys and fat elephants. right now we must do the ceilin thing but after lets cut the hell out of everything to bring down the dept end bush tax cuts as all men are created equal and devide that money to maintain our bills and give buy stoch in the future while giveing out grants to sell the future witch is the best way to create jobs.
the only reason why raising the dept is in question is so the tax does not have to be raised cuz politics are ritch lobbiest are ritch but oil coal lunesta and mcdonalds are ritcher so suck the life out the the credit of america befor you shave some capital of the bushi.
the governments job is to govern not to make profit for the ritch so if we need to get a little socialist LIKE ROSEVELT and EISENHOWER then so be it. If we had a stronger government we would be driveing in bio-deisle by now. every cup of tea has its poison and right now capitalism is running America more the representitive government and capitalism is a tyrant and tyrant.

Your opinion is based on ignorance of the history of Constitutional Law and precedent.
Perhaps people are not constitutional experts but they do know when something doesn't sound good. Having nearly 600 elected law makers run the country into the ground to where it is at now is bad enough but to allow one man to tack on a couple trillion more to fritter about to and fro with is worse so restraints need to be in place to stop the bleeding.
This isn't an emergency, we have been here before and it will get resolved through this ugly process. The firece and loud debate on how to get it done is good.

LOL,
Deadwrestler is dead ignorant. 66 Votes...... Say after me.....Sixty Six Votes!
If you can count you can understand that impeachment in numerically impossible!
FWIW..... Lincoln clearly violated the Constitution during the Civil War when he suspended Habeas Corpus. He was not impeached. Why? Go find out and in the process educate yourself.
Judy...You need to read the history of Constitutional Law before talking about things you don't understand. Constitutional precedent has been set in hundreds of cases that are unconnected to the implementation. It is the principle behind the application of law that sets precedent. The specifics of applying a law are not nearly as important as the legal principle its based on. Your opinion is based on ignorance of the history of Constitutional Law and precedent.

Thats a bit harsh isn't it? The spirited debate signals that people are simply tired as business as usual. It is good for the country. Over many years the spending, the greasing of palms with tax payer money has come to this. No bid contracts, contractors hired to do jobs that never get done with the Government doing very little c to see if they are getting their moneys worth.
No one begrudges any man or woman unable to feed or get medical attention for themselves but as at the top there are many at the bottom sucking the system dry.
The social security system, decalred safe by Harry Reid has over two trillion in IOU's in it from the federal government. Where did that money go? Did it pay for votes by way of juicy contracts, did someone steal it?
Over the years many people have been critisized for taking a stance for what they believe in. Where would we be had some of this not have happened?

Boloney! The President has no choice, and it is my understanding that President Truman had to resort to the exact same measures. I am looking for that case, but suffice it to say that the Tea Party Neo Nazis have made it abundantly clear that they will follow their King, Rush Limbaugh, who already has ordained failure for our President, even at the expense of our national welfare and security. Political and Economic terrorism is being practised by these Neo Nazi stooges who have manufactured this "crisis" with the express purpose of defeating our President. Sen, "Mutt" McConnell has already unequivocably declared that the Republican mission is to make President Obama a one term President. I advocate impeachement for McConnell, Rep Boner, "Schindler's List" Kantor, and the rest of these ringleaders who are trying to destroy our great nation. They are traitors and political terrorists who have routinely contaminated policy with the selfish politics of greed. Let's stand behind our President as he does what he was elected to do-LEAD! He must invoke the 14th amendment in order to defeat these traitors to out country.

This president does not want to use the 14th ammendment because he does not want to listen to reps and t.p. people for the next few years. It is there for a reason and the Consitition says he must pay the debts of the country and if this is the way to do it...he should. I would have thrown everyone out of my office last week and used it but he wants to be fair and give the senate and the house the chance to solve this problem as it should be. Howeever, no other president has had to deal with such a group of hateful people before and for me...I would just use it and take the hit and get this off the back of the country.

This debt ceiling is being used to put handcuffs on this president and make him look bad. If I were him I would tell the reps where to go with their plans and only use mine but that is not what he wants. He, like the sensible guy he is...wants compromise...however, the reps. and the tea party do not. The rep. party has learned that selling your soul to the tea party has reprecussions and they are facing them now and will in the future. This is not the rep. party I once knew...they had differences of opinion but in the end, both parties did what was right for the country. In this instance, the tea party is looking to make a name for themselves and don't care how much they hurt middle America. They feel no corporation should pay any taxes only the lower workers should pick up the tab. When I asked one t.p. person, he said corporations will hire more and those people will make up the taxes...he meant the little guy again. That is how they think and with their supporters the Koch Brothers...they are getting what they want for now. I will say pay attention to Wisconsin as the new tea party governor is make a lot of rules favoring the reps by closing dmv stations in dem. areas and opening more in rep. areas to get the i.d. he demands. All the while, the people are organizing and one day...the word RECALL will hit him in the face. You cannot lie to the people like the tea party people did in Wisconsin and not expect the people to stand up. I say...good for them...and for the rest of the states with t,p. crazies...wake up to Wisconsin...pay attention. If it can happen in one state,..it will surely happen elsewhere.
