‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’: DOJ Lawyers Ask Court to Reconsider Order

ABC News' Ariane de Vogue reports:

The legal saga concerning the repeal of the controversial "don't ask, don't tell" military policy continues tonight.

The Obama administration filed papers on Thursday asking a federal appeals court to reconsider an order from last week ruling that DADT was no longer enforceable worldwide.

Even though Congress has passed a law that eventually will repeal DADT, the order from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals called for an immediate halt to the policy.

In court papers, lawyers for the Obama administration argue against an "abrupt " court order putting an end to the policy in favor of an "orderly transition" put in place by the political branches.

The Justice Department lawyers said they expect the military will certify the repeal of the law sometime by the end of July or early August and then there will be a 60-day time period before the law will be taken off the books.

A gay rights group challenging the law has been frustrated with the Obama administration's timeline.

"'Don't ask, don't tell' is an offense to American values that should have been gone long ago,"said R. Clarke Cooper, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, in a statement "It is shameful that a president who has taken credit for opposing the policy is taking extreme measures to keep it on life support."

It’s odd that Obama claims to be LGBT friendly and yet his administration is giving life support to don’t ask don’t tell. You’d think this was the Luke Rankin White House. You know the Ultra Bigot from S.C. that says give them their fair share of time, and then hang ‘em!

This DADT stuff is old and boring.
Enough already, let’s be done with it.

His brain (Obama) is still evolving. He doesn’t know weather he’s coming or going. At one point he is for the Gays, then another he’s not. Then another on DOMA he tells the AG Holder, NOT to defend the Defense of Marriage act, favoring the Gays. He is so wishy washy, and that is why the Country is the way it is now, on his sundial watch. Pity.

Have you ever thought that they may need time to transition and the delay will give them the means to do that? It just amazes me that when people get what they want, they don’t want to wait for implementation. Anytime a law is passed there is a delay before it becomes effective. Before we make comments about it, why not inquire as to why instead of using your opinion or perspective as fact. How about that?

Obama has turned out to be just a copy of Dubya, but with darker skin. I certainly won’t be voting for him again!
