Currently, the government is cutting jobs from the public sector to decrease the deficit but senators and house rep. make $200,000-$160,000/ year. On top of their huge salary, they have great benefits such as free healthcare. I think cutting politician’s paychecks and benefits should be talked about in Congress as a way to cut the deficit. We currently have 53 senators and 435 house reps… if we cut their paychecks in half, we’re saving close to $48,800,000 – $39,040,000 a year. Almost $500 million in 10 years and $1 billion in 20 years.

Footie with all due respect your comments about the “magic surplus” that dems love to talk about from Clinton glosses over one VERY important part. Clinton’s own people(White House Office of Management and Budget) said in 1994 that $200-300 Billion dollar deficits would continue as far as the eye could see. That fall came the Conservative “Contract with America” led by Newt Gingrich. They forced Clinton to remove his budget and resubmit a total of FIVE before Clinton caved in and agreed to the Conservative’s position. They also shut down the government rather than cave in to higher spending. Clinton and the Dems fought them EVERY step of the way!! Now fellow Dems want to hold up Clinton as Great Visionary who led us to the Fiscal Promised Land. How can Dems be this intellectually dishonest on something SO easy to verify??? I guess it is easy when the Liberal Media writes the story and way way too many people form their political opinions from “news” that is at best heavily biased.
DEMS have bankrupted EVERY thing they ever touched. Too bad Conservatives did not pass the Balanced budget Amendment back then. (It lost by ONE vote in the Senate) We could have neutered Obama and the Big Spending Liberals 12 Trillion dollars ago.

No one will spend/invest money under these economic conditions. Google up Steve Wynn rant and see. He is a Billionaire owner of Los Vegas Casinos and more in Macau. By the way he is a BIGTIME Dem supporter and has been for a long time. He tells it like it is. He said that this is the most clueless Administration in decades and by far the most anti-business ever. AND HE IS A DEM!! He is taking his money and his Corporate Headquarters to Macau. Another job loss and tax loss directly attributable to Barack Obama Socialist extraordinaire.
The only question is if we can remove him and his failed policies before it collapses our Free Market System AS OBAMA intends. Read his books he calls for this. Listen to his OWN czars!! Many are self described Socialists. But America is learning in spite of the Liberal Media cover-up. The only question is whether we can do it in time before he collapses the American economy.

Why should the government get more money? They continue to overspend. Giving them more is not going to stop it. How about the “poor” get rid of their cable tv, get off drugs, and stop popping out babies they can’t supposedly afford. If they are truly poor, then they shouldn’t have the money for these things. The problem with society is that everyone thinks they need internet, cable tv, cell phones, etc. None of these are truly a necessity. Our country, even the “poor,” has gotten spoiled. I know there are truly poor people out there. But maybe the problem with some of the “poor” is that their expectations are too high. Why not pay for your basics with your money, and not expect a handout so that you can pay for these other luxuries. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and I didn’t have cable tv. And guess what, I survived! I have a cell phone that is 4 years old. People have called it a “dumb” phone. I am tired of people expecting the best, but not bothering working for it.

Mr Radman…Bush is a perfect example of spending..he was given a surplus and turned it into a 1.5 trillion deficit and caused a recession..this is a perfect example of the spending problem you pointed out. Two unpaid for wars, one we were lied to about and a prescription drug program unpaid for all have been the neucleus of this recession..failing banks under his leadership ..taking away rules for financial spending by the banks..These are all on Bush. This is what this administration was given while Bush was given a surplus….in my book…it is the republicans who are the spenders.

DW Obama already said he would cut some programs…let’s not act dumb. He is interested in getting this solved even if he has to anger his party and has said so. Republicans are jerks because they show more loyalty to a self appointed egotist Norquest rather than show some allegiance to the middle class whoM they seem to feel must always take the hit for any financial woes of this country. Once again, I say look to Wisconsin..buyer’s remorse is already in action. Last nights election of a democrat is the first of many to come and next will be Mr. Walker. The people in several states have seen who the republicans favor and it is not the people but the corporations. How they can say they are the job producers with this jobs condition makes me laugh. WHERE ARE THE JOBS…they got their extension of the Bush tax cuts so WHERE ARE THE JOBS. Stop saying they are not sure of the future..they already have their future with the tax cuts so WHERE ARE THE JOBS Finally the people are standing up and fighting against those who lied to them…republicans who campaigned on jobs and are now laying off teachers, firemen, cops and are taking away perks for the ones they are allowing to stay. Pay atatention…the public is not behind you..republicans..pay attention to Wisconsin…it is only the beginning.
