The point is clear… our country is starving while we spend billions on spaceships that half the time blow-up before they orbit (RIP to those killed in space launches). It’s time to cut back on many government programs not just NASA.

And to address the other part, there is (sometimes) reason to run a deficit in bad times. If you ran a business through this current period and needed to take out a loan, you would understand this.
There’s nothing wrong with running a deficit (if necessary) in bad times, as long as you don’t make it a lifestyle (like Bush and others did).

Noz, you need to take pre-Econ if this is confusing you. We threw MOSTLY away cash with the stimulus… buying shovel ready projects that weren’t shovel ready [run laugh track now].
It is SO basic that I cannot enlighten you if you think this is what Krugman spews. We ran a deficit in WWII for very good reason. We ran a deficit during the Bush years for very bad reason (throwing money away then too).
There is NEVER a good reason to run a deficit in good times. Period. Can you admit to this? Can you agree with Rod and say you “don’t like Bush’s deficit spending when the economy was doing OK”? Can you man (or woman) up?

What are we going to Mars on? Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Cash for Clunkers scrap, and millions of unemployed?
The Industrial America that sent us to the Moon is long gone. The Space Shuttle was a weak last hurrah for the Old Republic and our former industrial power.
We were once an industrial people but, now are a nation of debt-fueled consumers with bad taste and no attention span!
I’ve got bad news for you idiots. America’s manned space program IS OVER! The global elites have no interest in our space program. They want manned space travel done by Russia while they build up China’s space program.
America is a failed state in every way and we’re utterly brainwashed to accept a privatized carnival barker economy. The American Republic has been replaced by a confederation of private power centers and financial warlords. NO WAY IN HELL is our manned space program coming back, let alone to Mars!

Poor Paul Krugman, professor extraordinaire, had a meltdown on his blog the other day, because he thinks Obama should just continue to spend, spend, spend, lalalalalalala (I can’t hear you). . . .
Describing Obama, Krugman states:
“Maybe the president[*] just doesn’t like the kind of people who tell him counterintuitive things, who say that the government is not like a family, that it’s not right for the government to tighten its belt when Americans are tightening theirs, that unemployment is not caused by lack of the right skills. Certainly just about all the people who might have tried to make that argument have left the administration or are leaving soon.”
Those who can, do, Professor Krugman. If your assessment of President Obama is even partially correct, perhaps there *is* hope yet.
[*] Gee, imagine that Krugman doesn’t know, or follow, the rules of capitalization. Shows how smart he is, eh? (I know, in a counterintuitive sort of way, he’s brilliant. Sike.)
