Top Democrat on House Budget Committee Still Ruling Out Medicare Benefits

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl (@jonkarl) reports:It’s not just Republicans who have taken a my-way-or-the-highway position in the effort to strike a deal to raise the debt ceiling.

Democrats in Congress have been just as firm in refusing any cuts to Medicare benefits as Republicans have been in refusing any tax increases.

Case in point:  Representative Chris Van Hollen’s interview on ABC News’ Top Line today.   At first, Van Hollen suggests it is Republicans who have taken a no-compromise position, but it quickly becomes apparent than when it comes to Medicare benefits, which are arguably the biggest driver of the skyrocketing federal debt, Democrats in the House are unwilling to accept any cuts.
