@MaxPayne:
There are a couple reasons why Irene won't be the disaster Katrina was.
1. Irene isn't headed toward any major city that's below sea level (that I know of).
2. Cities are generally Democrat strongholds and they'll do whatever they can to avoid making Obama look bad.

This guy is just working overtime to not get reelected. This storm could make Katrina look like a summer shower and the POTUS has no plans to return to Washington DC early from his vacation.
Unbelieveable! The very sight of him on vacation while the east coast gets hammered looks very bad. So what is he going to do if he stays on vacation? Play golf in the middle of a raging hurricane?

Keep in mind that whenever the President leaves the island, the airports he's going in and out of are shut down for hours during his pass-through.
If he decides to leave right before the hurricane hits, the airports at Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod are going to be inoperable to all other air traffic right when those airports are trying to squeeze in as many arrivals and departures as they can ahead of the storm.
His best bet is to either leave now, or ride it out on the island.
