ABC News’ Arlette Saenz (@arlettesaenz) reports:
So where was Texas Governor Rick Perry when the news broke that he’s officially running for president? Perry was at the ABC Austin affiliate KVUE taping a two-way with a New Hampshire news station.
When he emerged in the newsroom, a reporter asked him about the AP wire announcing his candidacy. When he was shown a printout of the AP story, Perry proceeded to sign and date it in all capital letters.
Perry will make his candidacy official in a speech at the RedState Gathering in Charleston, South Carolina Saturday before setting off to New Hampshire and Iowa to round out the weekend.
The announcement of Perry’s entrance into the race came hours before his rivals participate in a debate in Iowa.
