ABC News’ Emily Friedman (@EmilyABC) reports:

Romney’s campaign manager Matt Rhoades isn’t letting go of today’s Politico article – the one in which aides to President Obama reportedly said the president’s re-election campaign will focus on a “ferocious personal assault” on Romney – before he tries to capitalize off of it.

In a new e-mail blast to supporters this evening Rhoades asks supporters to donate money to the Romney campaign in light of the article, explaining to supporters that their help is needed more than ever as the Obama campaign plans to “negatively portray Mitt because he stands as their greatest threat.”

Rhoades writes, “It's disgraceful that the President's campaign has launched his re-election with the stated goal to ‘kill’ his opponent with an onslaught of negative and personal attacks.”

“President Obama will say and do desperate things to hold onto power because he knows he has failed,” said Rhoades.

“The country can't afford four more years of failure.  We need your support today.   Please help spread Mitt's message by donating $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can,” he adds.
