PRESIDENT OBAMA AND LIBYA:
The New York Times’ Mark Landler: “For Obama, a Moment to Savor, if Briefly” President Obama was a reluctant warrior in Libya, drawn into the rebel uprising over the warnings of his Pentagon chief and his own qualms about getting the United States entangled in yet another war in the Muslim world. LINK
The Washington Times’ Kara Rowland: “Obama promises help to post-Gadhafi Libya” President Obama’s decision to commit American forces to Libya appears to have helped oust the regime of Col. Moammar Gadhafi, but the second-guessing is unlikely to end as attention turns to the rebel forces and what role the U.S. will play in shaping a new government or keeping the peace. LINK
The Hills’ Ian Swanson: “Obama hails Gadhafi's end after enduring lawmakers' criticism” The fall of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi after a NATO bombing campaign and a six-month civil war would represent a significant foreign policy victory for President Obama. Despite opposition and heavy criticism from lawmakers in both parties, Obama authorized U.S. forces to back up the NATO mission without seeking authorization from Congress.

The Boston Globe's Donovan Slack: "Obama vows aid, warns against reprisals" President Obama said yesterday the United States is prepared to aid Libyan rebel forces in a peaceful transition to democracy, and he urged opposition forces to refrain from reprisals that could undermine the rapid advances that drove strongman Moammar Khadafy into hiding. “Your courage and character have been unbreakable in the face of a tyrant,’’ said the president, who spoke from the lawn of his Martha’s Vineyard vacation compound, Blue Heron Farm, and directed his remarks to Libyans. “The Libya that you deserve is within your reach. Los Angeles Times’ Maeve Reston: “Events in Libya shake up presidential politics” Though gunfights continued in the streets of Tripoli and Moammar Kadafi’s whereabouts were unknown, the debate had already begun in political circles Monday about whether the crumbling of the Kadafi regime was a victory for President Obama. Obama has shouldered criticism for months from Republican rivals, as well as members of his own party, about the cost of the mission and his decision to commit U.S. Military resources without congressional approval LINK
THE GOP AND LIBYA:
USA Todays’ Jackie Kucinich: “GOP presidential candidates weigh in on Libya's future” Republican presidential contenders welcomed the impending fall of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi on Monday and expressed hope that a new government would embrace the tenets of a free society, but most avoided any mention of President Obama or the role he played in the conflict. Texas Gov. Rick Perry said the end of Gadhafi's reign "is cause for cautious celebration." LINK
Politico's Alexander Burns: "On Libya Revolution, GOP candidates duck and cover" It’s the 2012 Republican field’s first real moment in the foreign policy spotlight — the dilemma over how to respond to the apparent success of President Barack Obama’s intervention in Libya. So far, the strategy for nearly all the candidates is: don’t. For the most part, the GOP has offered only a slow and muted response to the collapse of Muammar Qadhafi’s regime, which seems to spell the end of a dictator who has plagued the United States for decades. 2012 ELECTIONS:
ABC News’ Devin Dwyer: “Obama in Dead Heat with Romney, Perry, Paul, Bachmann in Gallup Poll” President Obama is in a statistical dead heat when matched with each of four GOP presidential contenders in a hypothetical 2012 election match-up, according to a new Gallup survey of registered voters. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads Obama by a 48 percent to 46 percent margin, while Texas Gov. Rick Perry ties the president at 47 percent. Obama bests Ron Paul by a 47-45 divide and Michele Bachmann by 48-44 split. All results are within a 4-point margin of error. LINK
New York Daily News’ Kenneth Lovett and Alison Gendar: “Former Gov. George Pataki close to entering Republican presidential race” He's pro-choice, pro-union and pro-gay rights, so former Gov. George Pataki's plan to possibly join the red-meat pack vying for the GOP presidential nod drew puzzled looks Sunday. Those close to the three-term former governor said he was expected to enter the race for President, though no date has been set. LINK
OTHER:
The Wall Street Journal's: Charles Levinson: "Fighting Flares in Tense Tripoli" A nervous limbo, punctuated by gunfire, took hold of Libya's capital Monday, one day after opponents of Col. Moammar Gadhafi rolled triumphantly into the central square here—damping hopes by rebels and their international allies that the strongman's supporters would melt away. Machine-gun and antiaircraft fire could be heard throughout the day in Tripoli, as residents said loyalist gunmen had taken up positions in several neighborhoods. Rebels who attempted to turn an old police academy into their military headquarters quickly came under heavy fire, sending a stream of casualties to a makeshift clinic. LINK
The Washington Post’s Nia-Malika Henderson: “Water talks tough on tea party” Rep. Maxine Waters has four words for the tea party: Go straight to hell. At a community summit on Saturday, the California Democrat, who has been increasingly critical of President Obama, as well, had tough words for the other side. LINK
