ABC News’ Mary Bruce (@marykbruce) Reports:
The morning after a blowout birthday-themed fundraiser in Chicago, the president will ring in his 50th year at the White House today.
Last night, the president joked about hitting the half-century mark to a packed house at the Aragon ballroom.
“It’s true that I turn 50 tomorrow, which means that by the time I wake up I’ll have an email from AARP asking me to call President Obama and tell him to protect Medicare,” he said.
The president has a clear public schedule today, but there are birthday celebrations in the works. The White House staff will toast the president in a midday gathering in the Blue Room. In the evening, a dinner party is planned for family and friends, including some from Chicago. First daughter Malia is also coming home from summer camp today to celebrate her father’s big birthday.
