Although I am not a Bachman fan...I think she and others were kind of second players to Perry and Romney. Why were they the first to be asked the questions instead of alternating making everyone be equal. I was displeased at the handling of the questions. It seemed to me they really were only interested in what Perry and Romney had to say. I hope the next one...they do not play to the same two as like it or not...there are others running and they deserve a chance to be selected first. It makes the audience feel that only Perry and Romney have something important to say when that is not true. Actually Ron Paul got Perry with a sharp criticism regarding the mandating of injections to children and making it a mandate for all. This is odd coming from Perry who always says too much government and yet he made it a law to get these injections no matter what the parents felt. This is a little of too much government to me. Funny how that goes....Perry.

"Oddly Subdued"? I felt like she really performed poorly. She gained no ground with me last night. Paul and Huntsman didn't either. Perry gained the most points and part of that was due to Romney speaking on behalf of Texas and of many of Perry's achievements. He did criticize Perry and rightly so as well. I liked Santorum, but he always looked like a light was shining in his eyes or something. Something looked liked it was really disturbing him and he always had some distorted look on his face while listening to questions. Cain was pretty good too and I liked his 999 proposal. Paul said some interesting things and then some I can't go with at all.

The only reason people like Bachmann or Palin have a voice at all is because the media loves to post stories about their "outrageous" comments because it generate click thru revenue - people on CNN complain that Palin is always on there well stop clicking on the stories!. I agree with the above poster Huntsman is the best of the GOP but will probably not get the nod. Yes Perry is Bush II ...how quickly people forget - and this jobs thing is getting old - everytime the MSM interviews someone out of a job they seem to me to be someone un-hirable even in the best of times - no degree, no skills, I mean gimme a break

They conducted themselves well last night, Romney and Huntsman seem pretty good, actually Cain put out some solid ideas, am not totally keen on except the lowering the corporate tax to 9% seems logical, Paul is little out there. However, Romney and Huntsman will probably not win the republican nom. Sorry but Perry seems like Bush part 2. Bachmann is a tea party darling, most Americans don't won't their policies, we saw a taste of that with the downgrade, the majority of Americans are not that stupid, they realize they played a big part of issue of the debt debacle causing our first ever downgrade, and as S&P report has written, we need to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire.

MST-MAC, the only thing that will keep Bachmann out of office is her own speeches. I remember first hearing about her in the Caucus (running against a really good state rep named Phil Krinkie). This guy got up and said he had met Bachmann and you just have to select her. He said if you could here her speak it's amazing. He went on and on about her. The only thing I find amazing is how she mesmerizes so many. He swayed over 90% of the people in that room to back her (that basically put her on the ballot). It's been interesting to watch her. Sometimes she has good ideas and sometimes it's like what????

I truly believe she -MB- does not have a valid plan at all to create jobs or run th USA. Her only goal-as well as the others- are to bash the current president. I thought that a true debate was an agrument over logical topics- not an opportunity to show your incompetence by shying away from the current topic(s) or questions asked by trying to make someone whose job you are trying to gain look bad. The president will not be at any type of debate until around this time next year so why are you bringing him up at all!? The republican debate should have been between the republicans and that's it. IMO, I sincerely believe the majority of the GOP has set aside this propaganda from DAY ONE to make the president's term the worse in history (although that is not working). Whatever it takes, huh? Even at the hands of the American people!? You really wonder why he would not meet with Boehner and Cantor!?.... because he has tried numerous of times to consult and be bi-partisian and now it's making him look weak and he's tired and fed up. While the GOP crybabys are being stubborn to attempt to get anything done for the people. It's making the enitre party look like fools, seriously.

She was a minor distraction. I agree with the poster who said the GOP will never elect a woman candidate. The race is going to be between Perry and Romney, both of whom are not fit to be president. They "played" last night, bantering back and forth about who is better than whom. I think they'll be on the ticket together. Ron Paul is not presidential looking enough and John Huntsman, or is it Jon Huntsman, has some good ideas but he isn't cut throat enough to drown out those two loud mouths. Talk about ying and yang ... Romney's from the North and Perry is from the South. I don't like Perry's "I'm your best bud, let's have a beer" attitude. He's so fake! Romney looks like a robot. His hair never moves!

BTW, the reason Bachmann got a bump is because she won in Ames - and that got her media play.

After that, the media just went back to their self-determined favorites, and those people have got a bump from the media play.

We won't get a chance to see another candidate, until the next poll - the winner will get media play - and a bump in the polls.

Eventually though, the winners end up being the winners from before - so the media is smart, by hyping their candidates between polls - eventually one of their favorites will also be the candidate that wins the next poll - and it all harmonizes, and one of their acceptable candidates ends up winning.

It looks like the media has laid out Romney or Perry for peanut gallery to choose from - take your pick, as long as its one of those two, you can have either one of them.

Reminds me of Obama/Clinton - Democratic voters were presented a choice between one of the two media favorites, it wasn't they just selected one and only one person for you to choose.

Lets face it the media is on auto-pilot. You anointed Romney and Perry as the top tier candidates, and until you stop doing that - they'll keep getting play in the media, and that will keep giving people the perception that they are the top tier candidates.

It's circular - not a big circle either. Pretty tight loop.

I support Ron Paul. It doesn't matter who you call the top tier candidate, Ron Paul is getting my vote
