Amusingly, after this has been proven false, Bill O’Reilley insisted on repeating the $16 muffin claim on Letterman tonight. I guess it still makes a good story if you’re looking to criticize the administration, even if it’s been proven false.

Now, and probably then, a Fed staying at the Capital Hilton would get a free breakfast with their room. Of course, it would not be subtracted from their per diem either.

Alas…reason prevails…it is unfortunate that this auditor still “sticks to their interpretation”…it is so much easier to admit that documents we not researched well, than to create havoc for so many competent people, who really know what they are doing and handle meetings within the government in a highly competent and professional manner. with 40 years of Hotel experience, I know of no-one that we have ever worked with within the Government that would ever accept such a brazen expenditure. I am glad that there is some clarity and hope this spreads as well as the original unfounded story, but it is doubtful as truth is never as exciting as fiction.

Hilton is not the problem here,it’s the govt. morons running the conferences. If Hilton wants to charge exorbitant prices for their goods and services, no problem. There’s always other options if you don’t like the cost. I guess it never occurred to the people hosting the conference that they could’ve made a run to Costco and purchased soft drinks and boxes of muffins for about 5% of what Hilton charged. And if Hiltion has a “no outside food and beverage” policy, then go find another location for your conference.

I would seriously question the value of these conferences anyway. I’m betting this whole thing is just an excuse to take a little vacation on the govt. dime.

Why is the Govt paying for food? It is not covered by the incidentials when travel cliams are submitted? That how it works for my the past 40 years. Seems like a gift that the Govt is paying. The JFTR has rules on these things no one is referencing.
And the Govt is not using it’s tax exception?? Is it just floating a loan to the hotel??

So the next question is….were all those conferees given per diem for breakfast each day? If breakfast was provided, the attendees should not have received per diem for that meal each day and shoudl nto have claimed it on their travel voucher.
