Ron Paul Is Still Raising Big Money, But Just Who Is Giving?
Presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul is still raising big amounts of cash online.
Just this past week, the campaign raised more than $1 million through the use of “moneybombs” or one-day cash grabs.
The Sept. 17 moneybomb corresponded with the 224th anniversary of the creation of the United States Constitution.
Paul’s fundraising frenzies helped him pull in about $4.5 million as of June 30.
Among his GOP colleagues, only Mitt Romney raised more than Paul, R-Texas.
The Paul campaign said that most of the money from the latest Constitution Day moneybomb came from small donors contributing less than $200.
According to The Center for Responsive Politics, a non-partisan non-profit research group dedicated to tracking money in U.S. politics, small-dollar donations made up about half of Paul’s total donations for the period.
In fact, those $200-or-less donations added up to $2.26 million – the largest total amount among his GOP colleagues.
CRP broke down the numbers further and found that of the top 10 biggest individual contributions; three were associated with a branch of the military.
In fact, Paul’s non-interventionist philosophy helped him raise $32,089 among those who identify their employer as the U.S. military, the biggest total among his GOP colleagues.
Outside of the military, some of Paul’s biggest donations came from the financial and communications sectors.
Employees of Google, Entergy Corporation, and Lockheed Martin are some of the top companies whose employees have backed Paul. Paul currently sits on several financial services and foreign affairs committees.

“Paul’s non-interventionist philosophy ” THANK YOU!!!! Finally a journalist that gets Paul right, instead of the isolationist label falsely given to Paul all the time by demagogues.

Care to cite your source that he received large amounts of money from the financial and communications sectors ?
We all know that Perry is in the pockets of Merck and soon to be B of A, and that Romney got $250,000K from Government – Sachs.
The average contribution to Ron Paul’s latest money bomb was between $50 – 60 dollars.

I gave Dr. Paul $25 on Sept 17th. It is all I could give at the time, but its $25 more than what Romney and the other super-wealthy self-loving oligarch candidates will get from me!

He needs to raise another $1.5 mil by 9/30-so let’s keep giving as much as we are able, and spread the word!

I encourage Democrats and others who voted for Obama (for the right reasons) register Republican to vote for Ron Paul in the 2012 primary, that is if your state requires it. Congressman Paul is the most principled public servant of our time.

Mr. Volak – I commend you on this piece of news. You are a rarity among reporters. I wish I could shake your hand, good sir!

Don’t worry Scott. It’s confusing the way they report the information. It doesn’t mean that the money came from financial and communication companies themselves. It’s just that when you donate over $200, you are required to provide details about yourself. And part of that, you can list your employer. So what is being reported here is that a large proportion was from people who happen to work in the financial and communications industries. They are still individual donors. It’s exactly the same as the people who listed their employer as the U.S. Military.

Ron Paul has earned my respect, my continuing donations, and my vote. RON PAUL 2012!

@ Joe ,
I forgot about that line when I donated! But yeah…it’s nice to see what could be considered a highly misleading way of reporting to match his headline.

Thank you for this article.
Paul is the only one who will stop these ceaseless wars. Every other candidate has doubled down on more land and air wars in Asia and Africa. We can’t afford it, we are losing too many of our best men and women, and our military involvement there is only leading to more wars.

I simply want to re-iterate what others have said. THANK YOU for correctly describing Ron Paul’s foreign policy as “NON-INTERVENTIONIST” rather than the erroneous or deliberately misleading “isolationist.” It is truly a refreshing change from the reporting of so many dullards, fools, and worse.

Actually, Ron Paul receives more contributions from active military personnel than all the other GOP candidates combined. More than Mr. Obama, too.

This whole election boils down to The Status Quo versus Ron Paul. You want the status quo? Vote for anyone other than Ron Paul, it won’t make any difference which one you choose. If you’d like to get the change you wanted, and the change the country needs then Front Runner Ron Paul is your only real choice. I’m poor but Front Runner Ron Paul get whatever little bucks I can scrape up.

I think people do not want the status quo media pick. All you have to do is look at where the media picks have gotten us.

As a people, many are tired of being told what to think by blue pill media. Ron Paul thinks for himself, and is honest about our situation. Between our 14.5 trillion dollar deficit and the fed squandering another $16 trillion, you would think it’s time to finally listen to and follow the Chairman of domestic monetary (money) Policy. My own contributions are right at 10% of the legal limit for personal contributions, and I for one intend to take my personal limit to the maximum allowable over the course of this year. I do not believe corporations or private interests represent the interests of the people, nor does the very media I am posting on. With few exceptions, what the media presents as front runner in my mind represents more about what NOT to vote for, and consequently, for their sponsors, what products NOT to buy.

Who is giving? People like me, who don’t have much but give anyway because we know who will fix the U.S. I gave a very small amount, but all these small amounts add up to something very big :D

I am 42 I have six children and own and operate a small tourist based business in northern minnesota our winters are long here and our income stream slackens to a trickle during the winter months so what we put away during summer is vital for us to make it through to may but this year i am cutting it closer than usual to support r.p. because i see him and his message as the only one being put forth in the political market today that can deliver to my children the blessings of liberty and the dignity that accompanies it.

Ron Paul is having his end of quarter fundraising push today, please support him on his website. Since he doesn’t take the bribes from the mega cooperations every little bit helps!

Our only REAL chance at change for the better IS Ron Paul, which is why he receives all these donations from “the little people”, like me. That is because he is REAL, and the rest of the candidates in either party are just a bunch of self serving empty suits. Ron Paul 2012!!!

I too am very pleased to see someone report on Dr. Paul. Thank you very much Mr, Volack.

Dr. Paul has identified the root of all the problems with our economy, and also that of the rest of the world. The bankers, and the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank. He is the only one running for president who seems to understand these problems. He’s got my vote!!
