The payroll tax cuts should be allowed to expire. They are threatening the future of Social Security, and there’s actually no good reason to cut taxes for those who actually have jobs.

For your “edumacation” there Common_Sense, the OFF-BUDGET side of the federal budget, i.e., that side that pay roll tax revenue originally goes in to, has been borrowed FROM for the last 26 years. And, 14 of those 26 years (i.e., more than half of that borrowing) occurred while Republicans were in control of the government. Just to be EXACT… LOL!… Republicans borrowed from “pay roll tax revenue” (the OFF-BUDGET side of the federal budget) in the following amounts during the specified years:

1985 and 1986 (Ronald Reagan and a Republican Senate), borrowed the following amounts from the OFF-BUDGET side of the federal budget (i.e., Social Security Payroll Revenue):
1985 = $ 9,222,000,000 borrowed
1986 = $16,688,000,000 borrowed
TOTAL BORROWED BY REPUBLICANS = $25.9 Billion

1995 to 2000 (Republican Senate and Republican House), borrowed the following amounts from the OFF-BUDGET side of the federal budget (i.e., Social Security Payroll Revenue):
1995 = $ 62,415,000,000 borrowed
1996 = $ 66,588,000,000 borrowed
1997 = $ 81,364,000,000 borrowed

Spending cuts and austerity certainly don’t work. These policies have reduced Germany’s economic growth to about a tenth of a percent, and other nations who have implemented these policies are seeing their debt to GDP continue to grow instead of fall, while investors are fleeing. These policies do not work.
