You don't know what you're talking about. The AWB was full of technical issues, and you're trying to make a political point by ignoring the facts that:

1. the law didn't ban guns, but only some cosmetic features found on guns such as flash hiders and bayonet lugs.

2. the law didn't ban the posession of standard-capacity magazines, but by banning future production of them, slightly increased their retail price. Almost every AK47 magazine in the US comes from places like eastern europe and china, so banning their domestic production was virtually meaningless if all an importer had to do was fabricate a document stating that the magazines he wanted to import were made before 9/1994.

3. There's a world of difference between stating that lawful citizens of the United States have the right to own firearms, which is my argument, and actively supressing the law in order to assist Mexican drug cartels in the acquisition of firearms, which appears to be the ATF's mission.

If your intent is to help "the police in our big cities who have to deal with gangs and drug dealers, then you should get rid of the Democrats who have run almost every big city into the ground.

Show me a city in turmoil and I'll show you an experiment in liberal mis-management that's been run by Democrats for decades -but keep thinking that, if only a gun ban were enacted nationwide, places like Detroit would be utopia.

afam6nr, The United States is not a democracy, it is a republic. A republic is where the people elect representatives who then perform the work of running the government. A democracy exists only when the people vote on each piece of legislation that is brought up in the legislature. American Idol is a democracy, the United States of America is a republic. Furthermore to say that the election results of 2008 are he be all and end all until 2012 is intellectually dishonest and shows a distinct lack of understanding of how the U.S. system works. The American people were given an opportunity to vote to change the power structure in 2010 and by a wide margin they voted to switch direction from the path that the president was on. The Democratic party had unstoppable majorities in the House and Senate prior to 2010, and the people voted in the largest House freshman class in history and voted to give the Republicans a sizable minority in the Senate as well.

In the United States we do not have a ruling party; that was the whole reason that we established the three tier system of chacks and balances. The president is not a king and the Congress is not intended to be a rubber stamp. There were no complaints from individuals like you when Harry Ried and the Democrat minority in the Senate during the Bush administration set the precident for using the filibuster to stop every bill.

pksk531: The filibuster rule was changed to 2/3 of the Senate in 1975, not 2005. It was the Democrats who changed it so they could block Republicans out of the debate. This little factoid can be found both on the Senate's own website and on Wikipedia. Please do your research before spouting off about things you do not understand.

I find it extremely difficult to understand the Republican House Leadership and Members, particularly, when they don't pass the Bills brought by the Ruling Party, subject Americans to torture and, then keep talking about "resolving differences".

Are there two Executive Governments running the affairs of the United States?

The program of the Party that formed the Government is the choice the Country made at the ballot box in November 2008.

So, I don't understand the "differences" the Republicans are talking about. The Executive Government of the United States was not sworn-in as a Bi-parttisan Government in January 2009.

Unless the Republican Leaders are implying that they hardly understand what Democracy means.

That may explain why the positive public opinion about the U.S. House of Rep, ias led by the Republican Party, s only a paltry 9%

Posted by: justayreal ----What is fair is a point of view. They pay the vast majority of taxes per the IRS's own numbers. Nothing in the constitution guarantees you to fair, there is no right to fairness, because fairness cannot be defined, what is fair is different from one person to the next. The top 1% got a bailout, against the wishes of the vast majority for the voters, TARP Failed the first vote, remember that, it was only after the president, the fed, the treasury and congressmen played chicken little, did it pass, and it passed because of fear and ignorance, not because of an informed decision, 75% of Americans are financially illiterate, and have never taken Micro or Macro Economics, Finance and Accounting, Most Americans have no idea that a dollar today is worth nothing, it is only worth anything because it is the world reserve currency and that too is on shaky ground. Most Americans cannot visualize a trillion dollars to say nothing of 10 or 100 trillion, they have no concept of what a trillion anything is. What is greed, it too like fairness is ill defined it can't be it is subjective, most Americans are greedy it is an unsavory fact but a fact none the less, greed was naturally selected for, greedy people made it through famines and droughts, greedy people saved more than they needed, on the chance that in the future they would need more than they could get. You and I will never get our tax money back, all we can do is stop them from taking more today and in the future. The bailouts were a pittance, compared to what we have spent on the new deal and the great society, neither of which have improved the lives of Americans when taken on the whole, taking from one person and giving to another, especially without their consent, is not the best way to run a society, and that is the way we have codified our society.

SNEWSOM you got it all wrong...what the people on the left want is fairness. We want the rich to pay their fair share...big corporation took a bail out from tax payers money when in fact that money should've went to the tax payers, especially the ones that are out of jobs...Why don't you get that? It's corporate greed that caused this economy to fail and they deserve nothing more than what I get. What we want is our tax money back. The big corporations should have failed. I don't want a hand out. Also please keep in mind that it's the little guy that's going out and buying cars and flat screen tv's.

Posted by: s----Not eliminate all striving, eliminate care from economic worries, health worries, job worries, education worries, home ownership worries, basically eliminate worrying about life.
That is what the left wants, and they will bankrupt us all to get it.

Posted by: tmferretti---The drug dealers are using fully automatic versions, which are prohibited for sale to anyone without a Class III License. You just can't go in and buy a fully automatic AK, M-14, or M4 without a 6 month background check, by the FBI, and the ATF, along with permission of your police chief and a spotless criminal record. More gun laws will not affect the number of illegal guns at all. They had criminals and nut jobs when the founders were around, your right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Once you have done your time you have paid your debt to society, there should be no limitations on anything you do afterwards, commit a crime again and pay twice the price, etc.

searambler...wealth redistribution a Republican aim! Get off the crack pipe. That's hilarious. One of your best, ever! Who are the net takers/parasites (users of government programs, paid for mostly by those evil "rich" people) in the USA? If imposing special taxes on people who have worked their entire lives to achieve beyond the norm isn't wealth distribution (not to mention Obamacare), I don't know what is. You'd do much better in Greece, Spain, Italy or the old East Germany. You'd love it there. The US wouldn't be the US if our freedom wasn't formed in competition. You want to eliminate all striving. Sad.

SNEWSOME2997

I think hunters and people who want to protect their home should have the right to buy a rifle or handgun. I don't think any 16 year old with a fake ID should have access to an AK47. You say

"Crime is rarely committed with assault weapons, people are not running around with Semi Automatic M4′s, M-14′s, AK’s and committing Crime" Tell this to the police in our big cities who have to deal with gangs and drug dealers who "do" have these weapons.

The founders were afraid of a large standing army. The purpose of the 2nd amendment was to allow the states to have armories or other storage facilities to store weapons that people could use in case of war. They would never be so stupid to allow assault weapons to be put in the hands of criminals or anyone else. If anything they had some common sense.
