When I moved to the south (from a Northern state that had not yet been admitted to the Union during the civil war), I was commonly asked two questions by Southern gentlemen: “Are you a Yankee?” and “What church do you belong to?” When my husband paid a black worker more than the going rate, a cross was burned on the front door.

There still are people in the South who live in the past. The closest they should get to the White House is as a tourist.

I kind of agree with you CND Fox….many southerners are still living in the past. I understand they want to cling to their heritage…but this part of there heritage is nothing to be proud of and should be put to rest. However, since we now have a black president…I see much of it coming to the surface again in many ways. Coming from the north…I guess I have a different prespective but since I moved south…I can see that many have not given us on their prejudices after all this time. Much of the tea party is included in this and since they have become more powerful…our country has become more divided. I laugh when they bring up the Constitution as if others are not aware of it, however, it seems that they are the only ones to want to change it. Perry has at least 7 things he wants to change and I can only guess where we will end up if a tea party person gets in charge. We will go back 20 years and have to fight for personal integerity once again. If the republicans think holding up everything because it was suggested by President Obama who they have blocked each and everything he has suggested…they are so wrong. In fact, it is they who are keeping the recession from recovering just to keep a black president down. Like it or not..that is actually what is going on here and Mc Connell has loudly announced what he wants…to keep president Obama a one term president. Has he been the best..No…has he made mistakes…Yes….however, the alternative is not a good one. Already in the states where rep. have won, women have lost rights, unions, voting rights have been changed and there is much more to come should a rep. or tea party person get in. Goodby soc. sec…goodby medicare and medicade as we know it…goodby unemployment benefits…hello bigotry and racism once again.

And this my friends is a PERFECT DOCUMENTED EXAMPLE of why these ‘southern gentlemen’ (LOL…LOL) need to be voted out of government and sent back to a ‘PAST’ ….where they belong. Then…maybe our nation can move forward and become stronger again. These ‘gentlemen’ are beyond ‘culturally obtuse’. They ARE the problem.

BTW – there IS no excuse for 19th century, pre-civil rights behavior IN the South or anyplace else. Sorry – this is a BAD excuse for racism. But since Mr. Cain obviously thinks it is un-American to protest – I can see where you would be confused. I am now of the mind that ALL Republicans are nothing less than racists and it is NOW coming to the fore – in public for once and all. When you become a repulican do you leave your humanity at the door – so you can keep all your dollars?

Dear “CONY007″ – since ALL of education in the US has been de-funded and we are now faced with creating an entire class of uneducated citzens for the future – what do you mean – fight for the Children. IF anyone cared about the “future of the Children” we would NOT have immediately fired and laid off all of those educators, put our kids in HUGE classes and even if they can manage to graduate – create an economic boondoogle where NON of them will be able to attain a college education. Sorry – but I don’t buy any of this – NO ONE REALLY cares about the children! Because ACTIONS speak louder than words. And I can certainly believe, after talking to so many, including my OWN neices and nephews – they ARE NOT being educated.
