Romney’s First Ad – Genius or Blunder- It’s either a taste of the general election or a diversion into Mitt Romney’s dream world. But the deliberately misleading quote of 2008 Obama in Romney’s first TV ad of the year has caused fact-checkers’ eyes to cross. The full story on how Romney’s ad, which Politifact rated a full “pants on fire” misquotes Obama: http://abcn.ws/thGkl3

The Real Question – Given how easily Mitt Romney can ding President Obama on the economy, why resort to a distortion of Obama’s words? There is the idea that now people are talking about it and it will get a free airing on TV news. But the flip side is that the argument the Romney campaign is trying to make is not extremely simple.

Amy Walter points out: This ad is a dog whistle to GOP base that he’s tough enough for a general election. Remember, one of the concerns among some Republican voters is that he’s not tough enough to beat Obama. His message: yeah I can play this game.

Musical Protest - “Lyin’ A$$ B*tch” – From Russell Goldman: “As Michele Bachmann walked across the stage to sit next to Fallon for the show that aired Monday night, house band the Roots played a refrain from the Fishbone song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch.” Though the lyrics refer to a woman as a “slut trash can bitch,” the band only sang the “la, la, la” of the refrain. http://abcn.ws/uVheXZ

Debate Primer - From Matt Jaffe:  Only a few blocks from the White House, where the GOP candidates hope to reside come 2013, the debaters at Constitutional Hall are likely to talk about U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, the use of torture and the European debt crisis. Immigration, which has already generated some heated exchanges in this campaign, such as Mitt Romney’s feud with Rick Perry last month in Las Vegas, will likely be another hot-button topic. http://abcn.ws/v8HaM9

Occupy Protests Obama –  From Mary Bruce: The protesters were quickly countered by students, chanting “Obama, Obama!” and several minutes of arguing back and forth ensued. After listening briefly, the President asked the group to quiet down. “I’m going to be talking about a whole range of things today and I appreciate you guys making your point. Let me go ahead and make mine… I’ll listen to you and you listen to me,” Obama said. h ttp://abcn.ws/rvRI2G

Unfinished Business (Payroll Tax Cut, Unemployment, more) - Amy Bingham reports: “Now that the 12-member congressional “supercommittee” has announced its failure to produce an all-encompassing, deficit-reduction package before its Wednesday deadline, the full Congress faces deadlines of its own. Before lawmakers pack up for Christmas, they must first decide whether to extend the payroll tax break and long-term unemployment benefits, both of which expire Dec. 31.” http://abcn.ws/vPCAY8

Superfail Post Mortem from Hensarling –  ”Ultimately, the committee did not succeed because we could not bridge the gap between two dramatically competing visions of the role government should play in a free society, the proper purpose and design of the social safety net, and the fundamentals of job creation and economic growth.”  More from John Parkinson: http://abcn.ws/vMgm2J

Obama Prays GOP Will Agree to Tax Hike - To Al Sharpton “But, you know,…it must be my religious faith, Reverend, ’cause, hope springs eternal and I continue to believe that at some point common sense will prevail and we’ll be able to work something out.” http://abcn.ws/vT3GJe

Perry: Fire Holder - Hours before the second foreign policy debate this campaign season, Rick Perry called for the resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder based on his handling of Operation Fast and Furious. Should Holder refuse to resign, the Texas governor says President Obama should fire him.   http://abcn.ws/tFlRLu
