I thought when Obamao came to power that the “world would like us again” and that U.S. imperialism and agression would cease? How is this presence going to be paid for when defense spending gets slashed in the wake of “Super Committee” failure (as intended by the Libs)?

BTW – I would not be surprised if this is all a ploy by Democrats to enact “spending cuts”… Announcement made to deploy troops to Australia, Obama and Harry Reid will later announce troops will not be deployed (or deployed for a period much less than originally announced) and will then proceed to claim “billions of dollars in savings” in “cost avoidance”… Brilliant, isn’t it?

(for those of you not paying attention, this is approach Democrats are taking towards “spending cuts” within “Super Committee”: Claim billions (trillions?) in “spending cuts” and “savings” over ten year period for the winding down of military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan…By this logic I just “saved” $70,000 by not making a purchase at the BMW dealership I passed on the way to work this morning!!!)

Well said Randy. Its like the cold war again when Russia and Cuba tried to start something and we had certain thingies in Turkey being close to Russia that they didn’t like obviously. So where can China place a base close to us where they can maintain a good supply chain? Unless their boomers kind of make that moot?

Yea, China should be intimidated by 250 Marines, just about any country would be. But if you read the article, the number goes to 2,500 and that’s a very significant Marine Corps presence that would have China concerned.
