This report (the first video) highlights the stimulative effect of the tax cut AND points out only 15% of recipients plan to spend their windfall, while the rest would use it to refill their nest eggs...isn't that double-counting? It can't do both!

Plus, they compare Congressional Republican approval ratings to Obama...shouldn't they be compared to CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS?!

But the worst part of the report is that all of a sudden, the media is pushing for tax cuts. That definitely would not have happened under the previous administration.

So the Republicans want to pass a full year extension of the FICA tax cut instead of two months, and Obama wants us to believe that they are against the tax cut. How, exactly, does that work? If a two month extension is so good, why not the full year? Why don't Democrats want you to keep more of your money for the full year?

howdymo1 | December 20, 2011, 2:41 am ---- SNEAKY? There was a 3 year study done and it was cleared by the Dept of STATE. The GOP told the Senate and the POTUS it would be attached to ensure Obama makes a decision (that's called leadership). If it was cleared by the State Dept, then please explain why Obama himself decided not to press on with the project? ----------------------LARRY FULLER: The millionaires tax was already dropped by the Senate, so that wasn't the issue. Reid is playing his games for Obama's re-election by making sure this issue comes up in 2 months because Obama can't run on his record and this can take center stage. So, in 2 months, is Reid going to add another 2 months? My bet is yes. You should take your partisan blinders off.

What is so important about this pipeline that it just has to be approved right now, this very minute, immediately, sign it without reading it urgency? The sneaky way they included it in with the payroll tax extension makes me very wary about what might be really wrong with the bill. Boehner doesn't want to give people time to at least take a look at the bill and the pros and cons. He wants it right this very minute for some reason. This is why I question the urgency.

People asking why the DEMS only went for a 2 mo extension? Didn't you see the article that the House rejected it because it was to be paid for with a millionaires surtax? I don't agree with the surtax either, that's targeting and isn't enough anyway. End the Bush tax cuts AND close all the loopholes. ALL of them. Only willing to pay my fair share of taxes if everyone else does too. If the get a tax break for their jets I should get one for my VW!

john locke | December 20, 2011, 1:20 am ----- The TPers and GOP want these things paid for and not kick it down the road. They do understand government obligations don't come out of thin air. They simply want 1 year instead of 2 months. What's your point?

demNme5 | December 19, 2011, 2:50 pm ----- Pleeeeease, don't act like the Dems don't add on (ie Obamacare). The pipeline will bring jobs to the US as BOTH parties have stated and yet 1 man, Obama, has decided to block it. This forces Obama to not play politics with the project which is truly shovel ready (unlike Obama's lie). So yes, this forces Obama to put up or shut up. Not even the POTUS should have the power to halt the pipeline since a 3 years study was conducted by the state dept and cleared to press on. Tax breaks and new jobs go hand in hand to fix the economy.

Stuff and nonsense! There's an obligation to social security that must be maintained, so, if we reduce, or eliminate payroll taxes, the difference must be made up in some other way. That being the case, the money must come out of general tax revenues. That means that other government programs, like the defense budget, for example, would have to be tapped to make up the difference.
Pretty straightforward actually. The only people that would have a problem with it are the Tea Partiers who think that government obligations come out of the thin air.

"""""""Last Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a full-year extension to the year-end jobs package before the Senate passed a two-month extension on Saturday. The short-term senate bill passed with broad bipartisan support. """"""" Hey ABC News, can you at least try not to show your bias one of these days? The 1 year extension was also a bipartisan agreement, yet you fail to mention that. We need the 1 year extension and Boehner is finally right on this issue. Harry Reid is worthless.
