Romney handled himself very respectfully and did not disrespect this gentleman. He has a straight question and Romney answered him and did not insult him. Romney is a God-fearing Christian man and the Bible defines what is a marriage that the Lord himself designed. Unfortunately the homosexual lifestyle has existed for thousands of a years and is a worldly lifestyle. We should love the sinner, not the sin. There should be a compromise and the enactment of a Civil Union and a gay couple should be allotted benefits.

Hopefully with the ongoing demographic shifts, both parties will accept that gay rights is here to stay and that LGBT couples deserve the same legal protections as their heterosexual counterparts.

Until that day, both parties manifest opposite positions on gay and civil rights. One is progressive-looking and believes that both societal and institutional discrimination inhibits creativity and free enterprise. The other party does not shy away from using religious and racial reasons to divide American workers in voting against their pocketbook interests.

It's like the Pete Seeger song, "Which side are you?" Elections have consequences and this one could threaten the progress we've made so far.

The point is, marriage is not a term owned exclusively by religion. A lot of people would have you believe that, but straight Americans can go to a judge and get married just as they can a religious leader. The fact that so many federal and state benefits are associated with marriage and the fact that legally through a judge, only a certain part of the country can obtain the services they are paying for through taxes is a big problem. There are clearly rules against religion getting involved in defining law and it's outlined in the Constitution. Certain church leaders have made the issue a religious one and not a legal one. Go to a judge as a gay couple and try to get married and you’re informed that the law forbids it because religious zealots in this country don’t approve. What does that have to do with the law? Fine, the couple is not recognized by the religious institution. That should not prevent the law from recognizing the marriage.

This is why I hate religion.
This isn't abour morals and that's what Christians keep trying to pretend this is about. Alot of Christians compare homosexuality to beastiality or child molestation. What the hell is wrong with those people?
I don't give a damn about what your "holy" book says. Consenting adults can do whatever the hell they want to with other Consenting adults. It's not up to you or your imaginary god. It's up to PEOPLE.

Surely his answer should have been: "I believe marriage is the relationship between a man and SEVERAL women"?

So,,,A man being attracted to a man or woman attracted to a woman, should be recognized as a normal relationship because it is how they feel, they grew up feeling that way...Okay so a 40 year old man who is attracted to a 5 year old boy is normal too? It is NOT normal. Marriage has been defined between a man and a woman before the constitution. Marriage isnt even in the constitution so it can not be compared to slavery, and womens rights and everything else that has been revised because it is in the constitution. Laave the traditional marriage alone. If you want to be different than be different, in your own privacy. You dont need to soil a tradition that is dated before you were born. The biological and anatomical make up of a man and woman explains a lot about what is normal, our genetic makeup tells us that a man and woman are supposed to be attracted to each other. BTW everyone has a right to their religious beliefs and believe it or not most beliefs do not tolerate same sex marriages, they shun the very idea. So Mitt romney believes marriage is between a man and a woman. so what? that is what he believes and he shouldnt be judged by that. Coming from someone who doesnt mind same sex relationships, who has a best friend who is gay, but believes in the traditional marriage, and he respects my beliefs. Our economy is in one of the biggest economic slumps of our time and you are worried about same sex marriage? Really? How about the unemployment? or the rising gas prices? or maybe how you are going to pay for yours or your childs college education? Pretty soon you will be worrying about how you are going to eat or where you will live because all you cared about is the canidate who supported the same sex marriage deal. Lets all just listen to what they have to say about making our econmoy better.

You know why the fact that he is a veteran has to do with this? Mitt Romney would not have sit down at the table to talk to an "Aging Queen" now would he? No, he sat down because he thought it would be a good photo opp to sit with a man who served his country with his life on the line. Ha, ha. Sure stuck it in a live socket did he not? Equal rights is simple, it means sometimes you have to honor rights of those you do not agree with. Talk about facing cold hard facts.

I think marriage is a religious institution and should not be rewarded by the government for anyone, gay or straight. If you wan't to be married under the "Eyes of God" then good for you, but why should this entitle special benefits to married couples?
Joint income, good for you, you should be able to pitch in your share.
Couple of kids, good for you, surely you had the sense to make sure you could afford them before you had them and surely you can pitch in your fair share.
I say end government marriage benefits for ALL married couples and the constitution and the actual "Sanctity" of marriage is protected.
