Monies collected via the Employee Payroll Tax MUST, by law, go straight to the SS & Medicare coffers. The money cannot be taken by anyone, even the great Obama, and thus Obama is able to request that the Payroll Tax break be extended, because it is no skin off his nose as he can't steal it anyway so it is basically useless to him and his buds..

Because the money, if the Payroll Tax cut is not extended, is completely unavailble to him for his union friends to launder and return to him, he is free to claim that he is looking out for the EMPLOYED middle class - which is a blatant lie, because if he were, he would have told his Senate minions to pass one of the (at last count) 15 jobs bills the Republican house has passed. Or at least put one of them on the table for discussion.

Could it be that the Dems are afraid that when the light of day is shown on their lies and pandering, they might not look very good? Nah, that couldn't be it.

If I were to guess, I would guess that since Dems don't want to be able to read a bill before they pass it, they fear any discussion of the jobs bills, because in order to discuss it, they would have to read it. And it probably has some big words in it.

Good for Boehner. He puts the Democrat-controlled Senate in a position to kill a bill that we KNOW will create thousands of jobs. What's worse, is that the president will have no other reason for rejecting it other than to say he said he would reject it. If it addresses the payroll tax and unemployment benefits AND creates jobs, how could the president reject it? He can't hide behind made-up environmental "concerns", all of which have been investigated for years. It's political and anyone with a pulse knows it.

S, I think Obama does not want to be remembered as another Carter although their policies have a lot in common. Maybe that explains why he never stopped campaigning after the 08 election was over.

Forget the tens of thousands of REAL/ACTUAL jobs that would be created by the pipeline, I have to put off this vital decision until after the election because I would offend my liberal environmental activists who oppose the pipeline. Yeah, this president is really worried about jobs. He's worried about his job and none other.

IMO Obamacare as it is now without a major overhaul will be the straw that breaks the camels back. The CBO blew it on medicare. How many trillions has that gone over their projections? I have this problem with the government taking over anything. It always cost ten times more then what they say. It never fails. Small projects turn into a nightmare for these guys, this one will be overwhelming and one comity after the other will have to be created to see what the other comity messed up.

SPECIALTY57

Yes, we probably will still have to pay something for those who can't afford health care, but not nearly as much as we pay today.

Massachusetts has the lowest costs for health care than any state in the nation with more people covered as a percent of the population than any other state. Mitt Romney could have taken some credit for this but he decided to deride his own program in order to get tea party votes

Those 27 states can opt out of it and continue their current system which is bankrupting them. If they're that stupid so be it.

Although they never put anything in writing, the republicans think the doctors should determine our health care system. Doctors are part of the main problem, not the solution. Charging exorbitant fees for a procedure any well trained electronics tech could do and taking kick backs from the insurance industry is not the way to cost reduction.

Canada has a huge reserve of oil and we need it to help us get off of hostile oil from the middle east. Now, how do you get it from Canada to our refineries??? You got it—PIPELINE. Posted by: billy bob | December 8, 2011, 1:53 pm.

LOL! Why don't you idiots on the Right EVER get this right? The oil extracted from the tar sands and sent through this pipeline to the Gulf for refining would end up on the world market. It would NOT go from Canada to the Gulf to your corner gas station. It is a commodity that would go to China or Europe or wherever they can get the best price. It is NOT earmarked for the USA only. All you people clamoring for this pipeline are simply doing the grunt work for TransCanada - a Canadian company - and Big Oil. TransCanada itself said they would only hire between 3500 and 4200 workers for this project, and they did not say they would hire US workers............

Ferretti, Democrats claim ss as an entitlement. Something to make people think they do it all for them. Working people pay for it and it does not belong to the government. As for Obamacare, you will still be paying for anothers HC, through taxes, robbing medicare, or higher rates. Good luck enforcing this law if it is not repealed. 27 states are against such a mess as this. Not even a good place to start as it is useless. Obama should have never signed such a thing but he would have signed anything to say he got HCR no matter how bad it was for his ego purpose. Now the working man is stuck with it.Lets hope the SC repeals it.

BILLY BOB

You forget one thing, the pipeline pipes Canadian oil to the gulf coast refineries. That doesn't mean that the oil will be used exclusively in the USA. Those refineries sell refined oil and gasoline all over the world, including China and the Middle East. Most economists will tell you it will have no effect on the world or our price for gasoline. Even with the pipeline we will still pay approximately $3.50 per gallon.

The key to cheaper oil is the Russians, they have more oil reserves that any nation. The problem is they won’t allow Exxon, Shell or BP run there oil facilities which are state owned. A pipeline from Siberia to Alaska makes much more sense, if we can get the oil companies to lower there profits a little.

Don't let the truffle eaters fool you
