Live Blog: President Obama Delivers State of the Union
ABC News and Yahoo News offer live analysis and commentary of the President’s State of the Union address, which starts at 9 p.m. ET.
President Obama has spent the past three months railing against a “do-nothing Congress,” and tonight he has the opportunity to deliver his message face to face.
President Barack Obama tonight presents an argument for his presidency and a second term with a State of the Union address that will outline a sweeping vision for American exceptionalism sustained by an economy rooted in “fairness.”
Obama will use his third State of the Union Address to promote what aides describe as a populist economic agenda he’s already spent weeks pitching directly to voters, insisting the ideas deserve bipartisan support. Now, in the face of what he’s framed as Republican obstruction, Obama will draw an election-year line in the sand.

Prez just said GM is back on top as the number one auto maker – but they still have the worst car quality, worst designs, and bloated execution. If that’s number one, I’ll take a lower number.

Obama: your plan sounds great but it will NEVER work. The 1% made their way to the top and if they see everyone else being successful by not doing anything, then they won’t do anything. Then, America will be doing absolutely nothing and expect everything. There will be no inspiration, no motivation, nothing!

The commentary on the live feed is annoying and useless, ie “Essentially making it illegal to drop out of school.” Another multi-second sound bite from the mediea, great, thanks. If it’s not something that is insightful or educational wait until the end please. I am off to find another live feed with less dribble.

It is a shame that people hate this president so bad that just won’t give me a chance no matter what….I want to see the look on all faces of republican haters when he wins again and rules 4 more years to try and clean up their mess. God help him….You go ahead on Obama!….they just cant steal your joy and confidence no matter how hard they try…..You are in Charge and they can all hang if they don’t like it….

After listening to President Obama speaking tonight, his ideas are good but when you have a society that lacks self discipline, self respect, and is treated with kid gloves on… It is about time we get back to some old school ways of doing things. Stop the “political correct” way of handling the situation and men and women need to get tough and get out there and work… stop waiting for your hand to get full if you can’t do a thing to fill it yourself. If you want something go and get it stop waiting on someone to give it to you….. BTW, if those that read this post are being so hard on this President, then maybe you should step up and do something… whether it be Obama or the next guy the issues of today are not going anywhere…. it is up to all of us to get our heads out of the clouds and pull together….

the elephant in the room is some folks are prejudice…get over it and stop spewing so much hatred. When Bush was in office us Democrats were respectful to our Commander and Chief.

whomever the commentators for ABC are tonight, could it hurt to be a little bit focused on reality instead of “Obama Bashing”? I have no great love of the man, but your comments are horrendous. You should be embarrased. If only you could hear how you sound. Get off your high horses and say something INTELLIGENT. PLEASE!!! Thank you.

Thank you for talking about the high school teachers. I’m a junior in high school and I really look up to my teachers and i always feel they should be rewarded more. Like my art teacher that has to buy almost all of our art supplies. I believe teachers shape the world.

He keeps talking about all these “changes” that need to be made. Yeah, right. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING FOR 3 YEARS?? Besides partying, golfing, vacationing, and playing. Obama’s speech is just a collection of words tonight pouring out of his mouth. Trust me, Mr Obama, we won’t fall for your phony words again!

Is this the kind of leadership that we have?
In one hand Obama talks about paying our debt down, than talks about spending more!
says we need to change tax codes, than says we need to give tax breaks to the wealthy businessman. Can you make up your mind? Never heard so much BS in a speech from this office.
(except maybe carter)

So as we guessed it boils down to trying to move this country forward and address the issues..or does America continue this reaganomics, subsidize the wealthy and continue to expand our military as health care and any social programs fade away. The GOP candidates made it clear that we needed to support regime changes in Iran, Cuba and anywhere else they don’t agree with. It’s insanity. If you vote Republican, you will never see the middle class in this country again, ever.

Our President’s speech was again enlightening with positive forward movement towards our country. Those who want to be a critic, have no future to look forward to. My opinion to those, let see you take the position, lets see how Congress balances with you and your ideas/leadership, lets see how you can look into the past/present/future of the people you represent. It’s not an easy job as you want to complain about – what are your plans? How can you motivate make better choices that reflect all American’s equal. Let go of the past, plan and move forward for the future!

WITHOUT A DOUBT, The Best Presidential Speech since JFK Days….. MY PRESIDENT told it like it is and obviously has been listening to Americans that feel the same way. Washington is broken and so is the Government. He hit the nail on the head and said more cooperation and less bickering needs to be done to get America back on its feet.
I know, Republicans and Democrats will both, NO MATTER WHAT ! Will disagree, but the truth be known, and we all know it is the truth, Washington has not worked for THE PEOPLE in years.
Have you ever heard of a Congressman ever experience Foreclosure, Complain about his “FAIR SHARE” of paying taxes. Did you also know how OLD some of those Congressmen were? They are STUCK in their on ideals (not ours) and will not change. Vote in younger, fresher Congressmen…..
Thank you,

Listen, I live in Kentucky which is pretty much Republican. But I don’t think the Republicans care about be because I’m not rich. And we can’t blame the president because congress, both sides, won’t do what’s best for us. I need help, and the only one trying to give me any is blocked because Congress won’t do what’s best for the country. I say, get rid of them all. New Congress members all around.

I realize that the republicans and democrats have their differences, but……….Mr. Obama is still the President of the United States and out of respect the republicans should show a positive interest when the President talks. Sitting down, refusing to stand up – how petty, this isn’t a playground in elementary school with children in clicks. These people represent us, the people who elected them. If you can only follow, and not have your own opinions or scared that you won’t be part of the “click”, maybe you don’t belong there. Show respect!

A clue and a plan to initiate class warfare through the distribution of wealth or lack thereof. Why is it wrong to make money in the greatest country in the world. A President that okays 99 weeks of unemployment has a plan. A President who rules while guns are given to Mexican thugs who shoot our border patrol and innocent people really. How about giving half a billion dollars of money of taxpayers hard earned money to a company that doesn’t even make one single solar panel and conveniently go out of business, cash for clunkers, bailouts for people who don’t pay their mortgages, really four more years of giving, giving, giving and low and behold our country is 16 trillion dollars in debt. How stupid can people be and then complain about racism we’re talking in the red not black or white you dummies.

Does anyone truly believe that this President sat down with pen in hand and wrote this speech? He has speech writers and they did a good job of setting him up for the beginning of his campaign. He never really mentioned Obamacare – his signature bill! Wonder why he backed off patting himself on the back for that one? Words, just words!! It’s just too funny that people make so much out of a campaign speech!

I am of no particular party affiliation, I look and listen to the individual. I believe we can do what the President believes we can do. I just found myself irritated at the Governor of Indiana’s “response”. Talk about campaign speeches, and he’s not even running! I don’t believe he even watched the Address. It appeared he read a pre-written speech and when he looks back at himself, he’s going to apalled that some of his remarks where he thought he was pitching a Republican view, opposite of the President’s, he was ACTUALLY agreeing with what the President had said! I found myself yelling at the T.V.; “did you even watch the Address, better yet, did you Listen?” All the President-bashers out there need to remember, it really doesn’t matter who has the title of President, Congress is the one’s who pass the bills and the laws, and if they can’t stop acting like children, all the best ideas and solutions any President puts forth will never come to be. Where does that leave us?

This was the most dishonest speech I have ever witnessed at his event. He totally ignored the sad state of the union, and went into campaign mode. His speech was riddled with lies, deceit, and hypocrisy.
This President has to go, in November. NO question, at all.

“As President Obama delivered his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, a group of 50 swing voters armed with dial meters recorded strongly favorable reactions to his proposals on taxes, renewable energy, overcoming partisan divisions and defending the middle class, according to the pollsters who supervised the study.”

I think the speech was a very good one. It was inspirational and reminded me of the president I voted for in the first place. I also want to state that under Obama our country has been made safer than I’ve ever felt under any other president. He has elimated numerous terrorists and his tactics work So if for no other reason I’d vote for him on that alone.
I am in favor of him taking another term and he’s far better than anyone else that is trying to run. Besides it took about 20 years to mess up the economy it’s going to take more than four years to fix it! I just hope that people realized the failed policies that got us into this mess in the first place and they don’t keep voting for people that propose the same failed policies. My most fave thing he said was that he would appoint a commission to possibly indite those responsible for the disaster in the first place. My least favorite was the censoring of the internet but that all depends on the law being changed I hope. Because in it’s current state the bill is flawed.
Overall it was a good speech by a good leader. I haven’t been proud of my country for years but I think that faith is returning now. Besides financially I’m far better off then I was four years ago. I’m almost done with my AA degree and just having that will open so many more doors then I’ve ever had before.

Every product that you can buy in this country is government regulated. We support all these government commitees with tax dollars. Obamas jobs bill is to create more government jods, not private sector jobs. Someone please tell me how spending ourself into oblivion is going to get our country back to being productive.

In the last year, close to 2 million private sector jobs were created. The government sector did not gain jobs, it lost 280,000 jobs!
As far as ‘spending ourself into oblivion’, almost $1.25 trillion of the current debt ‘attributed’ to Obama is interest on the debt Bush left. That’s just the interest on the debt Bush left, never mind the war commitments, the destroyed revenues due to the economic collapse on his watch, the unpaid for seniors drug plan, the huge deficits from his tax cuts, and on and on.
Your concern about overspending is at least partially misplaced.
