OTUS News Stock Activity: Romney Hold Value, Santorum Surges

Here's an important graphic heading into tonight's ABC News / Yahoo News / WMUR debate in New Hampshire and the primary there next week. What you see above is this week's movement on the Political Stock Market at OTUSNews.com , which is a real-time representation of the social sentiment about presidential candidates with added input from ABC News political experts.

The stock market is not tied to a specific primary or caucus and shows the general value of the candidates. But the results of the Iowa caucuses were clear this week in the two biggest members on the market. Michele Bachmann dropped out of the race Wednesday after a disappointing caucus finish Tuesday. She was de-listed from the market, where her value was already the lowest of any candidate.

And Rick Santorum has shot up in market value. At the beginning of the week he had a value of just more than 26. Even before an historically close second-place finish (8 votes!) in Iowa, Santorum had leapt past Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, and third place Iowa finisher Ron Paul.

Paul's third place finish in Iowa didn't bump up his prospects at the OTUSnews.com ticker, but it didn't hurt them either. And Mitt Romney's narrow victory didn't give him a huge bump either, although he is still by far the most highly valued Republican on the market, and the only one currently near President Obama.

The market is open special hours today before the debate and tomorrow morning before George Stephanopoulos' return to This Week.

Here's a look at opening and closing values for each candidate and their percentage change between Monday. We'll see how the debate affects their opening Sunday morning. And next week, the market will help assess their value after the New Hampshire primary.
