Based not only upon the Constitution, but also upon court rulings, US citizens have the right to travel between states by foot, personal vehicle, bus, train, boat and plane.

The very simple fact is that some places in the United States of America are not accessible (either at all or in a reasonable time/manner) except by plane.

For people who cannot drive, taking a personal vehicle is not usually a viable option.

Trains are not available or are not a viable option outside of the Midwest or Northeast.

As several people have pointed out, the TSA is invading NYC and DC trains and subways, Tennessee highways, and beyond.

The TSA is starting to question potential flyers before letting them start the "security" gauntlet. Any personal information beyond what we've already allowed to be given up is none of their business (name, birth date, gender, destination). The only information they should be allowed to ask about or know should be related to the safety of that particular flight. Seriously, if the DMV clerk asked for what you're going to do when arrive at your driving destination, would you tell them? No, because they do not need to know.

THE TSA ARE NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT. If they notice something illegal, they should report it, but all of these alleged "good catches" have never been proven to be a danger to flight safety. All they did was help true law enforcement catch a few drug dealers. That's cool, but not their mandate. And it isn't worth the Billions of Dollars wasted on the TSA so far.

If you or I groped someone in this manner we would spend years in jail. The citizens need to put an end to this ridiculous system. Sexual harassment is not an acceptable price to pay to be allowed to board a plane. This type of search does nothing to prevent terrorists from getting on flights. At least the TSA contractors are spending a fortune of taxpayers' money on the whole charade.

For those who say he should have to go through what regular travelers do, you're missing the point. He doesn't think ANY of us should have to do this.

These machines need to go...and the pat-downs are in most cases totally unnecessary, such as this case. To treat a SENATOR like this is absolutely ridiculous. We are losing our rights as free citizens daily, it seems. It makes me seethe in anger to see a small child subjected to a pat-down. What is our country coming to?????????????

> Dear amiller, you're only at war with yourself. Wall Street and NYC provoke the 911 incident.

Where was Rand Paul on September 11, 2001. That day has changed the way we travel through the airlines. If a pat down or a screening device is necessary to make air travel safe then I would have no problem going through that process. Your missing the big picture.

Very interesting, reading all the comments here. FWIW, I know some TSA guys personally, and as pointed out, a good portion are former military members. The ones I know don't like it, but it's a job and they need the work. There's always someone higher up making life miserable b/c the TSA is highly visible and the target of disapproval and loathing. If TSA were officially ruled unconstitutional, it would have been shut down by now. Somehow, their practices haven't been challenged hard enough. Yet. I avoid flying b/c of the pat down and scanner threats. I am pro-freedom and Constitutional protection from impedement of inailenable rights. I agree, the gov't slowly chips away at our freedoms and as we see in so many facets of our lives, what's abnormal or unacceptable, slowly becomes tolerated and then, the normal course of living. I assign no judgment for whatever Rand Paul experienced b/c I wasn't there, and as we all know, the media always spins/distorts the truth. Maybe something good will come of it. That's all I can hope for.

Does he not realize we are at war? Not sure when or if this war will be over but 911 changed things.
Maybe would could special low security flights for folks like Paul. Let the free market decide. (Doubt if they could get a pilot to fly one thought)
