Rick Santorum in 2005: Double Talk on Tort Reform?

A vicious political ad was released today in South Carolina by Ron Paul’s campaign targeting Sen. Rick Santorum.

The ad’s text:  “Don’t be fooled…Rick Santorum,  a record of betrayal….another serial hypocrite who can’t be trusted.”

Those are certainly strong words and they reminded me of a story I had filed more than six years ago… in which I questioned Santorum about his support of tort reform… introducing legislation to limit pain and suffering damages to $250,000 while supporting a lawsuit his wife filed for twice that amount.

Take a look at our “Nightline” story from Nov. 10, 2005:

Democrats and Republican politicians are the same thing. They both are for big government, spending taxpayers money, the industrial war machine, and taking away constitutional rights. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that has been amazingly consistent for thirty years. He is honest and for the people. Thank you for the honest assessment in this article. We haven’t seen that in awhile!

You must be a conservative. Don’t drag the Democrats in this. talk about specific issues. This is a conservative way of avoiding accountability. All people have lied; everyone. All politicians tend to lie more than the average guy (may be I can include used car salesmen and Tv evangelists!). But Conservatives lie more than all other politicians. So if you want accountability you have to start with the biggest liars. Just like they determine championship on a playoff system. You can’t just say, well everyone has scored so everyone must be a champion. No start with the biggest liars and go down the line.

Santorum is not the good guy he claims to be.

On the other hand, Ron Paul is a really nasty person, under that liberal persona.
