First of all i do not believe in the democratic way of politics in any sense what so ever and i am not real happy about how the automakers and the government went about resolving their problems. But when you think about it long and hard you find these facts are sitting on a scale. You have one side that in this "Bailout" the tax payer including those who work for Chrysler and GM lost billions in tax money. But on the other side we have the increase/ stabilization in jobs of those who work and will work for these auto makers. when you look at it from these points it seems to me it was a good investment by keeping people in work and keeping them off the streets. It are these decisions though that still bother me in the terms that every body thinks about themselves and instead of working together for real to fix our problems we drop those problems in the lap of a government who thinks they know whats best for us when truly they think about themselves or just mess things up in the process. I am not saying we should not have helped Chrysler and GM out of that nasty position but have gone at it in a way that was less government controlled. Because this time they just got lucky and Chrysler repaid it's dept. Please don't get me wrong on this because i love Chrysler myself and believe it is a big part of our nations history and has been big part of our country's financial base for years and needs to stay around because of these things.

Funny how Rove was offended at an ad that spoke with optimism about the challenges we face. What did he want Eastwood to say? That it was a bad idea to bail out the auto manufacturers (which is what the GOP wanted)? Bummer, Karl, that this was an example of people actually working together, through out government, to get something good done.

Getting Osama bin Laden, there's another example of people pulling together. Rove hated that. For all their usual bluster on foreign policy, the GOP f**ed up Iraq, failed to stop 9/11, just tried to scare the country, and never caught bin Laden. All the while they were filling the pockets of the top 0.1& while the economy came to a near-catastrophe. All talk -- no action. Or worse, dumb action.

Every single one of those problems tat Obama inherited, he has turned around, despite constant obstruction from the GOP at every turn. The GOP have lost their credibility on cutting taxes for the ricn, and now they're terrified that the public understands that they can't be trusted on foreign policy either. Obama has a record to run on, and the GOP can't decide which candidate they hate the least for 2012. I suppose they can always run on "evolution is wrong" or "no birth control for women" or "cut benefits to the bottom 1%" or "don't you realize Obama is still Black?". Lot of traction they'll get there. Romney will giggle nervously while Obama completely wipes the floor with his flip-flopping B.S. -- that's the best the GOP can hope for; imagine the fun Obama would have with, who Gingrich? Santorum? There will be few surprises in '12, but watching the GOP go into full freakout mode will be like tacky, guilty-pleasure reality TV.

THELOYALOPPOSITION: What's with all the "Hmmm" nonsense. While speaking it's something you do to give yourself a bit of time to organise your thoughts. While writing it's just very, very annoying.

Clint Eastwood is absolutely committed to America. Why do people take a good American message and make it immediately political. He made this message for the American people, to the American people, to stand by the American people.
Take your blinders off, look and listen to his message. It is not political, it is not Democrat it is not Republican...he wants all Americans to get back in the game and if you don't your either stupid, too greedy or don't want America to win.

MR. OBAMA DID NOT SAVE THE U.S. AUTO INDUSTRY! Ford neither asked for nor got government funds, so it is false that Obama saved the U.S. auto industry.

Moreover, if GM and Chrysler had been allowed to file for bankruptcy, as happens every day with inefficiently run companies, the physical plant and brain trust would not have evaporated into thin air. What would have happened is what happens with every bankruptcy: new entrepreneurs take over for pennies on the dollar and produce product with a new cost structure and offer it to customers at a new price level where the industry is sustainable, i.e., produces a profit. The new price point is generally a benefit to the consumer. Who knows, a new entrepreneurial team with a new business model might have efficiently produced those electric vehicle everybody seems to want.

The only thing the GM and Chrysler bailouts did is save a major Democrat constituency at the price of consumers losing out on better products at a more favorable price point.

Incidentally, I seem to remember another Chrysler bailout in the eighties that were suppose to turn the company around. Would anyone like to take me up on a bet that either GM or Chrysler, or both, will be back for more taxpayer money in ten years or less?
