I actually think that a brokeraged convention is almost inevitable with the proportional delegates rule. And THIS might actually be what some higher ups want. You get a candidate that hasn't been forced to move so far to the right to satisfy the religious part of the party. Of course, the Republicans MIGHT end up with a Far Right candidate!

Hey, regardless of your interpretation of what the GOP is doing, and perhaps which it may continue to do right up to convention time, why do you leave the historically correct fact out of the article that Democrates haven't gone through their own raucous times in selecting a presidential candidate? I know who the power structure at ABC is pulling for, but it still could happen.........;the article was interesting, but hardly important............I really dislike "unnamed sources," don't you?

@Plantain...I'm sure any GOP candidate will be vetted better than Obumbles was.

Unfortunately, the establishment is SCARED of Ron Paul and he won't win, but come 2016 I think Rand Paul will make some noise for the libertarian movement. We need something different than the 2 elitist parties that we have...because neither of them give a damn about us.

The PEOPLE already have a NEW Presidential candidate…it is RON PAUL…
Posted by: Ron Paul for President | February 17, 2012, 5:38 pm.

Ummm, I'M one of "the PEOPLE". Ron Paul is a very old whacked out nut job who is running for the White House for the third time. He won't be chosen by his Party as their nominee, he won't run as an Independent - in short, he will NEVER be our president. And as one of "the PEOPLE", I am very happy with that.

Jon Huntsman was excellent because he had been a successful Governor, comes from a family that is in the top dozen philanthropists in the United States, was a wonderful Ambassador to China, as well as fluent in Cantonese which when working with China would have been a major asset. Sadly, the media ignored him preferring the three ring circus act the other candidates were putting on.

Sadly the Republicans have been losers since GWB was President. As long as social issues are more important to the Republican voter, and as long as we continue to get mean, old, do nothing Republicans as the only choice I see the party continuing on its steady and slow dive into an obsolete party. So I see President Obama winning re-election come November. He and his folks have been so smart to let the Republicans eat their own.

And given that GOP voters are prone to jumping from candidate to candidate, it's possible that some some yahoo could jump in late, not be vetted, surge, and win. Pathetic. Such Luddites.
