David is right on. There are more ways to be educated than college, and it's not right for you, it's a big waste of money and time. And there definitely is a liberal agenda on the college campuses nowdays also.

I'm a college student. Barely a college student because of financial ability but a college student nonetheless. The point that Obama is trying to make is that - should you WANT TO - you should be able to go to college. Without having to worry about taking out $10,000 in loans a year on top of financial aid money that you get even with an EFC (estimated family contribution) of ZERO. It has nothing to do with that fact you should go to college/career institutes so you can be better than everyone else. Nor does it facilitate liberal thinking. HAS NO ONE HEARD OF CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN COLLEGES WHERE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE A THEOLOGY CLASS EVERY SEMESTER?? I HAVE.

'President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob!' Seriously? Not that he forget to mention career-based education. But really? You're a snob because you want other to be ABLE to even have the choice to go to college?! I might make a fine and dandy maid or nanny, but if I have the money to keep myself in college than you're darn straight I'm guna do it and that CERTAINLY doesn't make me a snob!

Also, something I learned from "snobby" social psychology class. How hate, elitism, and prejudice occurs on the left AND right sides: "THEY think they're better than you" (college ppl think they're better than working class). "THEY don't care about you" (college ppl don't care about working class ppl) "THEY'RE conspiring against you" (keep them stupid) etc.

Grow a brain people. There's something wrong with both sides. Difference is... whose the best out of all those wrongs?

What an idiot! What a hypocrite! He spouts ignorance and arrogance under his college degree while his children are college students and/or college bound! Perhaps, he believes that he and his family are the only persons worthy and smart enough to earn college degrees! What parent does not dream of their child(ren) attending college or some school of higher education? Even students not wanting to attend 4 year colleges need funding to attend technical schools. For him to think that college is for "snobs" and forces doctrines of anti Christian beliefs upon gullible students, he sure has a lot of explaining to do about he and his children attending college and earning degrees. A vote for this guy is a setback in history!

I'm absolutely fine with Santorum going down this path. The farther he takes this the easier it's going to be for Obama to expose and trounce him in the election.

Thank you Rick Santorum for solidifying the fact that I will never vote for you. EVER!!!! How dare you say that all Americans shouldn't better themselves by going to College. I do not agree with a lot of the Obama Administrations policies or decisions I do agree with the fact that ever American has the Inalienable right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness which includes an education to better the life of them and there descendants. If anyone acts like a hypocrite to there beliefs as an American and the American way of life, you sir set the standard for those type of people buy your comments..

Yes the president is aware that not all people are gifted in the same way, please what is wrong with Vocational training a.k.a career training? Seriously folks that's a part of access to higher education the president is referring to. Get a grip. And it is imperative that most Americans be educated within the STEM fields that is our future and basically where the jobs will be. Basket weaving degree isn't going to cut it.

@ODIN: You claim this is bogus.... "It may sound a little conspiracy theorist, but I think the Republican party wants their constituents to remain uneducated."

It's not bogus at all, although I suspect you accidentally misunderstood the statement. The republican party depends heavily on a certain base of voters or they'd be toast, especially in this election season when they've already alienated a crapton of demographic segments. The base they depend on is a white, lower income, very low- or uneducated base who thrive on the violent and nasty rhetoric. This in no way implies that the entire base is ignorant or uneducated; merely that the ones who are such are a base the republican party cannot afford to lose now. Many of believe there is some truth to the idea that the republican party wants to keep a portion of its base "dumbed down", because it keeps them buying into their trashy, venomous talk and it supplies a good solid bloc of low wage workers. The republicans are always always about profit: low wage workers = more profit for corporations.

You are correct, not everyone is meant to go to college, and Pres. Obama understands that. He also understands how the country has changed dramatically, with so many outsourced jobs, and he's trying to say....anyone that wants a chance to go to college should have that chance, and he's promoting the idea that if you aren't a college-bound student, at least strive for a one year program of some type of training, which should *also* be available to anyone wanting that.

The hypocrisy here is that Santorum is trying to denigrate anyone that *does* want a college education, despite the fact that he has three degrees from PUBLIC universities, and despite the fact that he advocated for the very thing he's trashing now, back in 2006. And he has the balls to call Romney a flip-flopper?

2hundredthousand -"Being an atheist doesn’t been you’ve been brainwashed or are a bad person"--I agree with that, however iIalso see atheism as a religion, a religion or belief in no God. My point is that the colleges and universities are populated with liberal progressive professors who indoctrinate and minimize the diversity of beliefs in the student population in order to promote their own agenda or religion These secular humanists give atheists a bad name. Under the 1st amendment religion is protected from congress, I can take my religion to the public square and so can you. I do take offense when others try to prevent me from practicing my religion. If I want to say a prayer in a public place, that is my right. Obama and these professors wants secular humanism to be the state religion and that is against my 1st amendment rights.
