There are good insights on all sides here, but when folks say that "Bush got us into this mess" or that it was the Republican mentality toward issues like this that is to blame, we must check ourselves. It was a Democrat-controlled Congress that overwhelmingly voted in favor of military involvement in both Iraq and Afghanistan, which President Bush supported. Cut the lies and nonsense to pretend the mess we're in is always someone else's fault. Just like the economic morass we're presently in, we're all to blame (to greater or lesser degrees). Stop blaming others, and let's start talking about solutions!

Note to Mr. Ordnery 1: I agree with the person who said when did an apology become a dirty word? This apology was necessary because we were wrong and this Quoran is their Bible. Would we be happy if someone burned our Bibles...No. Besides we have Americans over there and we want to protect them and by being arrogant only puts them in worse danger. We need to think a bit before we do things especially with this country. President Obama is a thinker and is at this time gathering facts to handle the situation. Even our Generals are telling the soldiers...hold back...we are suppose to be there as friends. I know should any further American deaths happen,.....we will act. Now to Mr. Ordinery...this country is finally paying attention and they are paying attention to what the newly elected from the 2010 elections are doing to our country. they are firing cops, firemen, teachers, killing arbitration, putting emergeny people who can fire a person even if he/she is duly elected by the people, close a school, a business ...all this authority from where? They were not elected...where is the democracy here. I refer to the town of Benton Harbor where they fired the mayor, sheriff, took over the beaches for a golf resort, closed down the radio stations so people could not be made aware of what is going on, closed some schools, business' ...this is where people need to be paying attention. Who are these people and where do they get their authority? This is not the democracy I know. Look to Wisconsin where bills were rammed through in the middle of the night without 24 hr notices by Mr. Walker (who by the way, may be out of a job soon.) Look to Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Indiana...all who are now experiencing "buyer's remorse" for who they elected in 2010. These are the things we need to pay attention to for sure.

Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney has not spoken directly about the apology to Karzai, but vowing no apology is a key line of his stump speech.
“Let me make this very clear. As President of the United States, I will devote myself to an American Century. And I will never, ever apologize for America,” the former Massachusetts governor said in October................Ah,.How about if we accidentally kill someone? What sort of person can't apologize for something they've done wrong.

So much NOISE and DEATHS over words written on paper in the name of a questionable Religion. Get real! We are going back into the Middle Ages! Posted by: David E. | February 24, 2012, 3:23 pm 3:23 pm ….Why are you calling Christianity questionable? I don’t understand. I do agree that too much blood has been spilled in the name of religion. Religion is just another way of separating the us from the them.

JUST HOPE SAID—-”The US is a big country, therefore, we must act like a big country”—-Yes and the best way to act like a big country is to have the backs of those that are in Afghanistan putting their lives on the line doing their duty; not jeopardize their safety by looking weak!!! In either situation the American is always blamed. So where are you really from your loyalty doesn’t seem to lie with America so who are you loyal to?? Posted by: whathappened08 | February 23, 2012, 10:08 pm 10:08 pm
……So, do I understand you correctly….manning up when YOU do something wrong is a sign of weakness, seriously, because my dad taught me that it was a sign of strength that you take personal responsibility for YOUR actions no matter what the other guy did….this is like Alice in Wonderland…the Mad Hatter’s “unbirthday” words have opposite meanings to Republicans it seems. By the way…are you a parent? What do you teach your children about personal responsibility?

.Perhaps the next step should be to invite Muslim clergy to inspect what religious items the military has and give their opinions on what can be destroyed and what could be permitted without insulting Muslim sensitivities. It is their country-they should decide what they will allow, not us.
Posted by: Gobama | February 23, 2012, 9:30 pm 9:30 pm ..... So, are you saying that there are NO Muslims in this country? NO Muslims who are US citizens being insulted....but at the same time the Christian "sensitivities" were insulted by simply requiring a business to provide birth control. Go figure!!!!

Are you aware our attack on Iraq killed tens of thousands of Iraqis? Some estimate hundreds of thousands. What do you think this is – a video game? Posted by: John | February 23, 2012, 9:14 pm 9:14 pm ....John you could not be more correct but I fear you are wasting your time the only lives that count to republicans are those they can identify with or use as a weapon against the president....buy the way have you noticed that they never referr to the president as the president just use insuling names.
