Members of the Nixon White House and administration were charged, tried and convicted of criminal activities. CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES in a Republican White House. Sound familiar? It should. It happened in the Bush Republican White House and the Reagan administration as well.

Jon Corzine hasn’t been charged with anything. You’d do well to think very seriously about the difference in the situations.

moreover, the law simply establishes minimally acceptable standards of societal behavior. have we sunk so low as a society that our estimation of “goodness” amounts to not being a convicted criiminal? does it make me a “good” person that i have not been convicted of a crime? there are all kinds of dispicable people who engage in terrible behavior that is legal. does that mean they are the kind of people we want contributing to and aiding in the direction of presidential candidacies? i can just imagine future ulogies…”he was a fine man, after all, he wasn’t a convicted felon.” absurd.

anne, corzine is not a convict, and i doubt he will go to prison. nixon was never convicted either. i’m sure that, as a good partisan, you have some reason why corzine is a good guy or “not as bad” as the guys on the other side, but that’s just par for the partisan game. to be sure, there are plenty of his ilk on the other side (and likely those who are worse) but it doesn’t change the fact that corzine’s a crook and a dirtbag. what’s the point in defending a guy like him?
