When you here a politician say they are going to take it away it scares people. The president is the first one who ever said anything like that and it scared the living crap out of people.. What no one has said here is that you only paid half of your Social Security. Your employer paid the rest!!! Imagine my predicament owning a painting company with 17 employees. I've paid over a million in SS. I will receive 0. I'd rather pay my employees more money and have it come out of their checks or abandon the system altogether. I am a Democrat but I really hate how my party won't fix this. They lie and say the other party is trying to steal people's money (SS). Acting like children and scaring old people is no way to fix it. I liked the idea of private accounts. It made total sense. We know it's broke, the numbers don't lie. I also think the age should be raised over the next 20 years. I also know a robust economy where people make more money would fix this. I think I am turning into a libertarian because the Clinton Kennedy Dems I grew up on are gone and have been replaced with people that scare people into voting for them instead of fixing things. This whole healthcare thing is a prime example of what the next big bankrupt program is going to be. 72,000 pages!!!! Here I can write one real easy. Anyone with a pre existing illness must be covered and all insurance companies have to pay into this pool whether they policies with you or not. There it's done. SS Employers no longer have to pay half of their employee's SS. Raise the age and if you aren't of that age you get nothing! Fixed If you aren't able to work we need a new program that helps those people. SS was never meant to supplement 30 year olds hurt in a car accident. What people fail to realize is my 99 year old grandfather lived without any of this crap and planned accordingly. I am now doing the same. I don't plan on collecting one penny because I know how to add. This last bit is to the people that think immigrants aren't sucking us dry. If you work for a day you are eligible! It may pay less but you will have medicare/medicaid as well. Since you will be below the poverty line you will receive food stamps and housing assistance. Make it a permanent deduction and there will be enough money to keep on funding SS. You would just have to make sure that it becomes off limits to the republicans.
