Did anybody notice that the current congress would not agree to give themselves a cut in thier pensions? They only have to pay 0.08 % into their pension. They did raise that amount for newcomers beginning in 2013 which will be 3% and they all get to retire in thier 50′s. Why is it that we have to pay for all of thier retirement? Why is it that they are too good to share in the sacrifice whenever they are the reason we are in this mess? And I am sick and tired of hearing that the SS trust fund wasn’t intended for us to retire on? If that is true, then they have been robbing us by lies. If it wasn’t meant for me to retire on, then just give me back all I have paid in to date and then stop taken it out of my checks.

One little problem with all these “volunteer” jobs, G. People who would be doing it for pay (as in employed during a time of high unemployment) lose those jobs if employers think they can get someone to do it for free as a volunteer. Let’s wait till the unemployment rate, which has been badly undercalculated for the past several presidents, goes down before we start asking people to volunteer.

Disgusted: You better check your facts, Social Security is in the general fund, it is not in some nice lock box somewhere. They have borrowed and used these funds for years.

Simple fix-stop giving our money to foreign countries-we can use a barter system-all the people on social security who are able to should volunteer at the local communities to help teach children to read or to teach them other lessons.Also the drug companies should cut the prices for drugs for everyone-

I agree – we can help the system dfo better – BUT FIRST, Congress has to stop taking any surplus that Social Security has to use for whatever pork they choose at the time. CLOSE THAT
LEAKY BUCKET FIRST!! I think you will find less need for cutbacks if what goes in, only comes out for Senior’s Social Security checks.

This is not a benefit, or an entitlement, we paid into this system for most of our lives and it is money that is owed to us by Uncle Sam. We continue to pay into the system and the government keeps raiding the system by high paid employees and other tactics. If a bank did this to us they would be prosecuted but Uncle Sam can do what it wants until the people revolt and do what many other countries are doing and rid ourselves of these dishonest people who are greedy for power. Wake up people!

Senior citizens are all for helping out, as soon as all government employees quit getting pensions(excluding the military and the president) pay into SS and Medicare. The senators and representative change the law ( which THEY voted for not the american taxpayer) about their pensions and pay into SS and Medicare and wait like everyone till the eligible to receive it. But I don’t believe its got a chance in H….. to get that done, they are out for one thing and one thing only how to get FREE money and get rich.
