So if oBama tossed all the intel collected to that point, shut down Gitmo like he promised, gave KSM bubble baths and massages every day, no more enhanced interrogation, killed random people with drones instead of capture and collection of intel, etc…. how would he have found out where Bin Laden was?

If you are correct, Bush had all the intel he needed, but didn’t do it. Obama, on the other hand, just strolled into office and gave the order. The difference, I guess, is that one wanted to do it and the other one didn’t worry much about it.

WOW! That’s a pretty scathing indictment of the Bush presidency right there.

I don’t think it’s true, by the way. I think if Bush had the intel, he would have done it. But I do think that Republicans need to stop making stuff up all the time just because they hate Obama. You wind up saying things that have absurd implications. Not that the rank and file is going to care one way or another…. but everyone else does.

So you have the date when Panetta reconstituted the CIA section you say that Bush disbanded. Which clues did Panetta and the CIA use from that moment forward, or did they rely on intelligence gathered by the Bush administration. Hmmmm?

The Bush administration discontinued the CIA bin Laden section in 2006.

After taking office in 2009, Obama directed Panetta to make Osama bin Laden the number one target of their actions against al Qaeda. As the President committed during his election campaign, once bin Laden was located, he was taken out by a surgical strike into Pakistan at the President’s order.

Mission Accomplished.

The Bush administration discontinued the CIA bin Laden section in 2006, about the same time Bush started to say catching bin Laden was not important to him.

@TORK: He said Afghanistan was the “good war”… and he’s LOST IT. How in the world you can spin that as “doing what he said he would do” is beyond me. He is signing a surrender/withdrawl agreement today… we’ll leave, and the Taliban will take control again and begin killing and oppressing women and gays. I seemed to have missed Obama pledging to do that. Now Bush “did what he said he would do”. He said he was going to remove Saddam, and turn Iraq from a terror nexxus, into a partner in the War on Terror. And considering that Saddam was removed, and the only reason we found Bin Laden was from info from Iraq – it would seem that Bush did exactly what he said he would. Somehow I doubt you’ll be as charitable, though. And before you spout the usual “he didn’t find wmds”… let me stop you there – the documents we captured show Saddam had active bio and chem programs, but had mothballed his nuke program in favor of buying off the shelf from nkorea. Why does that give you comfort?
