To me this is not a politics thing it is a math thing... we the people need to decide and fund services we are willing to pay for... ie a balanced budget... and if we can not pay for something that a politician promised so be it... the math is what governs not the lies and mathematically impossible promises of politicians who were buying votes... the public employees need to be paid but they don't need to be living off the fat of the land...

This is not right to do this to folks who are already retired. They worked faithfully under an agreement just like any other worker. They deserve the benefits that were agreed upon. Even those current employees grandfathered in under the current system should not be affected by this. How outraged would folks in the private sector be if this was done to them? The new pension rules should only apply to those hired after it has gone into effect. I'm not sure how it could be legal anyway unless there's a loophole for the states in the pension contracts.

You are wasting your breath trying to stand up to unions on this website. I have a brother that is big on unions and I just keep my mouth shut after I badmouthed them one time. Boy, talk about a touchy subject!!!!!
Just do your talking at the polls this November and vote conservative all the way. Then try to keep a straight face around them after the elections.

So, do these pension reforms affect career politicians in the legislatures, or are they exempted? It would be nice to see the law makers pass laws that curb the porky perks they enjoy.

And you must love your job as a ditto head. You people can not see past the noses on your face. Are you old enough to remember what it was like before unions and before social safety net? Seriously, we are the richest nation on earth but yet 1/4 of our children live in poverty. Our infrastructure is collapsing. Our roads and bridges, our sewage systems are falling apart but yet corporations sit on trillions of dollars and corporations like GE or EXXON not only pay 0 in Federal tax but they get millions in tax credits. The 1% in this country control 40% of the wealth but they pay about 15%, if anything, on THEIR taxes. There is a enormous amount of money in this country but it has been distributed to the 1% because they can pay off the politicians. Speaking of our politicians...how do you feel about their pensions and benefits. John Bonehead had the House working only every other week since he got in control but they get paid well over $100,000 along with a cadillac health care plan and being able to retire at full pay after only 8 years. OH ya...what do you think about politicians going to work for corporations who had contributed millions to their campaigns. Do you really think we get the truth from either party when they are bought and sold? I know this is a lot and I am rambeling but what is going on in this country is very upsetting to me. It just appears to me that there are people who would rather give in and pull everyone else down to their levels instead of fighting against the the wealthy who are never satisfied with what they have...they just want more and more. Sorry if I have offended you it is not intentional just venting...

Get a grip Moby. Those of us in the private sector have had it with watching government employees sleep through their 9 to 5 with breaks while we work 10 to 12 hours a day in a small business to support the under worked over paid government employees. Eliminating bloated pensions may hurt in the short term, but in the long term it will give the private sector (us middle class small business owners) more revenue to work with, besides cutting the red tape government employees must make up to keep their worthless jobs. We are wakeing up. That mat be your problem. Posted by: HUH? | June 6, 2012, 3:37 pm 3:37 pm ___________ What a fool you are...There was a time when the only way to attract people to work in government jobs was to match the pay and benefits of the private sector. Over the past 30 years the Republican Taliban and the wealthy in the country have been poisoning the minds of the people in this country to vote against their best interest. Corporations are making record profits they are sitting on Trillions of $ corporate bonuses are at record levels we pay athletes millions per year but yet we need to attack government workers. You seem very angry over your financial situation so your answer is to drag everyone else into the gutter with you so that the Koch brothers or the Waltons can make even more. We have allowed corporations to destroy our small business and seize control of our government. The decline in the middle class income is a direct correlation with the decline in union membership. The new deity in this country is money...all must bow at the alter of wealth and the wealthy. How many wealthy people do you see going to jail or being made to suffer the consequences of their actions...not when you have money to buy your way out of it. The wealthy are like terrorists..they cause havic and threaten more if they do not get what they want...lower taxes and less regulations - they miss the rivers being set on fire. It appears you long to be a 3rd world country..that makes me very sad.

I love the argument that "misery loves company". Instead of buying into the lie that the solution is to drag the entire middle class down so the rich get more, perhaps we should be looking for ways to build the entire middle class up. Eliminating pensions for the public sector will hurt the economy just like cutting wages of the private sector hurt the economy. If you keep making the middle class poorer, the economy will look like a Nigeria in a few years. Is it any wonder the repub want to shred the safety net too. Wake up!!
